 | | | Roberto Orci Talks About Transformers Revenge of the Fallen | | Posted on 07-15-2008 at 04:32 PM by Sol Fury | Speaking to Sci Fi Wire, Transformers 2 co-writer Roberto Orci commented on some of the developments in the new film.
"It's got a little more of a sci-fi element. ... The bad guys are little more coherent in terms of what their plan is and what they're attempting to do. So it feels like more of a sci-fi battle."
Mr Orci goes on to say in the article that fan-favorite Soundwave will definitely be showing up (without giving anything else away) and that there will more than likely be fewer humans compared to the first movie. He also suggests that if you liked the first movie, you'll like this one, but if you were a fan who felt left out by the first movie, this might be more for you.

Sounds promising in a non-committal kind of way!
Megatronwp38:
Sounds very promising to me! Can't wait!
Poho: SPOILER ALERT. SPOILER ALERT Quote: |

"We'll see." | Uhm...I think we're 100% sure that Arcee is in the movie. Call sheet...talk of redesign...motorcycle pictures with female rider...yeah she's definitely in it. Quote: |

It's unclear whether he will transform into a tape deck, as in previous incarnations, or into something else. | I don't think he'll be a tape deck. There's just no way.
Razorbeast:
Yay, I just can't wait to see the 'bots back on the big screen!!!
*spazzes to death*
SmokescreenGT:
Soundwave will transform into something cool, I'm sure. It definitely won't be a tape deck. Some kind of military sound weapon or communications vehicle would be my best guesses.
Indiancowboy:
I was wondering if soundwave might be one of those mobile broadcast stations you used to see FM stations use to go live from location. The ones that look like giant boomboxes. Silly, but the only way to be anywhere near true to original soundwave. Giant cassettes would look silly though.
General Tekno:
My money's on some sort of military SUV or something for Soundwave.
Dropshot:
More sci-fi, less humans?! Best new ever!!!
Also, I bet jetifure from the casting sheets will end up being soundwave.
airfox:
Very good interview. I liked the bit about:
- If you liked the first, you'll like the second.
- If you were a TF fan who felt a little left out by the first, then the second will be more for you.

ActionMasterZod:
If sci-fi = more serious and less of bumblebee peeing on people I'm all for it.

DeceptiKreep:
"the bad guys are a little more coherent" .... think this just means that the Decepticons will actually speak this time around!
And hard to believe there are going to be less humans, or less human involvement, with seeing all the casting thats we've seen.
Thanks for posting!
Incepticon:
Crazy, Orci upselling his latest project and giving more vague statements to create excitement & anticipation? How completely unpredictable. Good thing he didn't do that sort of thing and completely under-deliver on every level with the first movie.
vektsilver:
Well this news is encouraging. I will be optimistic based on the description cause I'd love to have a more engaging movie. Especially if most of the focus is on the transformers themselves shroobmaster:
Good news, now about Soundwave, maybe he'll be a Cybertronian vehicle?
AutobotMarine:
More Transformer focuse on the sequel? Less humans? Friggin awesome! I can't wait now!
Waveride:
Guys, huge news...filming never stopped!
I asked Roberto Orci on Don's forum when filming was to resume and got this surprising answer: Quote:

I think this should be spread guys, get the word out because the general consesus is that they aren't filming anymore.

Waveride:
Not according to a few sites out there claiming they are on hault in watch of the strike...

Ash from Carolina:
I like that Orci is way nicer to the fans than fans are to each other. None of the if you weren't happy get lost, no we have Joe Public we don't need you, no the money is all that mattered. Instead he finds a nice way to say hey if you were happy the first time we have more of the stuff that made you happy, but we are still working hard to make even more fans happy. Got to admire an artist that still thinks it's important to see if they can't go one better for the fans.
When it comes to fan interaction Orci is the man.
Xformermike:
He's got my attention. I wasn't that excited for the second one after seeing the first one; I expected the same sort of stuff. The fact that he says they are making it a bit more of a sci fi, and focusing less on humans is awesome news for me. (Considering it's a SCI FI genre this is... you know... good...)
Now all I need to hear is that the Transformers characters themselves will be written with interesting character traits and have interesting character conflicts...... I mean... Have two autobots that argue and don't get along. Whatever, something simple. Have two decepticons that crack jokes behind starscreams back, or megs? Reveal something shocking about a transformers past? ... Maybe one is going through menapause and can't handle a simple yes or no question from her husband? (Clarification.. Im joking about the menupause thing... yes I do have to write this for some people..) I dunno. Just something more rounded and a little less 1 dimensional; something to get us wondering "what exactly is going on between those two... Why do they hate each other? Why is that character acting like that towards that character..." etc etc... thought provoking characters....maybe draw inspiration from characters you've loved in the past that have NOTHING to do with transformers. Gimme something to chew on while michael bays is spending too much time on redundant explosions and making me bored... Give us something new.... was screamer an autobot before? Is screamer actually a good guy just trying to dethrone megs and lead the decepticons into turmoil? (obviously don't do that... but something that would give a similar more acceptable reaction from the fans.... a surprise!) At least I can try and figure it out while Bays doing actions shots that I can't tell what's going on in and therefore loose interest. Just write them as a human character first if ya want and then change it to a transformer! Haha, if you can't wrap your head around what a transformers character would be like that is...................... you get the point... something fun would be a duel side playing bounty hunter... haha a likable character whose torn on who he is. Anyways I expect way too much. Those are just examples of the types of things I'd like to see to make the story interesting, just writing shit off the top of my head nothing to be taken too seriously.. Hey, maybe something is found during an anthopological dig that hints at the Beastwars that happened long ago on earth? Easter egg. Possibilities, and fan wet dreams. Hahaha... But the G1 universe spans from g1-BW/BM, so it would be interesting if something happened to make that true here too. Anyways, that's silly.
Change of tune... This is definitely awesome news though! Oh yeah, and work on your pacing, TF1 lagged a quite a bit. Some scenes weren't funny or weren't good enough to be as long as they were.
