Posting on the Don Murphy forums, Roberto Orci states that himself and Alex Kurtzman, the writing duo who gave us 2007’s Transformers Movie and this year’s upcoming Revenge of the Fallen will likely not be returning to write a third movie. Roberto cites a need for “fresh blood”, and also that:
the main reason we would move on is because we risk getting stale and comfortable. If you only sing one song for too long, you miss the opportunity to sing news songs. We’ll see.

Of course if Simon Furman wrote the next one you can be sure it would have Dinobots and Unicron in it.

NNOooooo my friend. Fuck that. Simon Furman (my past favorite transformers writer) is too formula driven and repetitive now.. If I see "So much for sublety!" one more time I'll fly to england and punch him in the head.

5 Words: Marty Isenberg… and Simon Furman. The yin and the yang of TF writing, working together. Checks and balances and such.

Personally, I would consider them fans if they stayed committed to it, and stopped pulling this 'we're not going to write the next' BS regardless of reason.
But if they really do leave, and Bay doesn't direct (even if Ratner takes his place – that's how much I dislike Bay's work), and Welker gets a role in that one, too…it might tip my balance toward 'see it'.

If they don't return, then we need to get Jonathan Nolan and Christopher Nolan to write script for TF3…
Nachtsider
My point precisely. Let him re-write/re-invent the whole thing.
hailgalvatron
what if they just left the story out. Made like 2 hours of robots transforming and blowing things up. this seems to be what everyone would like. Every robot in the TF universe could also be depicted in these two hours . I Like the writing team, it's the new designs that are bothering me in ROTF. IF we made TF3 just 2 hours of robots, it would be 2 hours of unicycle transformers combining into a multi-colored mess. I am hoping the writing saves ROTF somewhat.

LOL, your script drawn in crayons will still be 1000 times better than what they can spit out. Looking forward to it.
ANDROID PRIME
stupid dyslexia, thank god for spell check. actually my script would just be pictures drawn in crayons and explosion noises. bay's gonna love it.
Baccala1976
Try and keep the type-o's to a minimum in the script.

lol…these guys sucked..
Jetfire's cane said so.
Can't wait to see TF2,
Another Egyptian Pyramid mystery. Because we haven’t seen that one before..lol
O well, I can always look forward to an old Jetfire, and a new villain I could care less about.
These guys are such BIG fans the only villain they know is Megatron..so they have to invent a new one for TF2
No Bludgeon, no Thunderwing, nobody else to bring to life on screen. .
Give me a break guys, its there job to write, if they get paid to write a movie about Heathcliff they would be fans of him too.
ANDROID PRIME
ok, ok, Ill wirte it.
hopefully TF2 ends without anysort of cliffhanger, and thats it. we dont need any more of those transformers.
Give it a few years and reboot it with a real plot and designs that dont make me ashamed to be a transfan.
Baccala1976
Sorry but this makes me very happy if they do decide to leave. I'm not that high on the second movie as it is because they are introducing the combination of Prime and Jetfire and this just screams lame A/E/C to me.

I heard he really doesn't like the live-action movie continuity, though. He said on his blog that the best response he got for AHM was some dude telling him "[AHM] was like getting his money back from the movie".

well, hell. Depending on how much liberties they took w/ the TF mythos & characterizations of characters – could be good or bad to get new blood.
I personally feel that even w/ the bad parts, TF1 could've been a *LOT* worse if 2 fans hadn't been writing it. So color me anxious.
bellpeppers
Kinda disagree… it can be worse. Think "League of Extraordinary Gentlemen" or "Catwoman".
Orci and Kurtzman proved themselves to me with MI3. Or was it just a fluke? Time will tell with TF2, and we'll see if a rabbit was pulled out of a hat for Star Trek… or an albatross.
Online, they come across as "screw the fans" prickish and only love fans and consider people fans if they like TF1 or agree with them on everything… however, my buddy has seen them in person and assures me that the internet seems to interfere with how good these guys may really be.
However, as long as you know that Optimus Prime shops on EBAY when he stumbles upon a low resolution picture of glasses and knows the full story behind them, then yes- you know that better can be achieved.

I guess the thing is that no matter who they get as writers it's still going to be a Micheal Bay film and while the guy can pull off some fantastic explosions he's not one of those directors who are know as a great story teller. So even if you did have a time machine you could use to gather history's greatest writers it really wouldn't do any good because Bay is going to do his thing. Seems like good writing would just be wasted if the director can't handle story and character.
If the director's chair ever changes hands then a change of writers might be a big deal.
Plus can you really blame the guys for moving on when Paramount wants one date and Bay wants another date. Do you keep yourself free for when ever the dust gets settled about a date or do you keep your options open for other movies or TV shows?
firehawc_69
Yeah, till the next douchebag decides to go and kill off Prime again and ruin the whole thing for everyone…

Personally, I found Orci and Kurtzman both to be exceptionally decent people. They were good sports at BotCon and genuinely nice guys who were happy to talk with us geeks. And I give them props for making themselves accessible to fans via forums.
As far as their scripting for Transformers, I have some mixed opinions. The first movie did have some witty moments. Sam's "ride you home" line to Mikaela still cracks me up every time I see it. And the whole sequence at the car dealership was pretty funny. But, I was among the people that found myself groaning during the urination and masturbation jokes. And the Sector 7 stuff just got a little silly.
I am kinda curious to see their work in TF 2. For the most part, I don't care for the movieverse, but Orci and Kurtzman seem to be a good match for it. And other people really enjoy what they've done so far.
Xformermike
here are my thoughts on that…
Just based on my views of the first movie I'm thinking to myself.. "Good; that's fucking awesome." But these guys listen to the fans, and that really counts to me… So, it's kind of sad too.
Who knows? Maybe they will get the next movie right; get a really good feeling for transformers… and then we'll be begging 'em to stay!
However… replace a hollywood writer with a hollywood writer……………what's the difference man? Most of them write the same, …cliche. Very few stand out… chances are it will make little difference.
More importantly… While we're on the subject of replacing people… Replace Michael Bay with a more creative director. He wants time off anyways. Right? He's the MAIN problem to me… brainless & typical directing bores the hell out of me… He isn't the king of blowing things up/action, he's the king of making things typical and stagnant…… he's too comfortable in his directing style, it's just very boring. No harm meant to your feelings bay… I just don't like your stuff at all; it's not my style. I'm sure other people dig it though… I has mass appeal for sure……..
