Rumor: Revenge of the Fallen Devastator Gestalt Toy Information lh
2005 Boards member S250, who has consitently provided accurate information to the site, reports meeting with a local agent in Asia who had some information regarding the Devastator Gestalt toy for the Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen line. According to this local agent, the Devastator gestalt will feature a robot that combines with transformable construction vehicles that have no robot mode to form the giant, combined robot. This type of combination would be similar to that used by Energon Optimus Prime in the past. The local agent also said that each component of Devastator would receive a Deluxe-class version that could transform from vehicle to robot but does not combine with the other components. If true, it looks like collectors will have the choice of collecting a gestalt and/or collecting the individual components of Devastator.

I may just pick one of the two to get but not both.
Exactly.

This new info still doesn't clear up the matter of separate toys for the gestalt with drones and individuals with robot and alt modes but do not combine. It could simply mean that they transform individually in the movie as well as combine.

I think it would be really cool for the 7th member to have a gun alt, similar to the Seacons. Even better if they reformatted Scorponok into this new drone. He's been so lonely since Blackout got killed.

As for the toy possibilities, Devastator was probably going to be the only toy(s) I was going to buy from this line, I may end up getting both sets anyway. I'm such a sucker for combiners, that way. Although, I'm still debating the whole Prime/Jetfire set.

But Superpants keeps staring at me....

Yeah 'ol Mix is my favorite too, his Animated character as well.
salmonman78:
Okay, I am confused now.

So we're getting deluxes with robot-vehicle scheme. And now the gestalt will have a somewhat of a robot mode???

I withhold further comments until I can make sense.
Paxtin:
That's kind of funny, cause just a few days ago, I got to thinking that if you put Mixmaster on the top, you could probably hide the gestalt head in the mixer, rather then having the head as an extra piece you have to set aside when he's not combined.
Of course then you kind of get a cone-headed Devastator, depending on how they do it.
Ephland:
So both arms are yellow, both "shoulders" are red, a beige leg and a green leg, and a white "head". Kind of busy, but I can't even imagine how big this will look onscreen.

I don't think the colors will match the pics we have of the vehicles. Those are just examples to give us the idea what each will look like, size, ect.

Good point. As for the combo, I'm getting a Liokaiser/Landcross vibe from it.
[Wing_Saber-X]:
Wow, more cool peices of info! Devastator = going to f***ing KILLZ some serious autobots'..

Me Devestator = the shitz im big and an angry killa bot!!

Eh, maybe the news of non-tfing drones is just nisinformation campaign to put us off...hehe u Never know!
Torque:
Mixmaster is the head? maybe its hidden in the drum, ya know?
Bumblethumper:
Since nothing is mentioned about the torso, perhaps it is made of 'drone' vehicles.

I was thinking about this, and maybe it's like there's 6 Constructicons (like there always was), but to form Devastator, they sort of comandeer nearby vehicles to assume additional bulk for a once-off showdown.

Could be cool.

I'm also guessing he could have gorilla-like proportions, since the arms are each made up of 2 vehicles. But not necessarily, as it's always possible the leg vehicles could be massive. These things come in all sizes and shapes.

If he were somewhat gorilla shaped, it'd probably work well for a Kong style rampage.
Lookout:
well this is just down right dissapointin'! In my opinion, it's a scam that they didn't just make a powerlinx/ scramble city style combiner out of 7 deluxe/ scout sized toys? it would be less cost efficient though... gah. damn tootin' shame.
alanyap:
My 2 cents:

From all the past toys hasbro/takara made... their complexity and all. I'm sure cranking up a gestalt toy with fully transformable limbs, movie-centric... is possible. its a matter of how they gonna compromise on lets say.. the individual robot's built/proportion. Hell we've seen single movie toy that transform into only ONE MODE, that looks more like a gorilla than a well proportioned robot.

Hasbro just wanna milk us dry by producing 2 different sets of toys. I bet many of us will buy both variation (and in many quantities too).

Well the only good thing about this is, there's a better chance the gestalt toy would have bettter proportion as a combiner since he only consist of individual drones. And hopefully the deluxe version of all combiner members would look good in their robot modes.
Torque:
what are thoughts on Scale? because for a movie-style combiner to work, all the toys would need to be in scale with eachother-unless in the movie they're all out of scale as well.
iceburn9:
Well, Devastator and the Constructicons being my favourite ever TF's .. regardless of how the toys turn out, i'll be buying the entire lot of them.

I'm only hoping the gestalt will be have a more humanoid-proportion, rather than a ape-like build such as Starscream. (Previous rumors mentioned Devastator having lots of upper-body strenght, which makes an ape-build a possibility)

Only time will tell, looking forward to seeing it ..
DecepticusPrime:
So what I am wondering, since the name devestator was already used in the first movie, is that point going to be ignored or is the big boy getting a new combined name?
Optimus Crab:
Good news for me. Combiners almost always suck when they try to shoehorn all the modes into tiny figures. Kibble city. I'd rather just grab a good Devastator and skip the little drones than get a crappy Devastator that can transform into five or six crappy robots with crappy vehicle modes.

Count my ass in for this one.

Personally I would've thought they could've fixed that for the dvd release. It was about as easy a change as you can get, and probably the simplest solution.

Or they could come up with some convoluted story point to tie the two together... like maybe Brawl 'Devastator' was torn apart, but some pieces were left behind with some sort of cosmic allspark energy that goes on to infect some vehicles on a construction site...

Or, who says 2 separate bots can't have the same name, like how you can have 2 dudes named John without them being the same guy.
Squints:
I'd guess we're looking at something like this:

(Updated from my previous sketch; the head would also be part of the mixer, obviously.)

Explain it away with a throwaway line about how any high-powered Decepticon with the ability to take out a whole battalion is given the title "Devastator" as a mark of honour and make mention of the fact Brawl was so proud of earning the title he adopted it as his own name.
a person:
Now that I've thought about it, this news does not bother me at all. Sure, Hasbro could make Deluxe combiners if they really wanted to but it would end up costing Hasbro far too much time and money to make each individual mold as movie accurate as possible in robot, vehicle and combined mode.

The toys will also most likely need to be scaled up to at least Voyager scale, and the toys will cost far to much for Hasbro's target audience - kids. Having seven Voyager Constructicons in one line will also prevent us from having Voyager molds of other characters.

The movie toys have to cheat with transformations in the first place to get the robot to look even slightly movie accurate, so adding a third mode, or in this case a third mode for several characters that also need to be able to combine with eachother will just give Hasbro even more problems than they already had.

I figure Brawl just has delusions of grandeur, and the Decepticons were too busy to call him on it. (the ultra-extra-secret-directors cut shows Barricade rolling his eyes after "Devastator" reports in though.)

Sure you can. Just imagine a scrap pile of parts in a junkyard standing up, or (better yet) what a bunch of Transformers thrown into a blender would look like standing up.

I think that borders on the general definition of trolling, dude. You're trying to get an emotional response out of somebody who likes the movie designs while you laugh at them for taking the bait.
aprim:
It may not look like you want it to, but it will look good.
Scottimus:
ya know with all this talk about how big Devastator is and how massive "the Fallen" character is gonna be, PLUS with all these pictures of Bay shooting all these airplanes on that aircraft carrier, i am just SMELLING the high probability we will see SUPERION appear to help defend the autobots. Total possibility. Bay LOVES fighter planes. Superion - i'm banking on it.
Torque:
hmm, think they'll even name Devastator in the movie? cause if they dont name him in the movie, that clears up the problems with Double Names and then the toy can be called Devastator. problem solved, right?

I don't consider the name reuse error a problem that won't be simply disregarded. Remember, this is the guy who made Armageddon. The DaVinci Code it ain't.

Could be. After all, Brawl is only "Devastator" thanks to one subtitle.
soundwaveCA:
Not very encouraging, not counting Devy out just yet but not looking good.
Malunis_T:
Geez. Why does every prediction/fear I have for the new movie toyline come true? o_o;

It might not be a case of Energon Prime, to be optimistic. The constructicon we see on the recent news article looks like more than a limb or torso, and I can see it totally having a robot mode, so it's possible they can all fully transform as well as combine.

Here's hopin'?
AMG:
Well after reading the whole thread, I'm pleased with the happy ending. Good to hear that 6 out of 7 will have bot modes after all.

Ok, I never did see this information. Seems kinda odd that one bot wouldn't have a bot-mode of it's own. I'll have to google Truss Crane to see which one that is. I hope that all 7 of them have bot-modes, but I'll take whatever I can get. Would be cool if the one that doesn't have a bot-mode could easily be kitbashed to contain a bot-mode of it's own, but also retain it's other modes.

Edit: Ok, it's this thing: http://www.kobelcocranesnorthamerica...ages/CK850.gif

So that almost confirms that the one we've seen to pictures of will more than likely have it's own bot-mode.
Insane Galvatron:
It is said the limb bots will have non-combining deluxes with robot modes. That is most likely what we saw in the new pics. It does not in any way disprove the notion that there will be a drones type combiner.

Zombie thread!!!!!!!!

S250, the one who brought us the info about the "drone combiner parts" himself has disproved it. According to his last post on the subject, all but 1 of the bots that combine have their own individual bot-modes.

Oh, ok. I missed the last line on there. Or rather, I mis-read it.

But why give them all bot modes but one?
Torque:
hmm, im not sure what to think about that setup, esp. with the new picks that are out, though its hard to tell anything from them. but we've heard that the cement truck is part of the chest, so it messes with the setup posted above

Not sure, which is why I think that all seven of them might actually have their own bot-modes.

Not really. I've been thinking about it and the list S250 made doesn't really list any one of them as being the torso, so I think the torso is a combination of the shoulders and the "head". I honestly don't think the entire cement mixer is going to only turn into his head. That and the only part of the cement mixer that is supposed to be in the torso is the mixing barrel. I could easily see the rest of the truck making up the head and neck.
misternoodle:
what a gyp. you have to buy 2 sets of figure/design to 'complete' the group lame
Blackout:
It won't be so bad if one of Devastator's parts is a bot with nice transformation. Still disappointing though.

On a side note... I bet Devastator will transform behind a building in the movie so we won't get to see much of it. That would suck right there.

Seriously? Devastator combining would be the money shot of the whole movie. I'm pretty sure we will see it onscreen.
