Actor Titus Welliver corrects his previous statement about Transformers: Age Of Extinction, where he mentioned it as “Not A Kids Movie”.

Today, Paramount Pictures reached us with a corrected statement:

Titus misspoke and released the following statement to clarify his comments: “I misspoke in my last interview when I said that Transformers 4 was not a kids movie…what I meant was that this film, will in fact expand their target audience and bring in a bigger fan base. Following the huge success of Transformers and their toy line, it is certainly a kids movie and with the addition of Mark Wahlberg, Transformers 4 will be the coolest in the franchise.”

Talk about back tracking.
MV95
Yea I figured that's what he meant and people took it so out of proportion lol
SPLIT LIP
Dude needs to really watch his words. When I think "kids movie" I think a movie aimed almost directly at children. He's saying it's not, that it's aimed at more ages... but is still a kids movie.

I think what he's trying to say is "it's not kiddie or directed exclusively at little children" which, honestly, was clearer the FIRST time he said it. This just makes it more confusing.
Zergi
is it a plane? its a Starscream? nope, there goes some hope for the transformers movie!

i realized my grammar was the best smh.

Batman
Is there any reason to think that it would be any different than the other 3?
SPLIT LIP
I never considered the other movies kid's movies, either. I mean, there's some harsh violence and "adult" aspects. DOTM even moreso.

Hahahahahahahahaha
shibamura_prime
Yeah. He TOTALLY wrote that. XD

That statement brought to you by the good people at Paramount.

Jeez. Who is this guy that he clearly can't stand by a statement he made? Then again, with the kind of money Bay has, Mr. Welliver was probably leaned on by a couple of greasy fat guys in sharkskin suits.

Transparent.

So this is what real life autocorrect looks like.

Sounds like a nice porno.

This really isn't THAT odd. Actors, Actresses, people of the business going back on their word is not surprising.

Well it can't be any worse or more racist than ROTF.

What a complete tool. Its no longer even funny what he's doing - he's just promoting the film - which means his character Savoy (leader of the team of agents hired by Attinger) is likely one of the main characters in a similar way to Agents Simmons in TF;ROTF or TF;DOTM.

Then why didn't you explain at the time?

Their is no possibly way that anyone can determine if it will expand their target audience before the film is released - that is only something you can know after the movie. You can also not tell the fan reaction before the movie is out.

Actually the toy lines have been up and down recently - hence why the toy line has changed massively for TF;AOE to be targeted at children in one version and have the generations line targeted at adults.

Yeah... never use 'coolest' when your advertising a film - its obviously just further proof that your just trying to promote the movie and will say whatever hypes the fan base. As for it being a kids movie... given its a PG-13 film at the lowest, its actually targeted at teenagers.

The rating PG-13 means that you need parental guidance if you are younger than a teenager - meaning its primarily aimed at teenagers (With anyone younger being forced to bring family members - thus heightening the earnings)

I am more surprised that folks took his quote seriously.

Exactly, these aren't kids movies, they never have been, matter of fact any parent who took their kids to see 2 and 3 should really take a look inside themselves and see if they really care about what's best for their children.

Anyone who takes them to this one should just question their own sanity.

I got exactly what he meant the first time, and knew he would get in trouble with the Hasbro big wigs. It's pretty easy to assume that he meant that this movie had a more serious tone to it. And I know the movie will not get a rating higher than a PG-13. Honestly, can anyone for a second believe he meant this would be an R Rated movie?

I knew what he meant. As did most of us. But in today's day and age, it does not matter who you are, people need to say what they mean and mean what they say. Some assume that what you're "trying" to say or what "you" mean will be taken the same way and or used in the same pretense you said it in. With the
Internet being the super information highway it is, as soon as you open your mouth your words are plastered "everywhere".

That's his JOB. He's an actor, and promoting the movie is what pays his bills. He ain't rich, he ain't famous; he's basically an average joe who happens to be on camera for a living. Doesn't make him a "tool". Didn't you ever screw up at your own job? Christ, would people in this forum calm down.
Stryker055
Why was there even a need to backtrack? The Transformers films are very obviously not kids' movies. Was there really an outcry of "OH NO THE TOY MOVIES ARE GOING TO BE R-RATED AND FULL OF SEX AND VIOLENCE SOMEONE THINK OF THE CHILDREN"?
Ravage101
Oh Gods Hasbro...heaven forbid if grown-ups actually want to see your movie...seriously!

Not a kids movie is the best press you could get. Hell I think this film should be rated R!

Other way around man... by saying it's not a kids movie you alienate a HUGE audience who would then never have a desire for all sorts of merchandise.

Translation: Paramount thought they'd lose money so they tortured the ever-loving SHIT out of this guy until he took it back. I do love Hollywood marketing bullshit.
Tresob
Uhm...so the movie is going to be PG and not PG-13 this time? Because, while I don't consider 13 year-olds-adults, I also don't think of 13 year-olds as the target demographic of "kids movies." None of the live action TF movies have been child-friendly. (And, honestly, I'd have much preferred a PG version of these Bay movies...they'd actually be more mature.)
Alpha_&_Omega
ouch, looks like some one got whipped by a contract clause, lol.

didnt DOTM have Skulls and skeletons laying around?

Its PG-13.
Double D
Didn't we all assume this is what he meant. I know I did. We all know Transformers are intended for kids more than adults. But when you get kids you get parents too. So ya we knew what you meant. No need for clarification.

i was happier when it wasnt a kids movie

Its not his job to promote the movie and given he's likely in the movie for less than 30 minutes then I heavily doubt that he was paid to promote it either. Sure he cant say anything bad about the movie - but he's changing his responses which makes it seem like he's making it all up.

I am incredibly calm on the matter, 90% of those commenting are just making fun of the blatant lie. I just was more serious in my response as I find it disappointing that people believe him. I know chances are high that the movie will be along the lines of a copy of TF;2007 with the level of humour/style of DOTM.

Skulls and skeletons are not as bad as decomposing bodies or someone being cut. If you see a skeleton then you may be shocked or scared - but decomposing or wounded bodies have blood and other substances that activate a 'gag reflex' on anyone who is not desensitised - so chances are that they give a higher rating for bodies than they do for bones. While DOTM had both - the bodies were not in the process of being wounded.

Oh yeah, whoever wrote his back track was on the right track there, they backed up like a true champ!

But really anyone who doesn't know better by now not to bring children to these films should be ashamed of themselves anyway.

Maybe he's afraid they will delete him out of the movie and take his cash back, ha.

Basically-hey Titus, we don't need to be scaring off a key target demographic.

Well....what THEY say a key target demographic is. I've seen all 3 TF films multiple times in theaters at kid friendly screening times and well over 75% of the audience was adult. A huge part of the remaining 25% was 13/14 to 18. I interpret "kids" as like....10/11 and under because trust me people, if you've ever browsed a 12 or 13 year olds phone? Yeah, I don't think a "darker" TF is going to shock them .

He misspoke in his previous interview, what he really means is if he ever wants to work in Hollywood again, he'll recite the official Bay, Hasbro, Paramount Age of Extinction talking points.

I really dislike corporate speak.

Yeah, it's part of his job, just like it is for any member of the cast or crew who ends up on camera. And the fact that he's not being paid specifically for the quote is part of my point; someone asked him a question, and he answered. Of course it's all made up; all of it comes from the marcom department. It's not up to him whether he changes his responses, so blaming him for a marketing decision is like bitching at the McDonald's clerk because the new Happy Meal toys are ugly.

Transformers 4: The kids movie that isn't a kids movie.
Incepticon
This already was obvious to anyone who actually read his original quote. TFW2005's misquoted "headline" combined with people's kneejerk reactions is what caused this; not what he actually (originally) said.
MTME
how do you clearly say "this is not a kids movie" to no I meant it is expanding the target audience, there is nothing remotely mistook about the original sentence nothing to indicate that he meant the latter this is the worst case of back tracking ever.
