I have just concluded a deal with Paramount to do two movies, but it won't be two Transformers.

I will first do 'Pain & Gain' with Mark Wahlberg and Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson.

Then I will do the next Transformers for release on June 27, 2014.

PR Newswire

HOLLYWOOD, Calif., Feb.13, 2012

HOLLYWOOD, Calif., Feb.13, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Paramount Pictures announced today that director Michael Bay has signed a two-picture deal with the studio, which will commence this spring with the filming of "Pain and Gain," and will be followed by the next installment in the hit "Transformers" franchise.

Based on a true story, "Pain and Gain" follows a group of bodybuilders who engaged in a campaign of kidnapping, extortion and murder in Florida. First told in an article from the Miami New Times, "Pain and Gain," will be directed by Bay and will star Mark Wahlberg and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. Expected to begin production in early spring, the movie's producers include Bay, Donald De Line and Ian Bryce.

Following "Pain and Gain," Bay will bring audiences a new take on the "Transformers" franchise as he begins production on the fourth installment in the hit series of movies based on the best-selling Hasbro toyline. The third, and most recent installment of the franchise, "Transformers: Dark of the Moon," is the fourth highest global grossing film of all time with 1.124 billion dollars of worldwide box office success. Directed by Bay, the movie will re-unite the filmmaking team from the hit franchise, including producers Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Don Murphy, Tom DeSanto and Ian Bryce; and executive producers Steven Spielberg, Bay, Brian Goldner and Mark Vahradian. Paramount Pictures will release the film on June 27th, 2014.

"Michael has been working on PAIN AND GAIN for a number of years but has patiently waited for the perfect casting to trigger a start," said Adam Goodman, President of Paramount's Film Group. "Clearly his patience has paid off as we couldn't be more excited about this combo. His passion for this project is just awesome."

To be honest, this seems more like a "SUPER SPECIAL INSIDER TELLS US" story than anything else, with a bit of fact sprinkled in about Pain and Gain that was previously hinted at through other sources.
Bumblebee765
Awesome! I hope Cyclonus will be the next main villain!

Seems to me like they are just looking at a trend. Michael Bay wants to take a rest at least, so I think the trend might be broken. Though 2014 is the 30th anniversary year. Would make sense for a new feature to tie in. Not sure if that is a good thing given how RotF overshadowed the 25th though.
kaiserlisk
Plenty of time for Prime to run its course.

Maybe.

I agree

I think this qualifies as the most reliable info we've seen so far, but it's still not quite official enough to be for sure.

It seems that anytime Hasbro celebrates a milestone in Transformers something bad happens to it.

2004- 20 years of Transformers- Energon comes out.
2009- 25 years of Transformers- Animated cancelled and RoTF comes out.

And what if every second live action Transformers film sucks?

2 years you say? They're giving Michael Plenty of time for Pain and Gain I see.

I was hoping it might be closer to 2015 or so before another movie. I still hope it is, cause I'm bloody well done with them for right now and I don't want it possibly messing with Prime.
kaijuguy19
Just as long it doens't get Prime canceled I'm okay with it.

In 2014? Optimism is great, but do you really think TFP will still be airing new episodes in 2014?
megatroptimus
Why not? You guys want a reboot with blocky G1-ish bots with alt modes from the 80s?
QLRformer
"... It's not over." Optimus Prime, 2011.

We would be really disappointed if it was.

By that time Prime amy complete it's run properly without being canceled. This is just the begining of 2012 so Prime will have time to finish it's course.

I expect TFP to run 3 seasons if we're lucky, taking us through the end of 2013. Again, if we're lucky.

If we're not lucky, TFP will end at the end of the coming season.

Oh look, another news article that hints at a Transformers 4, yet we don't get any concrete proof from it.

Then they'll match the odd-numbered films! HAHA!

But seriously, at the same time, we've been able to see 30 years of interest in the brand, and even if the reinventions are not so great, they still beat having nothing and they still have elements worth remembering and applying to future incarnations.
UltraMagnus2008
Yay!!!!!!!
Optimus Prime

As long as they take their time making the next movie. Giving prime time to run and giving them time to plan a great movie I'm totally ok with 2014.

I have no problem at all with a TF4, but yeah I'd be a little worried the 30th anniversary would turn into little more than the half-assed 25th anniversary (an Optimus reissue and the 25th anniversary foil stamped on some packaging of toys that were coming out anyways).

This is my big worry as well. If this is due for a Summer 2014 release, it sounds like they are already behind schedule. Next thing you know, they'll rush Bay, and he'll walk away, leaving Paramount to find an 11th hour replacement, rush the storyline, and farm out the CGI to 3-6 other FX houses cutting down on the quality.

Just out of curiosity, why do you care if it happens or not? If you don't want to see it, don't see it.
Unless you're wanting a reboot, which would be fine with me. I'm okay with either that or a continuation of the current trilogy.

I honestly think its a little silly for haters to flip out at these articles. "NOO!! Not transformers 4! Screw bayverse!" I don't think anyone should flip out till its actually confirmed. for now, just enjoy prime. I would love a TF4, I'd love to see where they take it. Give some new villains like straxus overlord or banzaitron.
dirgestone
I am happy actually. My only fear is that a different director might actually go with the fans and make them look G1. I like the look of the movieformers they make sense.
UltraAlanMagnus
A 4th Film in 2014? Good tie in for the 30th Anniversay of the Franchise.
ShOcKwAvE1213
Heeellllll yeeahhhh but still that's two years

We just want a good film, dammit.

Thank GOD. Now people can stop making those stupid "when is TF4 coming out?!" threads, although to be honest I haven't seen a new one recently. Still, at least the movie forum has something new to talk about.

Also, the fact TF4 is two years away means no pressure on upcoming lines, so Generations/FOC shouldn't have the same issues of previous "sandwiched-in" off-movie year lines.

But if Meggs and/or the other main cons are resurrected then he shall be happy

I can't wait for a TF4 personally , I love the movies and they are the only reason why I love transformers today, without them I wouldn't even know who Optimus prime was/is (that's how bad I was) for that reason the movies have become so important to me and I don't want them to stop any time soon
Ravenxl7
As long as Prime is allowed to get it's three full planned out seasons, and as many toys as it can, I'll be ok. I won't be happy that this shit movie-verse continuity would be continuing, but I'll be satisfied that Prime got what they planned out. If they don't, or can't, continue Prime afterwards, I'll either move on to whatever new show they make, or go back and start filling out my RID collection a bit.

Optimus Prime
Hopefully Bay hires Pat Lee to come up with some new designs for the movie. And play the lead role.
Meggamus
If paramout are setting a date for TF4 in relation to the other movies , shouldn't it come out in 2013 (regardless of whether bay can do it or not) thats the 2 year gap from the previous movie like all the others
TF1 2007 --> (2yrs) ROTF 2009 --> (2yrs) DOTM 2011 --> (2yrs) ???? 2013
As the trajectory shows, TF4 should come out in 2013 ,so what are they on about by saying 2014??
Autovolt 127

It's bad enough ROTF commerated the 25th anniversery and Energon commerated the 20th annivsery.

Can we have a anniversery year that didn't suck.
MTME
oh God, as if we didn't have enough tf4 threads already now they will be going into overdrive
