Transformers 4 to Film in Chicago?

Not exactly. Michael Bay said that TF4 takes place 4 years after DOTM. And if indeed Mark is looking for a house there then the shoot will be pretty long.

I actully don't mind if they return to Chicago, the location for the final battle for DOTM was one of the few things I felt Micheal Bay did right, I felt like it was the perfect place for them to fight, plus all the damage and desturction and ships in the air helped with it, although I wish they did somewhere new, I won't mind if they return.

City battles are awesome, so I'm good with this.

I have to agree I won't mind having TF4 in another city.

Chicago is alright but I'm sure they're other US cities that won't mind the publicity.

I'm guessing they'll have a recap at the start of the film.

They will proabably film there, but its not gonna be like a whole month of filming with big scenes. Proabably just little areas and the scenes will proably be a dead Decepticon coming back alive.

Maybe they're doing flashbacks of the Chicago battle from the perspective of the new characters. There were probably many little stories of survival going on besides just the fights we saw highlighted in DotM. The new characters could've been there all along, getting involved in different ways that then inform their story in TF4.

Only if there happens to be a Chicago in California. Otherwise, don't hold your breath...

That would be pretty awesome. We didn't see how the Autobots were taken hostage, - we didn't see much of Soundwave at all, and I reckon Welker would be up for Soundwave's or Shockwave's voice again.
Or, as you said, new characters - more likely to be protoforms at that point, some of which must have escaped. There's no way in hell all of the Cons were killed.

I was thinking more of the new human characters. That Wahlberg's character might've been living in the city when the Decepticons attacked it. Since you've mentioned protoforms though, maybe he somehow ends up with a protoform and raises it as his own child when it tries to mimic a human baby while laying helpless in the rubble (perhaps his real child got killed in the attack). Would be a freaky twist if his teenaged daughter we've been following the whole movie is revealed later to actually be a Transformer Pretender. And she might not even know it because maybe the protoform had a damaged head from the city attack and forgot it was a Cybertronian. She's compelled to seek out Transformers even though her 'father' is always trying to dissuade her and that's how she eventually gets involved in the TF war.

It would certainly get around complaints of TF never being the main characters in their own movie and humans getting all the screentime. In this instance the main human character IS a Transformer.

Some flashbacks would make sense - probably what happened the night of the massacre, memories held by Wahlberg's character or something - that sort of thing wouldn't fade away with time.

Or maybe just a memorial scene to pay tribute to those humans who lost their lives in the war. Something like that.

So basically live-action version of Sari?

TFA Sari transplanted into Bayverse would be kinda neat, depending on how they execute the idea. Would give a pretty darn good reason for the main human character to be the supposed female teen in TF4 and to involve her in the Cybertronian war. That and I never liked how they just introduced Pretender Alice in ROTF and then we never hear about what was the deal with her (a Con masquerading as a human) ever again.

Soundwave I hope returns in some form. Maybe he backed up his consciousness in that orbitting satellite he hacked into back in ROTF, or perhaps another (unseen) minion (like Ratbat) that survived the battle of Chicago.

I hope if they film there it'll last through June. I was planning on maybe taking a trip up to Chicago this summer. Although I wish they'd have the battle in Miami. It's closer lol.

I agree! It would make sense, but when does the club do anything that does! Botcon a couple weeks before SDCC, retarded!

The "Hasbro Script" as Bay called it, had a few scenes in Chicago.

This is an amazing city, will be one more reason to go there.

Hopefully it'll just be showing the aftermath of DOTM and not the movie fully taking place in Chicago.

Although I think it would be interesting to see the citizens and government coping with the fallout of the battle in Chicago.

I have a feeling that'll be one of the main building blocks of the movie. Kind of like the aftermath scenes in The Avengers, but instead of 30 seconds, more like a good first quarter/half of the movie.

I like how it book ends....or well book continues (in this case). As it ended in Chicago back in Chicago.

I actually think this is a good idea since the movies rarely carry over baggage from one film to the next. 4 years later in a rebuilding Chicago in a world where it's common knowledge that there's an alien race of sentinent robot beings hiding out on the planet.

If they do it right, you could go with anti-transformer sentiment, cons making deals with other countries, rebuilding Chicago (which the Autobots will probably have to take some heat for even tho' they saved it and the planet) among other things.

I'd like to see if they play up Optimus having a heavy heart over all of the destruction DotM caused as there's a chance to show some feeling and consequences over it.

Not to mention I imagine the cons and more than a few Autobots (much like how in TF: Prime) aren't exactly happy with OPtimus destroying half of Cybertron.

Lots of angles to play with. Will they is the question.

I'm honestly leaning towards "they will" due to Kruger coming back to write.

*EDit* I say "they will" due to Orci and Kurtzman not being around again and so the tone will probably be closer to DotM and maybe 07.

Maybe after all the damage that Chicago received in DOTM it's going to take 4 years to clean up the mess! My wife and daughters were there in August but they said you couldn't tell the city was destroyed!

can we just get a story w/ some continuity from the other film. The idea of Walhberg being a survivor from chicago sounds fantastic to me.

XD I am going to be following the news both on here and here in good old Chicago. If this is true you know where I will be guys If this is true and if its anything like the last time this is going to be HUGE!!!!!

I'm ok if it's only for a few scenes. Anything more than that would make it repetitive and too much like DOTM.

That would be neat. I live in the area, near Wisconsin, so going to see the movie shoot again would be epic! I already went once, during the filming for DOTM, but there was a malfunction with the explosive equipment during that time, so I never got to see the results. Plus, I had to leave with my family anyway. Got there by train, so yeah...hate taking the train...

It's not a reboot, but it's taking place 4 yrs after Chicago. I'm confused!

Maybe the Autobots are still there helping rebuild Chicago.....

I think Bay & Co. enjoyed filming there b4, he said the city was very agreeable to his schedule, blah, blah.

So, I don't see it as a bad thing, gotta bring in much needed revenue for the city.

Chicago will be awash with sci-fi characters heating up the summer scene when three big-budget fantasy films with marquee name actors and an army of crews start shooting here April through October.

The biggest film of the futuristic trio is director Michael Bay’s “Transformers 4,” which is expected to return in June to the city the Decepticons had turned into rubble four years earlier.

Neither the production schedule nor cast has been completed, although Chicago location scouts have been hired and the L.A. production staff is expected to land here en masse in June and reportedly will shoot from July through October.

Executive producer/star Mark Wahlberg said he’ll be hunting for a house rental for four months, which suggests the production will be enjoying its entire summer here.

In earlier interviews, Bay promised that while “Transformers 4” would have “the same lineage, it’s going in a full, new, different direction” with a new cast and a new design that will feel natural as it moves on.

That might explain why Wahlberg (co-executive producer with Steven Spielberg on the movie) and Jack Reynor are the only two signed actors announced to date. There’s internet chatter, however, about Josh Duhamel returning to reprise his character.

“Transformers 4’s” budget is also subject to speculation, but since 2009’s “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” that filmed here had an estimated $200 million budget (and earned $836 million worldwide), the budget for the new film in the franchise should be comparable.

The feature kicking off Chicago’s sci-fi summer is “Divergent,” based on Veronica Roth’s young adult novel set in a dystopian future. Budgeted at $40 million and directed by Neil Burger, it is slated to film from April 9 through June 30.

Stars announced thus far are Shailene Woodley and Kate Winslet. It has a May, 2014 release date.

Overlapping production of “Divergent” and “Transformers 4” is the Wachowskis’ “Jupiter Ascending.” Filming reportedly starts June 24 for four-to-five weeks. Andy and Lana Wachowski are co-directors of the screenplay written by Lana.

Its formidable cast includes Mila Kunis, Channing Tatum, Eddie Redmayne, Sean Bean and Douglas Booth,

Local 476’s Mark Hogan estimates each feature will require 150 to 200 crew members.

“Divergent” is headquartering at Cinespace studios, along with current TV pilots “Betrayal” and Influence.” “Transformers 4” has not announced where it will be headquartering although the chances are good, given its space and equipment needs, that it will sign with Cinespace.

As for where “Jupiter Ascending” will land — silence.
