Michael Bay is trending on Twitter… and it’s for a very embarrassing reason. The Transformers: Age Of Extinction director had a bit of a predicament on stage at CES when his teleprompter went nuts. Technology… you never know when it’ll take you down.
Anyway, the director soon made a statement on his official site and promising that we’ll see Transformers 4 footage along with Samsung’s new Curved 105-inch UHD TV.
“Wow! I just embarrassed myself at CES – I was about to speak for Samsung for this awesome Curved 105-inch UHD TV. I rarely lend my name to any products, but this one is just stellar. I got so excited to talk, that I skipped over the Exec VP’s intro line and then the teleprompter got lost. Then the prompter went up and down – then I walked off. I guess live shows aren’t my thing.
But I’m doing a special curved screen experience with Samsung and Transformers 4 footage that will be traveling around the world.
Michael”

Michael Bay Melts Down Remembering Optimus Prime's Death from Funny Or Die and Andy Maxwell

Bay loves gimmicks, his films are full of them. He'll cheerfully throw in as many unnecessary explosions, lens flares, and pointless camera moves as possible.
The reason he initially dismissed 3d was because he preferred to shoot on film and didn't want to be forced to go digital.
I believe they do both, so it presumably does work.
Ever seen an Imax dome screen?

Think this is the most logical explanation – other than the teleprompter apparently failing. Bay hated 3D and curved TV's are arguably going to be another gimmick.
Interested also for anyone who might know – would there be such a thing as a 3D curved TV? Not sure the 3D effect would work with a curved TV?

You know, all this time I thought he was this super-confident, ludicrously egotistical; I-can-do-no-wrong, my-name-is akin-to-God, kinda' guy. Now, it just seems that he's just a flake.

I've seen numerous interviews of musicians and actors (done before a show or at a fund raising event, for example) where they didn't know what to say and either stared or mumbled something only vaguely relevant even though they spend a lot of time in front of people. In other words, out of "their element" they became awkward. I think we could have another example of that here.
With regard to the actual "event," I noticed that he used language that I have never heard him use previously. I am guessing that they gave him a "script" with language pretty much no one could "wing." I still think he could have handled it better, though.

He blew it.
He walked off in embarrassment.
And in doing so, he blew it again.
Next time, learn it rather than take a check and be unprepared Mike.
But I wouldn't call this a "melt down".
transtrekkie
Conan made a joke last night about the teleprompter transforming into a robot.

Someone probably just said "U do realize you directed Transformers right?" Then he just walked away.
Soundkaiser
Maybe he lost his mind and had to leave to blow something up

I think Funny or Die put it best "Michael Bay stormed off stage at CES after his teleprompter broke. No script, big explosion & a disappointed audience. Dude's still got it!"

For once I agree with the TMZ guys. None of us would have given any attention to Samsung’s new TV if the presentation went smoothly. But with this incident, the TV is famous worldwide. Everybody knows about the product… everybody tries to findout what it is. Michael Bay did not harm the reputation of the TV but rather catapult it into fame. I’m 100% sure the execs at Samsung thinks the same and probably thank him for what happened.

Let see so he took money to get up there, @&$!ed it up, cowardly walked away and then embarrassed himself on twitter. Truly heroic what a guy.

Awesome. Couldn't have happened to someone more deserving waste of space. This clown probably didn't bother to research the product he was endorsing. Epitome of a shill.

I wanted to see what else I could have found about this so I searched Michael Bay and heres one of the results…

Damn people are crazy. Disliking the guy one thing but some of the comments here are a little rough… or just unoriginal and stupid.
Aernaroth
I disagree, but he's done his best to roll with the consequences.
Grimlock22
Ya know as much as i dislike the man i still fell bad for him and i think him walking away was the best thing he could do
Aernaroth
He's not trying to dodge this incident, and I think that says a lot about him, for better or worse.

Such a misleading title.
