Optimus Prime to Combine with Jetfire in TF2

But Prime has been combining with things since before G1.

I think this could be a toy-only gimmick; look at the way Voyager Blackout and Deluxe Scorponok from the first movie combined - they certainly didn't do THAT in the film!

I don't like the idea of Prime and Jetfire. It cheapens the idea of combiners.

It's okay for a cartoon, but not a "real" movie... Up to this point, I've been pretty happy with everything else I've heard about ROTF.

If this ends up being true, as lone as there's no cheap, stupid sex joke is cracked when they do combine I'll be fine with it.

This is, I guess. Both my answer to the scale question (though its more reasonable to assume Prime becomes the chest and Jetfire forms everything else) and if combination is awesome enough.

Because its pretty DAMN awesome. I, for one wellcome GATTAI into TF:ROTF with open arms.

Sam will use his Allspark powers to merge Prime and Jetfire.

Then again, I'm sure they could just reformat together in any way they liked, merged without any part of the final whole looking like it came from either one of them. Actually, that's how I envision Devastator (or whatever he'll be called) combining - a mass of reformatting parts that end up looking nothing like the component robots it was made from.
And no need for him to un-combine later because he'll probably be destroyed very quickly (also by Sam's new Allspark powers).

Only one combiner will accept : Devastator( though Bruticus and Superion could come in future sequels ,but seems on this one we get Devastator) !!! Through out the last 2 of the 4 TFs anime show (shown in the U.S.) Prime combines with other bots or power ups and I'm sick of it !! Don't like the idea and I hope I don't see it through out the movie.

Sounds like a homage to Armada/Superlink with Jet Convoy/Jet Optimus. It should be interesting, I just hope this gimmick won't hinder the toy in any way if Hasbro makes them able to combine.

I am not particularily fond of this idea at all......it seems as though each movie will get its own 'gimmick' now. Yes combiners make up a decent part of the transformers universe but I'm just afraid TF2 is going to be all about them....'Devastator is combining! the only way to defeat him is to combine too! gimmicks awayyyyy!'

Watch, TF3 will be all about the Triple Changers.....Bumblebee will probably get a third 'bee' mode..

If it's just a Toy gimmick, then I'd be quite chuffed to get a new combiner. the info has apparently come through Hasbro so it may not be in the movie.

If we assume that the big movie leaks are correct then I'm perfectly happy with a decepticon combiner i.e. "Devastator" an Arcee Combiner too and the Ice Cream truck. BUT... too many of the same gimmicks in the Movie is pushing it a bit. I'm still not convinced on the bringing Megatron back idea. unless it's done in the last few minutes of the film as either the end of a major plot line (e.g decepticons spend the entire movie rebuilding him and finally switch him on at the end) or as a prelude to the next movie, something like 'The Fallen' is defeated so Unicron reactivates Megatron/Galvatron to take 'The Fallens' place

It could still work. Think about it, if Jetfire is going to be huge relative to Optimus (at least in terms of mass), that would make a great armor-type mode, which would be an interesting homage to most of Optimus' Unicron Trilogy combinations (though, ironically, not his combination with Jetfire).

That's the magic word, 'if executed right'.
Of course if executed right, anything can look great. But if they couldn't execute the entire first movie right, I seriously doubt Jetpants Prime would be done correctly.

I don't really like this idea .... Optimus is a stand alone character. Should not be combining with anyone.

I agree, or any other clothing type combos. If Jetfire combines with Optimus, make it some sort of armor that covers his whole body.

Sounds interesting. Personally I don't have a problem with it, but a more unique idea would have been even more interesting. Good news all around as I plan on getting an Optimus Prime and a Jetfire out of this toy line anyways. It'll be a nice little gimmick for them. Hopefully the two Voyager, or Ultra, figures can combine, as I'd rather not buy two Leader class figures. Especially both being Autobots. The exposed cogs sounds nice too. Basically just more detail in robot-mode.

Ive never liked the idea of Optimus combining with anyone or anything; makes me think they de-value him and bring him down to Power Ranger level when they do that.

I would much rather prefer they use a trailer for Optimus, if he has to combine at all. But I will give them the benefit of the doubt, for now.

yeeesh, someone call the WHAAAAAmbulance. calm down people, did you ever think maybe prime wants to be able to fight flying decepticons on semi-even footing? combining with a jet seems like a decent way to get to do so without major permanent reconfiguration. maybe he LIKES turning into a truck and doesn't want to give it up to go up into the air and smack starscream upside the head, but REALLY wants to smack starscream upside the head.

Mind you, it helps that I'm a Gurren Lagann fan, where you can pretty much combine anything with anything.

My main concern isn't actually the execution in the movie, but the hobbling of the toys as a result.

i said it once and i will say it again for goodness sake no more robot combiners like armada. first time it was weird enough second it will be too much. the constructicons combining is really possible but optimus+jetfire that is a whole new level of weird.this most probably a rumor.

When I clicked on discuss this thread...I never expected such negativity. I can understand some having problems with Optimus Prime combining with something as we just met these characters...and they deserve more individual screen time. But on the other hand...maybe we shouldn't have been so vocal about getting a Decepticon combiner (Devastator) in the film. Honestly guys...unless you have another way of explaining how a truck and five or so dinky sports cars are going to take on Devstator, a revived Megatron, and possibly the Fallen...we are just going to have to accept that some Autobot is gonna have to get bigger...and what better way to increase size than to have Prime combine with the Blackbird?

Who knows, maybe it is just a gimmick for the toys...and who knows, maybe they just combine in vehicle mode as transport. Maybe the blackbird picks Optimus up and launches him like a missile at Devastator...who knows? We certainly won't until June 26th, 2009.

For me...the idea of Optimus Prime combining with Jetfire sounds awesome. As a huge fan of Armada...and what concepts it introduced and re-introduced to the series, I have to say kudos to Bay and crew for bringing in something non-G1...but still was technically in G1. If it makes you guys feel any better, think of Prime as one of those cassettes that combined with another cassette. Yeah...you liked it then...but when Armada brought it back, the weeping began.

We all recognize that the Armada cartoon was just plain...bad. It had animation problems, script problems...and hell, even the toys had problems...but that means nothing in a big budget movie. I'm sure they wouldn't randomly combine anything in the movie unless there was a need for it. Hell, what if none of the Autobots combined...that wouldn't make sense...how can the Decepticons do it, but not the Autobots...

How is Devastator combining "really possible," but Prime and Jetfire combining "weird"? That comment makes no sense. Combination is combination.

They are friggin robots for goodness sakes. We were OK with it in G1 when Cassettes combined, 5-way combiners, 6-way combiners, Duocons, robots combining with their "human" shells...I mean WTF?

This is gonna suck. I never liked the idea of Prime combining with another Autobot as it reeks of A/E/C and I never liked those lines to begin with. Prime merging with his trailer would be much better and have bit of a G1 feel to it.

I think it all sounds cool. These toys will be awesome. I can't wait to see that Megatron.

In my head it screams bad idea, but meh, I'll wait till I see it for myself. To me it only means the difference between buy and not buying the DVD. I'll watch the movie regardless to see how it turns out.

I'm a little disappointed when people talk about Armada Optimus's combination more than RID's.

Although even then it wasn't exactly a new concept.

I think the only reason people talk about Armada's combination moreso than RIDs combination is because of the transformation itself.

I'm a big fan of both...but I suppose its because RIDs is more of a part-explosion, with Prime's armor disconnecting and reconnecting in different ways and configurations...whereas Armada's combination was just two components transforming and combining.

Hell, I'd be happy with either in a live action movie, but I imagine a general audience with have more of a problem with the RID-style combination, wondering why parts are just floating mid-air.

D'oh! I really hope this is done properly. The thought of scale issues between a Blackbird and a semi-truck is blowing my mind. I think it'll be okay if Jetfire develops the technique as a way to compete with Devastator...but they'll have to do it right.

Team combiners like Devastator are cool. Always have been.

the only way I can see this working is something like if Jetfire gets his brains blown out and Optimus figures out a way to commandeer the giant body in order to defeat Devastator.

Combining toys don't necessarily equate to combing characters in the movie.
