The nominations for the 13th annual Visual Effects Awards have been announced, and Transformers: Age of Extinction is among the nominations. Age of Extinction has been nominated for an award for “Outstanding Models in any Motion Media Project” for Lockdown’s impressive spacecraft, the Knightship. It is a nomination well deserved, as the Knightship stood out in the movie as an impressive and utterly alien ship, both inside and out.
You can check out the rest of the nominations over at ComingSoon.net.

Doubt it'll win, although Lockdown and the ship did have the best visuals in the film by far.
I think you deserve the award for "I can't decide whether or not I love or hate the movies with a passion." Confuses the heck outta me.

The effects were good, I just feel like the Galvatron scene on the highway, and those cube transformations weren't very impressive.
Yeah, that's what was missing mostly in this movie now that I think about it. If only Michael Bay kept the serious tone throughout the whole movie, given us more robot screen time and proper dialogue on the Dinobots we could have ourselves a winner.
Whenever we have a transfomer on screen it never lasts long enough. The designs on the robots are spectacular but without much exposure it's hard to appreciate them if we got humans taking the spotlight.

It's not gonna win. If anything Interstellar's gonna take that Cake.
Still, nice to know TF4 did good at something.
Beastwarsfan95
Yes, none of the characters moved with any mass, the didn't blend into the environment like before. Heck, at times I thought they would just float into space.
Crainy
I would be ok with Age of Extinction not beeing nominated for best Visual Effects in a visual effects driven movie, seeing how AOE´s CGI isnt as outstanding as in the other three movies… except that The Hobbit and Maleficent is also nominated, which by no means had better CGI.
Jerrymiru
The movie was not great IMHO and the effects were pretty bad. But I'm glad that they state WHY and for WHAT that nominate for. The ship was pretty cool. And him walking from it on the highway was a pretty good scene.
Will it will though…. I think it won't. But whatever does better be really good.
Galvatross
So if someone thinks the effects were actually good then they're not using their eyes? Sorry, but I think I can use my own eyes and brain, and I saw TF 07 right before I saw AOE, and in my opinion AOE looked much better. If you thought the previous movies looked better that's fair enough, but I would disagree. I realize not new every design is going to be a hit with everyone, but not everyone has the same tastes and opinions. Sure, there are things like the Stupid Drones that are goofy looking, and the KSI transformations are not for everyone. However, in my opinion the designs are what have really changed. The Decepticons are often more brightly colored than in previous films, and Galvatron is shinier and not as battered as Megatron's old body was. The Autobots are also more distinct individually, and even the Dinobots have different metallic tints from each other, not to mention that their dinosaur modes are very different. Personally, I like the new changes. While I never had any problems, many fans would often complain that in the previous films the robots were too hard to tell apart, and the new changes make it easier for the audience to distinguish the robots from each other for the most part, and that's a good thing.
Anyways, if there is a design in the film that deserves recognition, it's the Knightship. It was like an alien house of horrors within the Transformers universe.

Guys, I love Transformers as much as the next guy on these forums and in face really like the Bayverse designs but AoE had the absolute worse CGI of all three.
Is that so hard to believe your own eyes? It looks like almost as if I were watching a cartoon/movie hybrid ala Who Framed Roger Rabbit.
Dark Skull
I thought the apes actually looked a lot better than some of the TFs in AOE. Especially in the way they were animated. And I hate to say that too. It almost feels like they nominated AOE just so that it wasn't left out. If it wins any of the two categories it was nominated for, I'd be surprised.
SpinalCord
The talking apes looked better. This shouldn’t win
MTME
ash I thought that too
Lockdown looked so smooth that I really thought Lockdown might have been motion captured
Ash from Carolina
I guess what stood out to me is the number of visual awards that is was not nominated for.
Moy
Oh don't worry, they'll take the victory.
Prime Jetscream
I hope it wins, because the films as a whole deserve it, but this definitely wasn't the best in terms of CGI. Although I remember being shocked at the amazing CGI in one shot of Optimus' face, I also remember terrible CGI when Lockdown calls his ship down to pick up Optimus.
Sideways77
It seemed like anything Lockdown and Galvatron had its time taken on. Lockdown was beautiful in that movie.
Crosshairs and Brains looked too… shiny?
tfcrafter
That is literally so false. I had to check some websites to see if the whole movie WAS made with stop-motion. I've seen PLENTY of brickfilms, and the Lego Movie looked dead-on to real stop motion, even putting in details like brick-built flames and smoke.
Back on topic though, Age of Extinction did have some decent visual effects, but I agree with the others, it's not nearly as good as the previous TF installments. It seemed kind of rushed.
kaijuguy19
I'd say the Knightship is impressive in it's own right since it evokes a gothic styled building with an knight armoury yet with an otherworldly spin to it. If that doesn't sound awesome I don't know what does.
Disagree with you on that fully since when I first saw the trailers for the movie I thought it was actually full stop motion that alone is amazing.
Sideways77
It did a great job, I don't know what movie you saw.
Beastwarsfan95
the credits were, and the movie tried (and failed) to mimic stop motion.
