Transformers: Dark Of The Moon Hasbro Marketing Art - Cybertron

Back in the “pre-Dark of the Moon days” Transformers fans with good eyes spotted something above the skies of Chicago on a TV Spot. Many speculated it being the Planet Cybertron. Sure enough, at the Power Of The Primes campaign by Wal*mart a new image confirmed the theory.

Artist Ken Christiansen revealed today via his blog the entire image of Transformers 3 Cybertron used by Hasbro for promotional purposes.

"Not totally accurate with how it appeared in the film - but it was for Hasbro's toy marketing, and I think it works as a pretty cool toy version of movie Cybertron."

“This is how it appeared in stores, (I only ever saw it in Walmarts) cropped with about only 1/3 of the full image showing. Below is the full version.”

I don't like that rendition of Cybertron. It looks to clean and perfect. However if they were to ever use vector sigma in the live action movie verse, I think that would be a good model/look for it.
VaderPrime1
Watermark right on top and small dimensions just dropped my intrest 100%.
Bern
Not sure why they didn't even TRY to draw a parallel with the War For Cybertron / TF Prime look.

And the fact that Cybertron's look had no continuity from movie to movie also bugged me. The whole honeycomb-hexagonal framework around the planet was just weird and "off".

But then again, in ROTF Jetfire was an old Scottish guy and definitely not red & white. Amongst a million other things that were "off" about the movies. So..... anything goes?

Eric
Wow...that looks terrible.
Griffin73
That's not Cybertron, that's a robot bee hive.

Bay-ism redesign = LAME!
Kaijumaster
doesn't really catch the eye from "orbit" but the "on the ground" look we got at the start of DOTM made it look pretty cool.
Stygian360
I never bought into the concept of Cybertron as a series of geodesic shapes interlocked and stacked on one another, especially when you consider many parts of the planet would have been built up over time by separate factions, destroyed in various wars, and would have served a myriad of purposes- you know like most cities. No, I'm gonna go old school and say that the Cybertron we see in the opening sequences of the G1 toon is pretty damn close to perfect. The geodesic look may be more clean, 'computery', and movie-like, but it looks nothing like the version of Cybertron I feel approaches true reality.

Now this kind of redo makes more sense. If you consider that Jetfire and Starscream were once ally scientists working together it stands to reason that hey may have gone Decepticon when his buddy did and may have spent time in that faction. Also, Jetfire spends the first 15 min of his G1 reveal episode unwittingly fighting against the Autobots, so further evidence of possible faction swapping. I won't touch very much on the Scottish thing as I'm not sure where that came from other than contrast for its own sake, but the faction swapping and change of character model actual made quite a bit of sense to me.

Put a bunch of 8 yr. old kids together with some crayons and you'd get a more innovative designs.

It blows!
tfprime32
i dont care! i want a toy of cybertron that transformers into primus!
The Bucket Kitten
That doesn't look that good, it doesn't even look like a planet, IMO.
baggzey23
Im guessing the planet is underneath this layer which is meant to protect it
knightmare6
I think it could work, if it was only a bit more damaged. As someone said, through hundreds of years of wars those comb-like surface structures wouldn't all be intact.
General Tekno
I never minded movieverse Cybertron, if only because towers that are visible from orbit never made much sense to me.

The whole honeycomb layout meanwhile was pretty cool, and reminds me somewhat of my own stuff where I have a grid layout carved out onto a planet surface.
Blitz.
I agree with the idea that maybe this is too perfect and I also find it hard to belive cities could be contained within. Maybe if transformers were some sort of hive mind I could belive they would make such a perfect structure over the years but given the "human" nature of transformers I dont see this being possible. UNLESS the whole ROTF Primes thing results in every planet they visit looking like this
TylerMirage
I like the design, and it's nice to see what a pristine movieverse Cybertron looks like, but I agree that it would look better if it was damaged; the honeycomb structures broken and collapsing, massive holes in the surface, dark spots, craters, etc., like in DotM.

That's crazy talk, man...it'll NEVER happen.

Surge
Is the whole honeycomb thing supposed to be a force field of sorts?

Meh.

WFC/FOC has the ideal Cybertron IMO.

No, it's simply the outer structure of the planet. Sort of like architecture in the "upper atmosphere" as compared to the "ground" of the planet. Think skyscrapers with walkways when compared to the city streets.
Kaymac
I never really liked this design too much. It's an interesting concept for a planet, just not Cybertron. It doesn't look nearly damaged enough, or really like much of a "planet". Simply break up the honeycomb a little bit so there are continents and it would be much better.
Kylehudson14
That looks horrible. But I would like to see it AFTER the implosion
Nerdicon
I always imagined that the honeycomb was a mechanical network built around the real planet. And that the "real" cybertron was more like that planet shown in the first movie.
The Madness
I think it's an interesting concept, and it does give off a vibe of being a series of Hoberman sphere type objects layered like an onion.
Potential solid atmospheric layer boundaries are also a fascinating concept in a manufactured planet too.
But the uniformity, as other have mentioned, reduces any 'personality' in the profile.

It comes across as a crystal-like formation; strong and efficient, but not quite chaotic enough to indicate the ravaged, war scarred metropolis many have come to expect.
Autovolt 127
That ain't no Primus that's for sure,
Deonasis
Pretty shitty. See Anemis's custom for the real deal.
Noideaforaname
I like the design, but not as a Cybertron destroyed by generations of war.
Hot Shot.
A hive planet for Bay's insect-inspired transformers.

Does anyone still feel like calling them robots?

He's a Bay-fanboy. He probably wants a Cyber-honeycomb that turns into a six-limbed humanoid with mandibles and twelve eyes.

Yes.

Next question?
EnerJohn
Well are yous surprised?? In all the movies, Cybertron was a dull grey. Most of the robots a dull grey. The ships, guns, everything dull ass grey. The movies designs have become so uncreative it's not fun anymore. This Cybertron looks stupid, boring, just no imagination. And they gotta do something about all the Cons being sharp toothed poo brains. The Cons don't look like they come from the same planet as the Bots.
tigerhawk16
that is not cybertron that is a turd.
GAUGE0001
reminds me of...

Wait, on second thought, even the Borg Sphere would make a better Cybertron.

THAT would make a much better looking Cybertron...not a fan of the beehive concept. *shrugs*

Probably more likely, the Insecticons built it.
WTDylio
Well I think it looks pretty cool!!

........I'll show myself out..............but seriously, I do like this design, but like some others, I think that the "honeycomb" structure was just something built to protect the actual planet

They aren't just robots. They are robotic organisms.

But yes. Yes I do.
Grimwing
It kind of reminds me of Gigantian. Partially because of how flawless it is and the layers over endless layers of construction.

Yes maybe its to pristine for cybertron. But considering its for retailer display artwork. I think that does Nail the Sharp and New Evolution Vibe that sells the latest waves of Transformers Toys.

Though a ruined cybertron. contrasted by bleeding edge robots. Is what the fandom is getting with fall of cybertron anyway.
ErbFan28
I never it looked bad, but I like other designs better. It is quite interesting, though

Bumblebee owns cybertron. Should've guessed it in the first place.

Some fans really need to take a closer look at what they eat if their crap looks like half of the things they say it does, or their vomit is any of the shades they say toys are colored in.
grimlock1972
meh, don't like it . I desire a more G1 style Cybertron.
