Transformers 3 Filming – A Red Chevy Truck And A Weird Object

Jimmy, I went down to my office at 6:30 am
and there was nothing going on. Walked all over and saw they
were doing something in the LaSalle Street Bridge,
didn't see any vehicles though.

Went back to the office and they cleared out
LaSalle and had the streets wetted down
with a water spraying truck. They were towing
cars and there were a lot of cops around but
no action. I stayed until around 10:00 and saw
production taking a lot of still photos but no
vehicles or action before I had to leave.

There are more filming signs up near my house
for tomorrow, if it is TF3 I will let you know.

man i dont know how u guys keep doing this. after the 1st 2 or 3 weekends i got burn out sticking around for hours just to get a few good glimpses

Well man I know where youre coming from, Ive had that feeling but hey this kinda stuff doesnt happen everyday and I think this is the last week of filming, when the Dark Knight was filming here I didnt go down at all to the sets, but Ive seen amazing pics, I guess you could say Im just curious and making up for lost time with the Dark Knight. Let me tell you if and when Batman 3 films here next year this will be happening all over again

Oh no problem man, I was actually making prints of all my pics at Walgreens today. Its so awesome and funny to see that one pic I got of Optimus from Lasalle being used here and there

Jimmy, its guys like you who bust their humps taking all those sweet pics and videos that make these sites that much more interesting....I also think it makes following these live action movies extremely entertaining..thanx dude!

Well, I have a bit of info for this week:

I checked the set near my house three times today and that shoot has been pushed off until tomorrow. From what I can tell it looks like it is probably not TF3 but I won't be able to tell for sure until the trucks roll in.

On a better note, while walking home today I did pass by what is obviously a TF3 setup on Wabash Street between Lake and Randolph. The parking lot next to the Popeye's is full of standard TF3-type "debris." It is unclear if they are shooting in that lot and its parking garage or just using it to stage materials for a bit further north near where they were shooting near Wacker and Lake a few weeks ago. From the signs it looks like they will be shooting there for at least two days.

Also, they still have equipment at the Old Post Office so they might not be done there either.

Dude where so you live??? interesting about the parking garage....oh and about the post office, what do they have over there??? I went by there the weekend after they filmed the first time, they still had it opened(meaning not having the stairs blocked off like a condemned building) and they still had a handful of those grey trucks in the back lot, and it looked like a mess, but no production trucks at all......

They still had those gray trucks and also security guards at the P.O...no reason to keep those people on the payroll there if they are completely done with that location.

I live right by the Hancock, the filming area by me is just south of Chicago Ave. near Northwestern, but based on the relatively small area they have marked off it looked more like one of the tv shows they are filming here now.

But the Wabash site is def. TF3, I posted a quick video of the set on my YouTube channel.

Oh nice.....Yeah dude I know it seemed like they were finished, and even when I went by there the security guard in the car was sleeping, I could have walked right in the door of the post office and he would have never known, but they did have heavy cameras on the place so it seemed like they were guarding something for TF3. Dude nice video and from what I saw yeah it seems like the filming is going to happen right in that little lot....

I'm sensing that the crews are still there but not the filming. There hasn't been new YouTube footage or pics for a week, so maybe they are filming at a studio or another location.

I haven't been over to Wabash yet today, but I did walk past the Post Office, where they appeared to be moving equipment in. There were also a few no parking/movie signs up for Aug. 17-19. So they might be filming on or around Van Buren on Wednesday.

Back at the Post Office and on LaSalle. Also, whatever they are doing with the choppers must be pretty low if they are closing the bridges:

6:00 am – 3:00 pm Friday August 20th.

12:00 pm – 10:00 pm

HELICOPTERS

8:00 am – 9:00 am, Saturday, August 21, helicopters will be used at low altitude for aerial photography over the Chicago River. This will include brief (15 minutes) intermittent closures of the bridges at Michigan, Wabash, State & Dearborn.

Additional helicopter flights will occur periodically over the downtown area at high elevations.

Dude nice thanks for the info but I might not be able to make it out to them because of Wizard World this weekend, just if you see some of the bots, especially Ironhide or anything else of interest maybe snap a few pics, or let me know

Thanks a bunch man, but I need to know something, are they just filming at the post office on Friday because thats what it sounds like, because if they would be filming there on Saturday I might be able to make it, but if they arent Im not going to make a trip to nothing, but I hope they are there over the weekend so I could see some post office action

No way to tell, that info comes straight from the city, but is kinda confusing. I will probably head over to the PO for lunch and will see if anythign is going on, see what the signs say.

Jimmy, I walked over there during lunch and the signs at the Post Office say until 7 am August 21...so that would be Friday only, but you never know, things can change.

I walked by the parking lot on Clinton Street next to Beggar's Pizza and they appear to be using it again for TF3 tomorrow. The last time they used it is the only time I have seen all of the Bots together (including Ironhide, the two Datsuns, and the Twins), so somebody should check it out. I will try to be there at least once or twice during the day if work isn't too busy.

Dude that would be awesome where do you work??? yeah I know that lot seemed to have all the bots together and it seems like the last time they were over at the post office was the only time they used Ironhide.......

Went past the LaSalle Street bridge Friday morning and they had some equipment there but not much going on yet. At the Post Office they had extras holding and vehicle parking lots reserved but as of 9:00 am no equipment and no vehicles anywhere.

Here's the interesting thing though: overnight the entire stretch of Wacker Drive from about Michigan to Van Buren has been marked "no parking" for this weekend, looked like mainly for Sunday. This is a very long stretch of real estate, and means that they could basically connect the Post Office set on Van Buren all the way north and east to the Lasalle, Wacker, and Michigan Avenue sets. There is no way they could be parking equipment on that whole stretch, so my *guess* is that they are filming helicopter shots of the vehicles driving all the way down Wacker. If Sunday is indeed the last day of shooting here in Chicago, it should be a good one.

OK, they were filming all day today on the LaSalle Street Bridge. The bridge was on fire, lots of soldiers running around, the standard stuff.

The Post Office shoot was apaprently delayed. All of the crew signs were up but no crew. The new parking signs say "no parking" until August 27, and the vehicle lot they used before is closed to the public until at least August 26. So they may be shooting there well into next week; whether they start on Saturday or not until next week is unknown.

There are signs up not just on Wacker but all over the Loop for this weekend. Hopefully Jimmy or someone can make it down to see what they're doing.

I passed what I assume was a prop truck today on I-65 south of Indianapolis. It had a big movie Prime emblazoned on the side of the cab as well as California ICC tags. Didn't get a chance to take a picture though. Are they doing any filming down south, or do you think they were just taking stuff back?

I was out of town today; in the morning on my way out I went by the Post Office (nothing there) and LaSalle Street Bridge (a bit of equipment but not much.) I tried to go down Wacker but the cops had it closed at Washington so something was going on there.

Came back late this evening, nothing at the P.O., nothing on Wacker or LaSalle, however there are trucks (including the Hog's Breath semi that I think is a vehicle hauler) parked on lower Water Street just east of Michigan.

So basically they will be somewhere doing something tomorrow No debris anywhere so some driving stuff, hope somebody gets a chance to see what they are doing.

On Saturday and Sunday I could hear Helicopters doing their flyovers. So today (Sunday) at 2pm, I went walking around (it was beautiful here in Chicago) and ended up seeing them film some Red Chevy Truck on the Wells St. Bridge. No actors or Michael Bay (that I could see), just the drivers and crew using the camera/chase car and a camera on the ground. They were filming the truck driving slowly up to the corner and stopping (for the 5 minutes I stuck around). Didn't see any Autobot or Decepticon logos so it might just be a regular truck:





Then I wandered behind the alley at Hotel 71 and saw piles of debris and rubble; basically the stuff we'd seen before (concrete, brick walls, rocks, etc). But what I noticed was this odd thingy (2nd shot is a closer look):



I'm not sure what it is or what it's used for but it looks sort of alien and designed and has rigs & cables attached. Maybe it's suppose to be a piece of a robot or something? Who knows.

Finally, I went by the Old Post Office where NOTHING was happening even though the place is still made up like the NEST place. So, I took some closeup shots of the gate area and what look like these ray gun towers:







Everyone was probably on lunch break because nobody was around on the "No Parking" streets or anything (except for the Red Truck stuff mentioned in above post, who were gone by 4pm). I just decided to walk home but of course, later I could hear the choppers flying around again. I was too lazy to go back out to see what was up so if there was any action today, I pretty much missed it.

So, anybody got anything from this weekend?

Plus, those laser security pylons/fences look awesome! It seems human technology has come along leaps and bounds since TF2.

The Red Chevy Silverado would make a great Gears or maybe a Huffer or Pipes character too!!

If it was purple/gray it would an a great figure for Dropkick since he is a custom chevy truck from the first Transformers game...

Its clearly going to be Kiss Players Prime. They said Prime was going to look different and the Other "Prime" with his trailer is obviously a red herring.

Hmmmm.... Interesting! Soundwave had a Silverado as his vehicle mode on ROTF Concept Arts...

But a red Soundwave? That doesn't work on any level for me... it would look like movie Blaster.

I do recall the Topkick being discontinued so maybe we're finally getting a red Ironhide in the movie? I mean we saw that all the other Autobots changed their forms a bit to redisguise themselves, even Prime slimmed down and added a trailer. Ironhide is the only one that's been identical so far.

On Sunday there was lots of equipment on the lower levels east of Michigan, and signs up in Lakeshore East again, but I didn't see anything interesting.

I'll check out the Post Office again, they obviously aren't done there yet.

Also they were filming a Chevy truck commercial in the Loop on Sunday, not sure if the Porsche filming car is something everyone uses or only TF3 has.

Hope the truck is red alert.

Whats got me wondering is that weird object in the pics,if you look it at it,it almost seems
like the front half of G1 Blurr without the side flaps.I wish it were Blurr,he was so annoying
but cute.

And Bay uses the Prosche Cayanne as his camera car.

Besides, Chevy wouldn't film their own commercials, they would farm them out. The film crew uses whatever.
