Transformers 4 to film using Palm-Sized Novo Camera

Hollywood Reporter has some news on the filming of Transformers 4 - though not the kind you'd think! According to the article on Hollywood Reporter, parts of Transformers 4 will be filmed using Radiant Image's palm-sized Novo camera, which weighs in at just 3.2 ounces. The article linked above has some additional technical information on the camera and its capabilities - it's a far cry from the traditional depiction of large, stand mounted Hollywood cameras, although it can get closer to the action of a scene by virtue of its smaller size and lighter build.

Bay will be using this to shoot parts of the movie? It's palm-sized and weighs 3.2 ounces?

Mm-hmm. ShakyCam much?

First thing I thought of based on the thread title was Bayformers Reflector.

Man I would love to see Reflector in any new fiction. The idea for him is brilliant. Really helps sell the robots in disguise angle.

My thoughts exactly.

... although, it will allow them to get closer to the action, with helmet cams, cameras inside and underneath vehicles.

Hopefully they have the sense to use it judiciously, and include only the most spectacular footage.

"Ohai Bayverse Reflector" was my original joke. (Before I read the article and thought the camera was actually going to be product placement IN the movie.)

The first thing I thought of was more shaky cam.
tonyformer
I could see this as reflector but when by uses it to film, that filming becomes the world through he optics of reflector. That would be cool.
Leather Elbows
Bay will have a military soldier hold it in his hand and run as fast as he can without even aiming it.
crazyjeffy
I'm hoping that it'll be used as an optic for one of the cybertronians. That'd be neatish.

Pffftttt-Hah!

Lookit that little thing! It's fukken TINY. HAH.

That'll do it.
Feralstorm
I'm imagining one of those handheld cameras with a huge steadycam gyro weight attached now.
AutobotMaster44
Holy crap that's tiny! I just hope that the movie isn't entirely filmed the way "Cloverfield" was, if I am correct about that camera being mounted somewhere on the actors' body. That movie made me more than just sick to my stomach.

The first thing I thought of was... Who the hell cares? Company making the camera paid big bucks to get their product used.

As for Reflector, a nifty idea, but highly unlikely. He would have to serve some purpose in the movie just for that idea to work.

Shaky-Cam. Yes, there will be lots of it...

...We got a lot of that in previous films, but more likely in similar fashion to other films using that style...

Cloverfield and Blair Witch I believe also did that, both were garbage and nothing more that a visual puke-fest. I think the camera would be best served from the human's perspective during major scenes involving the TFs.
G1DeadEnd
Bay'll be able to go through tiny openings with this camera, like in his signature 360 degree shots (remember the shootout in Bad Boys II., where the view travels through doors, and windows?).
[Wing_Saber-X]
eh, cool I guess?

Who knows, maybe we'll get exclusive images of what brand of toilet paper is being used on set. Wouldn't that be thrilling?
Dogimus Prime
I'm seriously doubting everyone's "shaky cam" thoughts. Who's to say it won't be mounted on something for stability? I'm gonna take a shot in the dark here & say 90% of the viewers won't have a clue what kind of camera is being used on any given scene.

-__- This is actually some interesting news about how certain shots could be filmed using such a small camera.

And I hear it's Charmin by the way. 2 ply, with that aloe lotion stuff.
Ribieconvoy
As long as the quality's up to par for modern filming standards, they could use whatever camera will get the job done. I just hope they don't blatantly force in scenes just to take advantage of the camera's small size though.
GAUGE
It's nice to see bay's movies continue to be shot with small cams. that's about the quality of his movies these days. lol
RedAlert Rescue
I was thinking he'd use it to shoot down some woman's blouse.

SCENE 47: Running away from Decepticons.
ACTION: Female lead runs away from Decepticons. - [Novo will be strapped to chin. Facing down.]
Kantus Prime
This is dripping wet with "shaky unwatchable ation scenes" all over it. Why does Baynus need this?

This is more or less what I expect to. Either that, or strapped to her thigh facing up...
Stepper
Instead of the usual traditional large, stand mounted Hollywood cameras,it is just Palm sized, sure make those whom are carrying them much easier job.
Gingerchris
At last a camera small enough for Bay to just load into a cannon and fire off through a scene to film it.

Bay: "Wow! It's so much steadier than my usual shots!"

It's pretty cool, I guess. Gives more options for filming.

Bay has two of them, one each taped to the toes of his shoes for when he stands next to women in skirts.
llamatron
strap it to a paint stirrer and we're good to go!
figsdad
How can you film it with cam that small and still film in 3D.?

I know you can edit it later on to add 3D but i thought BAY wanted to film the whole film with 3D CAMS.?

Maybe he'll strap two side-by-side.
PrimusVsUnicron

You can rig a bunch of them in a curved row and fire them off sequentially so you get a "supersense" / The Matrix like effect I suppose. Might work for a car beauty pass or some fetishistic photography of some actress Bay wants to letch over.

I can see how they could use it to shoot up too like in the Sam goes to robot heaven & Mikaela drops the F bomb scene a small camera would make sense in that sort of situation.
Epsilon
Whut? Why?

So....is this Bay taking his product endorsements to the next level? Instead of just placing them in the movie as advertisement, now he's actually using them to make his movies? Is Bay being cheap?
