 | | | Ramon Rodriguez to Return for Transformers 3 | | Posted on 06-30-2009 at 09:54 AM by Tim Formas | | According to an article on Ramon Rodriguez in the Los Angeles Times, current plans for the third Transformers movie include Ramon Rodriguez's Leonardo Ponce De Leon Spitz (Leo Spitz). Per the article, director Michael Bay imagines a much "meatier" role for the character of Leo in the third movie. Transformers 3 is currently scheduled by Paramount to hit theatres on July 1, 2011, although Michael Bay is seeking a 2012 release.

So, when and if Orci is on board and continues answering questions in this forum perhaps we should ask him why in a movie titled TRANSFORMERS do they continue to showcase and put so much focus on the friggin' humans.
Jingoku:
I don't mind seeing humans, as long as they have decent roles. I wouldn't mind seeing Lennox and Epps interact with the Autobots. They are a team after all. But I can do without Simmons and Leo.
Autobotknight08:
Hmm not the awesomest character in the movie. But he grew a pair at the end when he rode with Simmons so might not be to bad. Do we know if Josh and Tyrese are coming back? I dont remember if they signed on for as many as Sam or not.
rodster6:
Ohhhh no. Not only will another pointless unfunny comedy character be back but they want to rush another film out in just two years time.
Jingoku:
Useful characters should return, like Rachael Taylor as Maggie Madsen and Michael O'Neill as Tom Banacheck.

Because virtually nobody wants to watch a movie that is 100% about big bots, or a big boat, or a non-transforming robot with nobody to terminate.

They aren't just quite killing machines like a Terminator or an Alien, they are individuals with personalities.

It gets as simple as that. But I'm not suggesting they should make a Movie with no humans, but unlike something like Terminator and Aliens, the Transformer franchise could pull it off.

Originally Posted by 03Mach1 But without the humans and Earth related despair, why would the audience care what two factions of waring robots do to each other? | Hmm, because that's the point of both films so far? When people bought tickets to Transformers I'm guessing 99.9% of them bought it to see ROBOTS. None of the movies you listed could have the title characters carry the film for longer than three seconds. Plus those films you listed involved stories that directly related to at least one human being the central character of the film. Matrix is nothing without Neo. Terminator is nothing without a Connor. Transformers doesn't need a human to be a central part of the story, they should be secondary characters at best. Unfortunately in these movies the Transformers take a back seat.
Like I said, it's called Transformers, not Sam Witwicky.
Dankir:
OMFG are you serious?? He was so fucking annoying in ROTF. Why didn't die when was tasered!!! All he did was cry like a little bitch.... ugh.
GreenChick:
They're bringing the creep back? Sounds about right.

Whippy Skippy. Yawn. Pass the popcorn please.

ugh. Why? What a waste.

I'm not generally a Bayformers hater, and I can live with a certain amount of stupid humor in the movies, but this character was just useless.
Bay, Orci, Kurtzman..... please..... for the love of God, don't put this guy in TF3. Every non-Transfan I went to ROTF with hated Leo, and wanted to see more robots. I know the silly humor is in there for the kids, but this guy was just not funny, and was a real waste of time. The robots in TF2 were had much more character, and overall much better than TF1. I think you could really reinvent the genre if you went a step further, and made the next movie more about the Transformers. You've got everyone hooked, now is your chance to really give it to them.
More wide shots, slow-mo and generally clarity of robot action would great too.

bay is really fing it up, PLZ have a damn story this time

Hopefully one of the bots step on him. Thanks for your 2 minute role. Take care.
Chris McFeely:
Sounds good to me. Liked the actor, found the character funny, even if he didn't do very much. In many ways, it's like Simmons was in the first movie - like the actor, found the character amusing, but his more annoying aspects sort of overrode that. I wound up liking Simmons A LOT in ROTF, so if TF3 can do for Leo what ROTF did for Simmons, yeah, bring it on.
TRANS+CRAZY:
Shocking... didn't think the Leo character was going to stick around after ROTF.
Black Oracle:
Well i guess it really wud be pointless to introduce a new main character in ROTF and not find a way to develop him in the next movie. Maybe they'll have Leo using his tech skills to aid NEST next.
tfan123:
Sweet. Maybe he could try to hit on Mikaela, and she kicks him in the nuts
[Wing_Saber-X]:
The hell..... i want more ROBOTS. Dammnit.

Like Rachael Taylor's character, Maggie Madsen. Hell, I'd even rather see Anthony Anderson return as Glen Whitmann, the super hacker. Keep that Leo character away.
Xformermike:
typical we hear nothing about the transformers who are supposed to be the main characters... but hear about some guy who got in on the second movie and had no point.
Yeah, seems normal to me.
Why bother making a third one anyways? The second was shit and showed me what to expect for the third anyways. More garbage.
With bay at the helm these might as well not even be called Transformers... It's just not really about them and it never really was centered on them in the first place! They don't even know what the transformers are going to be saying until weeks before the fucking film, gimme a break, they are just there in the background, it's more like Sam & Mikela's Teen Adventure Fun time than it is anything to do with transformers........... bleh... third film? Like I give a fuck at this point.

Ugh.... | It's OK. They're major super duper successes at the box office, that's all that matters to me.
SilverDragon:
Okay, I didn't really like him all that much, but I'm not completely oposed to this.

thats good ol McDoucheBay for ya..always with the bright ideas...seriously is it possible to give more screen to the worst characters? I thought they accomplished that in TF2...guess I was wrong..Bay should just put himself in front of the cam he would save a lot of money....you know a lot of celebrities have been croaking lately...maybe Bay will have a heart explosion before the next one...how old is he again....

We don't need any more comic relief. The Movies are full of it already. The stupid and juvenile humor needs to be dialed down. A lot. The first Movie was fun and had just the right amount of humor, with only Bumblebee's peeing being out of place. Why must almost every scene, that doesn't feature Transformers fight, be filled with comic relief?
Bay, next time more "The Rock", less "Bad Boys 2". | Just like a lot of hatrs to the films. Bay doesn't write any of the dialogue or the jokes. HE DOES THE SHOOTING. In my opinion Bay does an epic job. if you must blame someone for write very funny humor which isn't way too out of place like lots of other movies then blame the writers. and I think Ramon was very funny in this film. The one where he tasers himself in the nads is epic funny.

Drakonus:
I thought his character added nothing to the movie. I'm impartial to him returning or not.
I still liked ROTF but it was lacking something the first movie had. I agree that the teen humor was poured on rather thick in the movie and hopefully they tone that down. It would be nice with their big budget to show more of the current transformers on screen and develop their personalities instead of bringing on a multitude of decepticons we see on screen for a few seconds.
ManiactoaLaco:
He's okay. However, more robots would be much better. 20 minutes of humans at the most!

That's right.
2nd best 5-day opening in the history of movies ever kthx.
Michael Bay gave us more robots this time. And I felt disappointed with that much screen-time for the robots. As in, I don't think he knew what to do with them, so he just made them fight every single scene they were in. If that's the case, then I'm all for having more Sam, Mikaela, and Leo.
Though, if Leo would get the nickname "Chip", that'd be so much cooler | What does how much money it made really have to do with how good of a movie it is? Lots of bad movies had great box office turn outs. Lots of bad rappers have made millions of $. Plus the money made in the first week is the worst indicator, people haven't seen the movie yet, so they don't know how good it will be going into it.
Appealing to the masses (aka lowest common denominator) quite simply is ~= to any sort of indicator of a 'good' movie. And even much of the masses has dissed ROTF hard after seeing it.
And on the second point, something they obviously could have done with that increased robot screen-time is...um...build character. As there was none (save developing Megs as a diaper-toting sissy-pants). They could have cut every single autobot save Prime and BB and it wouldn't have made a difference. But that's a word Bay, Orci, etc. still haven't learned the meaning of.

It's like that Simpsons episode featuring The Critic, where Homer loves the 'football hits groin' clip, and as a viewer everyone laughs both times they show it. Only then it is a satire critiquing society for finding such low-brow humor more entertaining than real film.

I didn't mind Leo too much and thought he was funny at some moments, but if he gets more screen time/characterization, it means someone else loses it, most likely a transformer Starscreamer95: Quote:
