Soundworks Collection - The Sound Of Transformers: Dark Of The Moon

Posted on 06-27-2011 at 07:35 PM by NIBMRatchet under Transformers Movie (Just Movie) (All Transformers Movie News)
Director Michael Bay and Producer Steven Speilberg return this summer for the third film in the Transformers franchise, Tranformers: Dark of the Moon. The amazing visual effects in this film are complimented by the talented efforts of the sound team including Re-recording Mixers Greg Russell and Jeff Haboush, and Supervising Sound Editor and Sound Designers Ethan Van der Ryn, and Erik Aadahl.

This is the first 3D film of the series and will also be presented in regular 2D, Real D 3D and IMAX, featuring Dolby Surround 7.1 sound.

can't wait to hear all the cool sound effects

Great little doc! Sound Design is definitely something I can see myself getting into in the near future.

nice piece.
Poho
Awesome! They were nominated for sound
At the oscars for the first movie. Also bad sentences.

That dry ice on metal is an AMAZING sound. I'm working on a script where sound is KEY to the story. I'm gonna look deeper into this.

Very cool to see some of the stuff they've done for the sound of this film.

I find it kinda cool that part of the sound of the Ark's crash is that of dry ice vibrating against metal. (Although scientific nitpicking would point out that there shouldn't be any sound of the crash, considering the Moon has no atmosphere...)

Yeah, pretty amazing...and a cool job as well!

Really would like to see DOTM get a soundFX award for this.

Dry ice can make some really wicked sounds

That sound is...THAT'S RIGHT: AWESOME!

But I find amazing how everything on DOTM is groundbreaking: The 3D is groundbreaking, the explosions are groundbreaking, the special effects are groundreabking, the action scenes are groundbreaking, the sound, THE FUCKING SOUND IS GROUNDBREAKING!

I wouldn't be surprised if someone said that the ground itself is groundbreaking on this movie.

Did you see how much ground they took up in Chicago during filming?

Im glad these unsung heroes are being highlited in their own segment/video clip.

While the "main gang" are toiling it out at the set all over the world, the small team of audio guys went unnoticed setting up their stuff to record maybe just one or few sound, which definitely are crucial to the overall movie, every single bits and hertz.

This scene comes to mind

(somewhere outside a suburban junkyard)
Onlooker: Watcha doing?
audio guys: we're recording the worm-drill thingy sound for TF3
Onlooker: uhmm (doubtful looks), ok.. (walks away).

This video further proves Bay & Co. are soul less douchebags who obviously have zero talent when it comes to making a movie.

It is nice to know where they get those really cool sounds, I'm amazed to find out how simple some of it is.

Damn, I could watch documentaries like this the whole day, and not get tired of it. As an amateur music producer, I also try to design alot of sounds myself, and I know how much people underestimate the process of mixing music, and sound design. These guys are geniuses. Awesome.

@ 03Mach1: why? I think you don't understand how awesome this is, and that these sound engineers have done a fantastic job.

He was joking man, thus the little emoticon he used at the end of his post. Obviously was intended to take a chunk out to the critics, who have that sort of view.

This movie is going to make me cry due to an overdose of f***ing ground breaking awesomeness!
EnerJohn
This is why I always wanted to work in film.
