The Post-Tribune has posted an article regarding the continued filming of Transformers 3 in Gary, Indiana. While discussing how Michael Bay is currently using Tyrese Gibson and Josh Duhamel in a scene filmed at the dilapidated City Methodist Church, the article reveals that Tyrese’s character (Master Sgt. Robert Epps) has a slight name change to his military title.
To check out the new title and what it may mean for the human forces in Transformers 3, read on! The article refers to his character as Retired Master Sgt. Ray Epps. Ignoring that his name is Robert and not Ray, what does that mean for NEST as a military unit or the current military status of William Lennox? Although it is unknown at this time, the new look to the NEST logo also hints at changes.

That is some new news. WOW. Whats with the change?

Ha ha, yea like the word "retired" means the Decepticons would leave him alone or something. Sam tried to get away from being involved with the Transformers yet he got dragged back into the middle of everything so just because Epps retired people think he can't be in the action.

The only thing retired about Tyrese is going to be his acting career after he banks the cash from options on this flick. Maybe then he'll actually start recording music again with Ginuwine. Maybe he's not the best, but it's better than having 5 lines in an action flick, and getting the most googly eyed action figure in promotional history.
Still, I like it when my military figures get a promotion. Kind of like when they promoted all the military personnel in Stargate SG-1. Gives it a sense of continuity.

Suspend reality when the movie is set in the present day real world with the real military? thats a hard thing to do
Prime82
why is everyone making such a big deal out of this? Does rank really play a big role in these movies? Nope, their still out there shooting guns at nothing so looks like NEST is intact. Maybe they disbanded since TF2 and at the end they all come back and parachute in
-Wreckage-
This ain't news; this is a joke.
Where's the darn pictures of shockwave? I wanna see him!!! lol
RedWolf
Or they've been using the real life NEST as a cover, Nuclear Emergency Support Team. *shrug*

I think there is a good chance that in this movie, NEST has been "de-activated" and essentially privatized like other US contractors. That way the government is not officially responsible for their actions, but are secretly bankrolling them.

He was also at the center of a fate-of-the-world battle against giant robot death machines. If that's not a good enough excuse for an early promotion then I don't know what is.
Hotwire
Couple points, not sure if they've been mentioned.
Tyrese is only 31, he'll be 32 in December. Now, assuming his character is the same age as him, he could, at most have 14 years in the Air Force. The average time in to reach Master Sergeant is 16 years. You also need 20 years in before you can retire.
It's kind of annoying when they assign rank to characters that could not have earned.

What new NEST logo?
Kaijumaster
Seriously what does NEST stand for?

Of course! There can be no other explanation!

Just ONE word – "Retired."
And some are saying the movie is already sucky, bad, etc..blah blah blah.
Sometimes the fandom surprises me to no end.
Does it matter even he is "retired"?.
Just enjoy the popcorn movie. Suspend reality and leave logic at the entrance.

*Idea* If Lennox and Epps are globetrotting, getting in Decepticon faces with their badassness, why not pretend they're no longer military, but they're in what amounts to be a mercenary corps?
No idea how secret NEST is now that everyone knows about the Transformers, but just a thought.

Yes, believe me…EP is correct. I'd NEVER address a Chief Master Sergent as Master Sgt…it was always "CHIEF"…ALWAYS.
After soooooooooooooo many years involving itself with the US military, one would think Hollywood would know who to ask about proper military insignia and the correct way to address military members.
It burns me when these nitwits can't get such a simple thing right.

unless it is a big cover up and he is a firefighter with inferno, or the big fire truck mit have something to do with this too.
ronfromfresno
I was going to ask the same question, wasn't he dressed as a firefighter while filming in Chicago and the assumption was then that he had retired and joined the CFD.
