I think you can tell when someone is able to parody and laugh about himself he is pretty comfortable with what he does. People with that personality and ability to poke fun at themselves usually take input and admit when they are wrong.

Anybody notice the giant Bumblebee head and the Movie toys on his computer desk? I think I saw Megatron and 08 Bumblebee.
I also noticed some funny things - on the wall is a framed picture of an explosion, and the same four awards statue-looking things are behind him in every interior scene of the house.

As linked by Gordon 4 on the first page, Bay made a cameo appearance in a commercial for one of the local banks here as the director of the ridiculously stereotyped commercial a clueless american ad agency made for a conservative Australian bank. Bay even had a fake sychophant character sitting next to him.
So yeah, I think he's aware of that what he does isn't 'art' and thus isn't adverse to mocking his own work and his over-the-top style.
