New Videos of Chevrolet Autobots and Images From 2009 Chicago Auto Show bttrax
General Motors designer Stephen Gray has stopped by our 2005 Boards with a link to new footage of the Autobots using Chevrolet disguises in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. Three videos relating to Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen are currently availabe on GMtv: A design overview of the Corvette Stingray Concept used to portray Sideswipe, a time-lapse video of a 18-foot Bumblebee robot being put together at the 2009 Chicago Auto Show, and new footage of the Chevrolet Autobots with Optimus Prime and Ironhide from various locations used in the sequel that has been edited by Michael Bay himself.

Mr. Gray has also offered to answer any questions our site members may have regarding the General Motors designs, so feel free to stop by this thread on our 2005 Boards and ask away!

Autoblog also has 43 new pictures of the Chevrolet Autobots as they were being revealed today at the Chicago Auto Show, while Jalopnik has tons of images of the Sideswipe/Corvette Stingray Concept. That webpage also contains a press release confirming the names of the Autobots: Sideswipe (Corvette Concept), Skids (Beat/Spark), Mudflap (Trax), and Jolt (Volt)

Cars.com, meanwhile, has a new image of the Corvette Stringray Concept with the rarely sited Ratchet Hummer H2.

looks like those reports of Ratchet being dead in this movie are true.
benzo:
anyone know how I can download those videos?
Cinemastique:
Thanks for doing this, Stephen, and WELCOME! The new cars look great, and the footage is sweet. My question, which is similar to others, but has not yet been posed quite like this:

Is it a strict advertising decision which cars are used?

I'm one of those fans who's a little disappointed to see almost exclusively pre-run concept cars. The cars themselves look awesome, but they're almost as offbeat-looking in some ways as the robot modes. Not exactly what you'd expect for robots attempting to blend in!

My favorite 'Bots in TF1 were Prime and Classic Camaro Bumblebee, simply because of how much it aided the fantasy that they looked like cars I'd seen before on the highway.
SlayerDarkCross:
Thanks for the visiting the forums =) I have a few questions

Is the Transformer Camaro still a redressed Pontiac GTO?

If so is the design still influenced by Saleen?

Will the body kit on the Transformer Camaro be a factory option? (if not in the future?)

Will the Spark be sold in the US?

He is sighted at the end of the video and there is a pic of him in the desert
AnimatedFan:
Impressive, most impressive.

Thank you for taking the time to answer our questions and give us a bit of insight. Not too many would take the time from their busy schedule to deal with some geeks.

Those of you who do, are made of awesome.

And the video clip was a wonderful bonus.
Paradigm-Shift Prime:
Sideswipe looks so pimp!

I dunno about the twins though, they don't really have an appealing look and if it weren't for the marketability of those kinds of cars right now there's NO way they'd be in the movie.
jdre_124:
Loved that footage. It almost got me just as hyped as the trailer seeing all those Autobots traveling together.

Are you kidding? The footage he provided blew the teaser commercial out of the water.

This was awesome. The teaser (upon reflection) was not. At least not enough.
knownasx:
so cant wait for this already but one question where is ratchet?? or the hummer h2 ?? man ill be so pissed if they kill him off
saberconvoy:
Dang
That was pretty cool
huntervfx2:
I would also like to know if the movie stars (cars) will be on display for the whole week. I am going to plan on going this Sunday if they will be there.

my first post on these forums too, i always check them for movie news but never post.

Loved the video of the auto bots rolling out.
Anti Spark:
GM_Designer

1. Will fans of the new Camaro be able to order that skirt Package as a option including Rims Tires & Hood? (ROTF BB)

2. Is the Camaro used in this film a production version or the original Modified GTO?
DrLee:
Mr GM D....

Out of al of the GM vehicles in ROTF..... which one do you prefer? I'm torn between the Camero or the Vette.

Also, do you know if the claim that Bay was told to include the volt in the movie at the last minute is true or not?
VW decepticon:
will the set up be at all auto shows? or just the ones that matter ? if so im egaerly awaiting for the denver show
blackout501st:
thouse are some DAM sexy cars.
LXL_Guy:
That was cool. Though where's Ratchet?!
TRANS+CRAZY:
SWEET!!!

Love those cars! I am certainly starting to like GM more... I just might get myself one of the GM vehicles featured in the Transformers movies.
frilly toothpick:
too bad wheelie can never be part of the autobots convoy. poor little guy.
DECEPTIKONBRAWL:
man i love that music for the video!
GAUGE0001:
GM DESIGNER thanks for the great vids.

I love the 3rd Vid the most because of my most favored theme (Scorponok)

But seriously, The Stingray looks really beautiful. I'm betting if it get's produced though, the front and back are gonna get changed alot. I wish they could just leave the concept the way it is and produce thousand based on the exact design.

he could be... he just would need to WATCH OUT!!
Yobuster:
Is ti just be or did that video just totally blow my mind?

I'm certainly interested in finding out more about the 2 smaller cars the ice-cream twins turn into.
Nerdicon:
The camels are the fallen!
Sam Witwicky:
All I care about is the Chevy Camaro. I want to see some pics of it at the show.
ThrottleBot:
GM Guy When is the camaro avaialable?? And how much is it gonna cost?? Looking forward to purchasing the lower end version..

Thanks
TCJJ:
So awesome. Those vehicles actually all look pretty nice, even the Trax and Beat which I never liked. Loving Sideswipe. That 2010 Concept Chevy Corvette is brilliant.
keanu577:
I want Sunstreaker!!!!
Scourgatron:
My favorite part in movie one was the Autobots rolling. There seems to be lots of Rolling and my god, this movie is gonna be the shit!

We have an established storyline. Its time to do some damage.
clonemanager:
Hi GM Designer,
Will any of these vehicles come with a hybrid engine ? I imagine all these cars look good; but in order to be practical... gas mileage is an issue... we can't guarantee the oil price not bumping up to the $3's or $4's in the near future....

It's been mentioned that Ratchet is not going to see any advertising from GM (which this video is) since the H2 or whatever he was, has been axed. Why pay to produce an ad for a product they don't sell?

I swear on my mother's undug grave that if Chevy puts all-wheel drive on a Volt, I will buy one in a heartbeat.
mikeyfuzz:
Yeah, I get that. I guess I want to know why we haven't seen the H2 too much on set, any toys leaked, or much at all about him. Its like they forgot to show him die at the end of movie 1 and we find out in the opening monologue of ROTF that "oops, he didnt make it, sorry we didn't tell you sooner."
Autobot Spike:
oh no guys and gals... looks like we scared him off. nah.. just kidding.

if i had one question to ask, it would be this:

Is the volt in the film running on gas or electric? that is to say, is it the real-deal, or a mock-up? i really anticipate the volt as my next car, and i guess i'm just curious to see if it's close to reality, or if we're just getting a peek at what it "could be" right now.

no need to spill trade-secrets, but would be nice to know if it was the real thing we'll be seeing on the big screen.

thanx!!!

G1Optimal:
Man that was a Awesome video.

Is it just me or is Bumblebee and "i think" Sideswipe acting as windbreakers for the rest..?

I dont know, but I want one of both!
Thunderstruck:
Would love to know if the new Camaro will come with the bumblebee stripe as an option instead of the rally stripes. Would love to have it match my 67 R.S. (red with the black stripe)
aussieprime:
I havn't had a chance to watch the video as yet (at work and they block the videos). But do you know if Bay looked at the Pontiac G8 or I think someone else refered to it as the GTO....not 100% sure what it's called in the US....us Aussies call it a Commodore, there was also a ute (truck) version (G8 ST I think it was gonna be called.)
I had thought that this model would have made a good Cliffjumper as the Camaro is about the same size a built on the same platform, he would've looked like Bumblebee without having to be a twin copy.
Roadtrack:
WOW! That.Was.Awesome

Sideswipe is more cooler than Bumblebee. I'm definetly gonna buy the toy. It's kind of awquard (sp?) to see Optimus and Ironhide next to these little cars. Both of them being big trucks driving next to small cars...
GM_Designer:
Lone Decepticon: As far as I know, all of the cars Michael Bay picked while he was at GM Design made it into the movie. I believe he even added some characters based on what he saw.

Cinemastique: No, it was not a marketing decision; Michael Bay was able to pick and choose. Michael and Ed Welburn walked around GM Design together and went through all of the design studios. Oh and your point about the cars not being today’s cars and them blending in. Those in the film (which are in production) will be on the road soon!

SlayerDarkCross: I am not totally sure what was used for the base of the film prop Camaro in the movie this time. The body kit looks cool! While it is not currently a factory option, anything is possible! Yes, the Spark will be sold in the US.

Huntervfx2: The cars will be on display all week, as will Bumblebee. Glad you liked the video!

Anti Spark: Body kits are something that a lot of people are very interested and the new Camaro has a ton of potential for this sort of thing… as I said above… anything is possible. ..

DrLee: I would love to drive around in that Stingray!! Michael Bay on touring the studio picked the cars himself. To the best of my knowledge, the Volt was not a last minute addition.

VW decepticon: Right now, this set up is just for Chicago.

Throttlebot: The Camaro is available Spring 2009. I have not driven one yet, however I have started and revved it in a studio (we are not supposed to do that.. Shh). Sitting behind the wheel of that car is awesome.

Clonemanager: Hybrids are a big part of GM. This is what we currently have: General Motors | GM Vehicle Search | Find your Car, Truck, or SUV and more are on the way. GM does a lot of alternative fuel work with biofuel, hybrid, electric, fuel cells and fuel efficiency: General Motors Fleet & Commercial - Alternative Fuel Vehicles

Autobot Spike: Still here! Just had to go home and then had to get some work done!! The Volt in the film is current production surface (aside from body-kit additions that may be in there).

Aussieprime: I am Australian! The Commodore SSV rocks. A black one of those would have been very cool. I am guessing that Bay saw the G8, it would have been in the studio when he did the walk around.
JuicyNo:
I love the designs of all the new GM vehicles, especially the Vette (though I preferred the concept version of the volt much more than what we'll get as a production vehicle). Now if GM can start matching the reliability I can get out of a Honda or Toyota, we'll be in business.

Ok..... Did you guys say no to any of Bay's choices?

Production surface... so that means the innards are from another production model or rigged in such a way to function as needed, but are not the actual Volt's inner workings...
...or am i just not up on the lingo and you're saying that the volt for the film (body mods aside) is in fact a consumer production model?

It's an exciting car, so i'm always trying to get as much info on its progress.
thanx!!!

-A.S.

p.s. another member asked about the drive system in the volt... is it all-wheel, or is it planned to be all-wheel?
SlayerDarkCross:
More questions =)

How similar is Rally Yellow to the color used for bumblebee?
(If not similar has GM considered adding it?

Are the stripes on the transformer Camaro the factory option? (They look similar)

Will the lights that were briefly used while testing the Camaro ever be a factory option?
(Reference: http://www.acuraworld.com/forums/att...ing-camaro.jpg)

Heh a fun question which cars have you worked on that have made it to production?
OmegaVPrime:
Im severly impressed with how crisp bumblebees transformation was in that clip, i hope someone else noticed this and it wasnt just me....
Poho:
great stuff! you can so tell MBay used to shoot car commercials.
GM_Designer:
Autobot Spike: Production surface means that it is the production body (design wise). The innards were worked by Paramount. They got our exterior surface and ‘made it work’ for the film as the engineering for the car was still in progress on our end. The Volt is FWD.

SlayerDarkCross: The Rally Yellow is slightly different, however very close.

The lights you mention were ‘mock ups’ for testing. Lamp prototypes are very expensive and take a long time to develop; those ones in the picture you linked were put together for the test cars, so I doubt it!

Cars I have worked on that are out there, Camaro, G8, Commodore (Ute and sport wagon), the Cruze (it’s on the way!) some Volt stuff too.

Poho: He still does ads! Look up the Michael Bay Commonwealth Bank ad.
