RUMOR: SAAB Aero-X Concept Car to be Wheeljack in Transformers 2

Wow, that car looks freaking brilliant. I can't wait!

This sounds fishy, yes.

This car is already on the G.I. Joe movie (go to hisstank.com for pics).

On the other hand, it resembles the Lancia Stratos more than any other car actually in production. And SAAB belongs to GM, to boot.

And Wheeljack in TF2 would be... awesome.

I like Wheeljack. I hope this is real or at least Wheeljack will be in the film. He has one of those heads that would look great all stylized with the movie design. He even has a battle mask.

After seeing this, that would totally work as Wheeljack.

I hope he'll be in TF2. My older sister would love it as well since WJ is one of her all-time favorites.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but this car's already being used in G.I. Joe Movie. And seeing how they only made one Aero-X, we won't see it in Transformers 2 unless there's a direct confirmation. Hmmm, although there's a very good chance that SAAB could whore itself out to summer blockbusters. But there's also a good chance that Eric Geers just mistook the movie in question as TF2 since there's two Hasbro blockbusters coming out in summer of 2009.

Anyways, I'd be happy to see this in TF2 though. I got to see it twice in real life and it's insanely beautiful. I must have walked around it for an hour before I could leave it.

Nonsense. Stripes will ruin the car, and that legendary Alitalia livery should be exclusive to Lancia Stratos.

This, would actually work perfectly as the new Wheeljack. The Fenomenon Stratos from couple of years ago.

That's not a photoshop. That is an actual car made by a independent company called Fenomenon who redesigned the Lancia Stratos, on which Wheeljack was based. The Alitalia stripes, the red and green stripe, is a racing livery for the Stratos rally car, and that particular car was indeed painted in those colors to commemorate the rally car.

Aaaaaanyways. Hot Rod would be interesting, although it would make no sense for him to exist unless Prime dies.

But for the Aero-X to be in GI Joe and Transformers 2 while they're filming side to side? Iffy.

I was thinking that myself, if it ever made it into production looking anything like this I'd be saving for months to get one and be buying it in bat black, naturally.

I agree that the source is highly dubious. And the fact that it's already in an upcoming movie pretty much negates the quote from Eric Geers. But it would be perfect.

If not for this TF movie, maybe the next one. It would certainly make an excellent choice for an updated Wheeljack.

And it'd be particularly awesome if they could come up with a transformation that incorporated the unique door-opening design as a starting point. It already looks like it's transforming.

Prime does not have to die, to me hot rod is just another autobot like Tracks, Trailbreaker, or Ultra mangus. Just because hot rod is around does not mean he has to become Rodimus. I never like Rodimus anyways better off without him.

Wheeljack would be great.

I'd like to see them use a lot of those first autobots.

I'm also tired of the Autobots getting their butts handed to them.
They do this in the new Animated series as well. The decepticons way out match them and the Autobots end up prevailing with dumb luck or human intervention.
In the first movie Prime does nothing to Megatron.
Bonecrusher.. now that was cool.

I'm not saying the Autobots should be dominant, but more even footing would be cool.

I know this will be hard to believe but i think I saw that in one of the trailers in Bethlehem. AS I was walking up at 2 AM there was a side door of a trailer open and I could see three cars. The were stacke up front, the one on the lower deck was a Saturn 4 DR and the upper level was a Impulse Blue GTO, which I got stuck staring at since I have 2 2004 GTO's. This one was an 05 or 06 LS2 car. On the lower left of the opening I could see the third front end yet the outside light wasn't lighting it up enough. And he didn't turn the inside lights on. At first I thougt Audi R8 but didn't have the LED fogs. I couldn't make out the emblem either, as soon I went to take a photo the driver shut the door. So believe what it's worth, but seeing this car it resembles what I saw including the emblem in the grill.

Please, for the love of Primus let this be Wheeljack, I cannot stress this enough.

Sigh, I wish they woulda gone with Fiat instead of Saab. I just want to pry the right's from GM's cold dead hands already. Ugh. It doesn't make sense to only limit yourselves to only GM brands. I can't believe Hasbro is allowing this as it could alienate so many people who like cars from other brands - Ford, Chrysler, Toyota, Honda, BMW, etc. Oh well, at least they are at least going beyond a Camaro and Pontiac and Hummer to now Corvette, Saab, and who knows what?

After reading the rumor that the Saab won't be used because it will be in GI Joe instead, there is hope that it could still be a Fiat! Fiat was the one who initially owned Lancia, so Wheeljack can still be an awesome Fiat model.

yeah.. I don't need any of them being true to original. Thus far.. I haven't disliked any of the transformers. I thought prime and ironhide looked great, they just need to kick more butt.

Dude if this info is true then I am a very happy man. Wheeljack rules! I have always loved his character in G1 and I think this car would fit him nicely as an alt mode. Let's hope Wheeljack gets to do some cool inventing in TF2!

Given the history of Saab automaking and the similarity of the overall design to G1 Wheeljack, it almost seems too good to be true. Nevertheless, I am hoping it is.

I hope the robot is similarly representative. Since he has a mouthplate we might actually get a decent representation of the G1 'bot as well. Although it always struck me as odd that robot lips were considered such a no-no... until they stuck them on the only character that didn't them. Made almost as much sense as their logic behind not having a spacecraft - they must think that cars don't use Ferry's to cross oceans. What a wonderful world they live in

Yes, I agree. Especially, since this car has the wrap-around windshield just like Wheeljack's G-1 incarnation. Now, if only they can modify it to give it Wheeljack's original paintjob (wishful thinking, I know).

Also, looks like there may be more Autobots than we thought (a la what Orci said in an interview), and if so, COOL!!! Check out transformerslive dot blogspot dot com as there is a scene being filmed in a park with Sam and a HUGE load of Autobots - there's even one that (in car mode) has a body similar to a Toyota RAV 4 SUV. Can't wait to see the designs!!! Oh how I'd love to be a fly on the wall at ILM for a day to see the designs and the animated pre-vises. WOW!!!!!

I saw it yesterday... or at least what I'm pretty sure it was the saab. They were filming it along with the camaro and the semi on kelley drive by the river.

I saw that car at L.A Auto Show 2 yrs ago. That car was the best Concept car there.

Wow. That car would be awesome for anyone. If it is Wheeljack even better. As much as I'd love to see the original paint job, it would make no sense. Racing stripes on a street car doesn't exactly scream 'robot in disguise'....

That is a sexy peice of machinery. Too bad it's wasted on an Autobot.

I hope it's true. This vehicle mode for Wheeljack has my full approval. The wrap-around windshield is very true to G1 Wheeljack.

Not just a wrap around windshield, but the top opens up kinda like G1 Wheeljack's did, so it really is a good match. IE: the windshield and roof lift up and forward to let the occupants in, versus up/backwards on the toy.
