Rumor: Transformers 4 & 5 May Film Back to Back; Jason Statham Rumor Resurfaces

Statham
Take this with a HUGE grain of salt. Showblitz.com is reporting that Hasbro said on a Monday earnings call that they were in "active discussions" with Paramount, Michael Bay and Steven Spielberg on how to move forward with the film franchise. Sources close to the planning process tell the website it could actually be two films headed into production, a measure that can save millions because cast and crew deals only be negotiated once, among other factors. Ehren Kruger is said to have an idea for the next installments that the studio likes. Shia Leabouf is still out and, once again, Jason Statham has been discussed yet again. Statham was previously rumored to be Lebouf's replacement and later dismissed by Michael Bay himself.

Again, take this with a HUGE grain of salt. We'll keep you posted as more information rolls in. For the time being, sound off in the discussion thread.

People please quit complaining. Just because YOU dont like the movies doesnt mean there arent people who enjoy them, like myself. I love the movies and im looking forward to these if it is in fact true. The movies arent interfering with your precious prime, or G1, or IDW. Let those who enjoy them, do just that. Nobody is forcing you to watch them, im not trying to be rude or hateful I'm just saying.

statham is going to have a mini cooper transformer.

I can't say I look forward to 4th and 5th movies in the same franchise but its undeniably true they are successful. Even so I enjoy them quite a bit, even when there are some absurdly, hilariously, bad parts in each of them. Overall I still have fun when I see these films. However, Statham has no place in them. He would be a mistake.
Wheeljack_Prime
Oh dear, with the sole exceptions of LotR and BttF, this way of filming never works. Also very uncharacteristic of Bay, who has made no secret of his distaste of films that have teaser endings...
drill
I'm fine with another Transformers movie, but for the love of god dont let Ehren Kruger write the damn thing. His writing is complete crap, let someone else give their hand at the franchise.
Scantron
I'll hold off getting too excited until we've got something more solid than 'awesome inside sources', especially since we've heard the Jason Statham rumor before, IIRC. Sounds interesting though, if they have an idea that would be strong enough to support, presumably, two back-to-back movies released a year apart. Even if Bay does stay on, though, I expect the designs at least to get a reboot, especially since Hasbro's recent earnings announcements admitted that having the same basic designs for 3 films reduced purchasing of the same characters.

Anyway, I'll step aside and let the inevitable "RRARRARARGH, REBOOT IT AND REDO G1 CARTOON NOT BAYFORMERS RARARRRRGGH!!!!" continue.
wolfe
Statham rumor, again? Like the actor but still cannot see the fit.
Bumblethumper
While I'm not enthusiastic about extending the Bay series, it's starting to seem inevitable. If it has to go ahead, I think this is a good way to go about it.

Shooting 2 films back-to-back should mean they put more thought and pre-planning into the continuity. And it seems more natural to stop at 5 than 4. What is that a quintology or a pentalogy?

It'll also solve the problem of ending up back in the same situation when the 4th film is completed and they have to convince/throw money at Bay or whoever to get another one made.

(might as well repost this from the other thread)

These are going to be the worst movies ever! Michael Bay hates Transformers and is just trying to insult the franchise by making these movies (even if he ends up not being involved in these two)! Hasbro doesn't care about the fans because all they do is put out movie garbage instead of GOOD toys that serious collectors want! The movie designs suck because they're just piles of random metal shards that look like bugs! Too many humans! Everyone who actually cares about Transformers should boycott these movies! Send letters to Paramount and Hasbro and petition them to stop now before they utterly destroy this franchise. If these movies get made, Transformers will be even more of a joke franchise than troll dolls! I'd rather buy a $700 3rd party G1 Searchlight than have someone pay me to buy a movie toy! I'm just gonna go rewatch "Five Faces of Darkness" over and over until Hasbro wakes up and realizes that NOBODY wants any more of this movie crap!!!*

*there, I've just summarized the next four years of Transformers movie news discussion. You don't need to do it yourself. Seriously, don't do it.

Fairly unanimous opinion I hold: make sure you get a new director. Bay films stuff in a cool way and is a good action director (most of the time) but he suffers when bringing heart to a story.

A new director could make a massive difference. I think even Spielberg would be a good choice as he knows how to command action and emotion at the same time. I'm at a loss thinking of other directors who could do well in the chair.

With Megatron, Starscream and Soundwave dead I'd hope for Galvatron, Cyclonus and Scourge to be the main villains. Unicron doesn't need to be a planet eater and TF: Prime is proof that changing him up can still work. I just don't want Galvatron to be subserviant to another as the Megatrons of G1 and Prime have so eloquently put it before Unicron's might.

It would be good to have the bot faces redesigned as though they're neat for Decepticreeps but I prefer having some Autobots with noses despite the utility being zero (well, Ratchet did sniff Sam's internal boner).
HulksmashU
Filming 4 and 5 back to back? thats EXACTLY what they said they would do with the spiderman movie seirse like 2 years ago, and than a few months later they just came out and decided to reboot the whole movie seirse all together. I SMELL REBOOT..!
aprim
Im not a huge fan of the movies but the bottom line is these movies and these Bots are here to stay.
To think Hasbro and Paramount are just going to reboot or forget the money these rack in is like McDonald's not selling burgers anymore.

Lets just hope it becomes big enough for Hasbro to release some DTD G1 stories for old school fans.
Ash from Carolina
Well maybe they can run the films into the ground so everything doesn't have to get put on hold because heaven's forbid a Transformers fan might want something other than movie toys.

Reboot, please.

Transformers 4 And 5 May Film Back-To-Back; LaBeouf Out, Statham In?
Michael Bay looks likely to return to direct two more transformers movies, which will be shot back-to-back! As for former leading man Shia LaBeouf, it looks like Jason Statham will indeed be taking over from him...

http://media.comicbookmovie.com/imag...0/093fetgk.jpg

Showblitz report that Paramount and Hasbro (who we have already discovered are considering more Transformers movies) are now considering shooting fourth and fifth movies back-to-back with "active discussions" said to be taking place. Sources close to the site have informed them that it's likely two films will be produced at the same time due to the massive savings this ensures the studio. Screenwriter Ehren Kruger reportedly has an well liked idea for the two future installments, but they do NOT include Shia LaBeouf, who’s says he’s moving on, with other close sources indicating that it'll be Jason Statham who takes over. And what of director Michael Bay? Well, he's interested in returning to direct, but that may mean Paramount will have to wait for him to finish work on Pain and Gain first. He will however return as executive producer alongside Steven Spielberg.

Transformers 4 And 5 May Film Back-To-Back; LaBeouf Out, Statham In?
i hope not but i want shia to come back but that will be cool if we get to see a older verision of sam witwiky! if jason S. comes and shia does reprise his role! then Jason will have a difent role like a nest agent or a voice actor! only time will till!
Barricade252525
I'm not sure if i want another Transformers film if Shia isnt returning. Unless, they get Nathan Fillion as the new lead! ;D
Dr. Prime
This tidbit of a rumor is exciting to me, even if it doesn't come true in a full sense of the rumor. I had been a bit depressed after the 3rd movie was released and done because I thought it might be the end of the movie-side of the franchise. I know there are a lot of haters and complainers out there, but these movies and the buzz they create are a big reason for a lot of the other transformer merchandise and figures that we get.
Repainted
I'm happy to have the movies. Not all franchises however well known, profitable, length of existence, etc even get 1 motion picture and we've had 4. 3 more than many of us ever expected. So I wouldn't take anything for granted. If Statham is going to be another Witwicky, it could be Sparkplug or Buster, it wouldn't be the end of anything. The live action only Mikaela (Megan Fox) was replaced with a G1 homage in Carly (Rosie Huntington-Whitely), so you never know how it'll play out. If they get made back to back, i can't really gauge that except that it may mean faster release dates depending on successes.
blackout501st
i like jason stantham a lot. he is a good action actor. i could see him as a nest dude just doing black ops stuff with the autobots. but in all honesty, im still not sure yet. he could be good for the movies, he could be not so good. time will tell if this rumor is true or not. but anyway. back to the main point.

honestly, i don't really care or mind if they film 4 and 5 back to back. just please. for the love of god. no more Michael bay. i stood up for him after all the crap he got from revenge of the fallen. but in dark of the moon, it was all about the humans, with the transformers as moving plot points and set pieces. he has always been trying to make people movies out of a movies about giant transforming alien robots. just doesn't work. and he has proven that to me. so you know what? enough with bay. bring in someone new. and please.. no reboot. and stick with the designs. no redesigns. i love the movie style, and i don't think it needs tampering with.

there are my

revenge of the fallen did not kill transformers animated. people like to blame it on ROTF, because it is convenient. cartoon network killed transformers animated when they canceled it. as for the toys, its all a matter of opinion. i loved many of the ROTF line toys. for 2009, they were good toys. a lot of them have had good updates, but most of them are still fun toys. IMO.

I can dig it ~ My preference would be a new director with MB producing, and PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE a better story/script.... I thought DOTM was decent, but you could drive Prime through some of the plotholes (WITH his trailer)

I dig Statham, so hopefully that's true. Hard to see him being anything but another one of the military guys though; hope they can talk Josh Duhamel back, I really think him and Tyrese Gibson are the only human characters well worth running with...
Starscreamer69
I hope this isn't true. I really would like the next Transformer movie to have another director.
autodrift
without labeof, the film is dead, even after megan left i felt it was odd with the other chick. i think once you start a franchise and main charactors dont want to continue the film, it really makes it just not the same anymore.

i dont see anyone being able to take labeof's place as a actor, just not gonna happen, anyone can hate on the kid but he is a great actor in my opinion and without him i dont think these movies would have turned out as good.

i say reboot altogether if they are going to continue tf movies.

Shia has been a essential part of the movie verse but that's over stating it a bit.

As long as there is a new lead who is a new character it should be fine. A relative unknown was cast into the movieverse - Shia Labeouf - so it stands that a similarly relative unknown could step up to the plate once more.
Orbital
If these rumors are true, I think Hasbro intends to not wait for Micheal Bay to finish his next film before doing this one. Starting discussions this soon, makes them seem either desperate to keep riding off the franchises box office success or they're just way to eager to stop making films and a break that's longer than two years is probably too long for them to wait. Either way, shooting back to back films takes a lot longer, so if they plan to do it, they'll announce the films being green lit as soon as possible.

On a side note, if they do make two back to back films, I hope Hasbro/Paramount treat it as its own self contained duology(Kind of like the relationship between the two Star Wars trilogies). Have it set in the same universe as the previous trilogy but exploring different stories with a very different cast, possibly only carry over a few from the previous installments.
unicronic
The biggest weakness of the movie trilogy has been the lack of a strong villain who you can root against. Megatron died in part 1 without having much screen time, The Fallen fell before he did much and in TF3 Sentinel was the best effort to date but still short of the mark.

I pray TF-NEXT takes a look at movies like The Dark Knight for how to create a villain to despise. The key villain should slip through the heroes grasp a few times - maybe even outsmart them a few times - before the final smackdown preferably performing a few despicable acts along the way. Not one enemy death in any TF movie felt like the Autobots had to go all out to achieve a victory.

Cartoon Network did not cancel Animated. Hasbro did, because stores wouldn't buy anymore of the figures. Guess why?

They wanted more movie toys.

Obviously, Hasbro wouldn't keep investing in a cartoon if it wasn't going to sell toys, and there was already over a year planned out with movie figures in its place. Hasbro did the logical thing and then used the opportunity to launch The Hub.

The movies stomp out all of its in-brand competition. That is a fact. The thought of losing a well-written innovative cartoon to a lousy forgettable two-hour cash-grab infuriates me.
Keith Prime
Yeah, & DotM did affect Prime: it delayed the relase of the toys, to prevent the overlap.

& if they do continue the movievese, whoever does it however, MAKE THE TRANSFORMERS THE LEAD ROLES! Enough w/ humans taking away screen time from the title characters!

Never going to happen.
NEST SOLDIER
I'm all for more TF films, but i would hope that both Hasbro and Paramount do not rush into this blinded by dollar signs. After all, the fans are what produce those dollar signs, and it is ultimately up to us if the franchise continues to be succesful.

Having said that, I honestly would like to see the films under new direction, with deeper character from the bots, and more bot driven storylines, without sacrificing the intensity and level of action that we have already seen.

It could turn out to be hasbro's greatest success, or their greatest failure!

Of course, this is the same Michael Bay who called 3D a gimmick, and said it was too fragile for his type of explosive filmmaking back in April 2009.

I hope Statham stays out of this, I hate all his films...

The only thing I care about is get Michael Bay's Ham fisted tasteless frat boy ADD CRAP director ass off this franchise. Anybody. Anybody would be better. Rotf and dotm are unwatchable pieces of shit. Statham? Sure If the movie is good. Bay go away and ruin something else.
TigerBlade
Am I the only one to think Shia's character should have ended at number 2? It seemed to be shoehorned in to me for 3 and verging on the ridiculous.

As for the movie continuum being dead? Seriously? There are still a tonne of kick ass characters that haven't been touched that can be pulled in.....I wanna see big robots kicking the shit out of each other not human characters that have weak story lines just because they were in the previous movies.

Bring it!
