Transformers 2: Jetfire Will Be An Autobot, Not A Decepticon

So we have a a very wierd looking Autobot on our hands...

I was hoping he'd be an Autobot, and I was right! All the same, it would be interesting if the G1 part happened in the movie too!

Why would bay waste film and shooting time to run through the 'finding the Con badge on the jet' sequences if all it was for was to confused a few fanboys?

Lets see, the TFW TF2 Insider says Devastator will be in the Movie, and then Bob Orci all but confirms it in his Q&A thread. But you're right, the information from this source must be bullshit.

So what would make Jetfire change from decepticon to Autobot?

But i still don't believe anything that this 'TFW T2 Insider' says until i see it on screen.

But we have eye witness reports of people saying they heard John Turturro scream "Decepticon!" in the scene they filmed in the Air and Space museum, where the little robot points at the SR-71 and they all run outside (just like the call sheet said they would)...

Unless he changes faction, but that doesn't seem like something the movie TFs would do. They are basically there to blow stuff up...

I still think the SR-71 is Soundwave, and all this talk of "Jetfire" is just a coverup...

Not sure if it was mentioned, but could the Movie Jetfires orgin story be similar to the Skyfire/Jetfire orgin in the cartoon? That may explain the decepticon emblem.

IF he does switch sides in the movie as speculated, I'm curious how they'd go about having the faction symbol morpth from con to bot.

Well the callsheet did say jetfire walks away with sam and co, even though he has a decepticon insignia. Maybe the react to it at first till he explains he's not violent or going to hurt them.

Jetfire is the fallen, and he gets his revenge. Oh yes.

kinda like the g1 pyramid cartoon one where jetfire saves the day.....I can see it now......

Let's say Jetfire starts out as a Decepticon (likely, considering the call sheets and what we've heard of the scene that was filmed) and then switches sides. I'd imagine Hasbro wont market the toy as both an Autobot and a Decepticon so they'll choose one faction over the other, probably Autobot since the good guys tend to take precedent over the bad guys. Let's assume the inside source saw toy samples. If Jetfire's toy was sold as a 'bot that would lead one to assume he's an Autobot in the movie even if this is only partly correct.

Yup... and Jetfire sneezing on him. Starscream is armed to the teeth in bot and jet mode. Jetfire not so lucky. Blackbirds were all about stealth, speed, and minimal signature. Weapons don't fit in the equation. I'm sure in robot mode tho, he'll figure some way to turn a fist into a plasma cannon like Prime, Megs, and B.B.

Megs would never stoop so low. He would be something intimidating. I'd love him to be a prototype unmanned gunship for an earth mode.

no place to add weapons on a blackbird (I've been in one, it's a hollow corridor with some computer surveillance gear in it. That's it). So far, no autobot has exhibited weapons in altmode.

Still trying to see how they'll get a very big robot out of the SR-71. It'll have to be squat like Starscream, just because there is so little substance in the jet without mass-shifting. You got the cockpit, with instruments in the nosecone; you have the long corridor with computer stations; and the back of the plane is 99% fuel storage, since that baby eats fuel like no other. Without mass shifting, 40ft tall, like Starscream, is about the max they could squeeze out of it.


Most of the bots and cons don't even have symbols on them. Prime, Bumblebee, and Barricade were the only ones I saw symbols on.

Some time ago I believe Roberto hinted at one of the new characters having a very G1 back story. This was just after the blackbird images hit . I cant remember if it was here or Don Murphy's board that he said it.

He also said there was TF that was on Earth even longer than Megatron.

I assumed with the two things combined he might have been speaking of how Jetfire got trapped on earth in the artic and also that Jetfire switched allegiances after realizing StarScream was on the wrong side.

So if there are similarities this would explain him listed with the decepticon symbol first then he could choose to be an autobot.

I think having him switch sides forces him to be a central character and really develop his character so Id be all for it.

Jazz had the symbol on his forehead, was just hard to see cause it was just a raised emboss of the symbol like on Ironhide's tail gate.

But yeah will be interesting to see how big they actually manage to make Jetfire. For Starscream i think they delibarately squashed his design down to keep his end height down.

Ashion is right, Jazz's symbol is on his forehead (very tough to spot). And don't forget Ironhide's symbol is the back of his truck mode (don't think you can see it in bot mode), Ratchet's symbol is on his shoulder and Starscream's is also on his forehead.

Yeah right,there's no way that the bizarre robot mode design we saw for that legends class figure could ever be something less than a total destroyer of life. (and the figure did have a weapon,it was hanging off the cockpit)

Unlike the original series and others that followed, all the faction markings were much more subtle and mostly shown as embossed marks on either the foreheads or the shoulders, with some like BB and Optimus having the familiar red colour. Thats why their so hard to see even in still photos you really need to look hard for them... come to think of it not sure where Megatron's markings are.

Back on topic... Jetfire, like the other Autobots, may not have weapons in his alt mode, but could easily have built in weapons in the arms or shoulders like Ironhide or BB, or have a separate carried weapon like Optimus (his gun was tucked away and miggled in with the plating of his back, popping out when he reach back and around for it). Or he just may not carry any weapons at all. His original character was very much the pacifist, prefering to just offer his services as a scientist and transport where needed.

....Orci has been hinting at Devastator for AGES. Besides, didn't a previous inside source for TFW say that movie Prime would have "boxy shoulders like G2 Optimus Prime", during...Botcon 2006, I think?

Both Seibertron and Unicron.Com had inside sources that are most likely fake, and the only reliable source of info that TFW has is Phillyfilmgirl because she provides proof of her claims. What makes the TFW insider so special, when what he claims goes DIRECTLY against what has been filmed and shot? Did you and the other admins/mods see photographic proof that the Blackbird (of who it's not even sure that it's Jetfire) an Autobot?

Well all in all like almost every bit of info coming out its going to be a case of 'wait and see' in the end.

Its just nice and fun to poke around and speculate and see what happens in the end.

True. We are noteven sure if the Blackbird is Jetfire, but we are sure that it had Decepticon symbols on it. Not because one source had one satement right, means you have to believe everything that he claims.

We weren't even sure whether it was a Transformer until we saw the toy recently.

The information does not go against anything that has been filmed or shot, you have not seen that footage so implying that as fact is inaccurate. We know the TFW TF2 Insider is legit, and will not go into any more details. How quickly people seem to forget what site provided the first looks at Ratchet, Jazz, Megatron etc prior to TF1. Now please stop derailing this thread.

You must have eyes better than an eagle, because I looked at the Bluray in slow mo, trying to see any details I might have missed in the bots, and never saw any symbols.

I knew from the one website render that Starscream had the forehead symbol, but when I watched the close-up shot of him talking to Megs, it was iffy if it was the decepticon symbol or just shading on his forehead.

Considering their reformat-on-the-fly nature, I'm sure Jetfire changing his faction symbol would be no more difficult than him just willing it to change.
