Nelson - No Jolt for Transformers 3

Posted on 08-03-2010 at 01:19 AM by Sol Fury under Transformers Movie (Just Movie) (All Transformers Movie News)
No-Jolt
With all the new characters coming to light in the form of vehicles seen on set and cardboard cutouts of heads on sticks, some of you have been wondering about the fate of existing characters who have not been seen on set yet. Case in point, the Chevy Volt character Jolt. Added to Revenge of the Fallen late in the day he got very little to do in that movie, but with him in on the ground floor he could get some better screentime in the third movie, right?

Unfortunately, no. Nelson dropped by our 2005 Boards to answer the question many of you are asking.

"No Jolt."

So sorry Jolt, it looks like your 15 seconds of fame were driving along that one stretch of road and helping Optimus Prime combine with the body of the recently deceased Jetfire.

Yeah, I saw Nelson's post in the "Autobot Firetruck" thread. Unfortunately, I can't say I'm surprized.

That's stupid to just drop characters. I hope they at least say Jolt died sometime between the 2nd and 3rd movies...
example
One of the best designs on screen (imo) thrown away just like that...that's just lame.
spiritprime
Alas, poor Jolt...
MaxLinden
That really sucks.... Jolt is my favorite designed of the whole movie trilogy.... (Not including Optimus or Starscream)....
How could they drop him!
Hiraga
He will always be remembered as that really cool looking robot that did...uh...Actually, no big loss.

Not really in this case. Jolt was a last-minute introduction and was about as much a character as a lamp post. He was just a background guy, every movie has them. Plus, with the apparent amount of Autobots in this movie, it's safe to say there's dozens on Earth and any given group could be functioning at a time. He doesn't have to die he could just be "elsewhere."
Janeails22x
RIP: Jolt

Died/Disappeared between movies 2 and 3, never to be heard of again...unless a posthumous HA figure is in the works.... :-)
Bumblebee028
D: ......I'm in denial. It's misinformation campaign, he didn't go over the cast list right, He forgot Jolt was actually in the film, but not where you see him. JOLT HAS TO BE IN THE MOVIE!! I'd die if he wasn't...

BB28
Poho
you would think they would at least kill him off and use him as cannon fodder. waste of a cool design.
tf_4_lyf
Aww man that really sucks. I really got my hopes up because someone started a thread giving what seemed to be pretty solid info on jolt returning, something about a chevy volt tester going to chicago to film the volt there. Oh well.
Cyber Star
yup, saw it in the firetruck thread, and Jolt joins Barricade in the missing transformers catagory
chrisr291
Jolt was in ROTF? I only saw it once

The only Character they should bring back is Barricade.... What happened to him again?
eagc7
meh i dont care, Jolt was Only added for promtoe the chevy Volt
Tigermegatron
When I saw the TF2 movie in theathres. I honestly didn't spot any scenes with Jolt in it.

I haven't re-watched the TF2 movie after that theathre viewing. once was enough for me. I kinda rate the 2nd live action TF movie worst than the first live action TF movie.

I agree. I don't know what people are missing, when he hardly did anything at all (rather than kinda save the world for 2 seconds). I guess it was his potential that will be all lost out on, as he had a cool car mode and awesome electro-whips.

But with some awesome new Autobots that we're already getting, I really don't care about Jolt.

That was me. His team got delayed and delayed, then delayed indefinitely. Writings were on the wall.
DecepticonsRule
Can't say it's a big surprise... but it's disappointing nonetheless. Having such a small role in ROTF, it's not a big surprise he wouldn't be coming back. But his design was so awesome...
Switchblade
But... but... how will the third movie be the same without such a vital and well developed character? I cannot believe the Michael Bay would drop a character as important as Jolt from the third movie. He has totally raped my 2009-hood.

I will choose to remember all the good times with Jolt. Like that one time he stood in the background. Or the time he was in that group shot of the cars.

Oh I know he was a last minute character, but that still annoys me. He was there, and even if he had no real characterization he shouldn't just be dumped. But if they mention him and say he's off protecting something I'll be satisfied... I guess
Magnimus
He barely did anything in ROTF and wasn't on screen half the time. He's just fully embracing his destiny as a NON PRESENCE
Maverick Hunter Christian
I feel bad for the ILM guys and anybody else responsible for building these CG models. All the time and energy spent building and animating these things, nevermind the ridonkulous render times. Just to be tossed in the bin after one use. Shame, that.
ORIO
Nothing shocking there.
Wheeljack_Prime
Well, we can always hope that "Einstein", having a similar vehicle mode and color and all that, uses Jolt's body. That would increase our chances of getting an HA.
megatronski
Its misinformation clearly. Why do you all believe this?!?!?!!?
Autobot_Wall-E
But... he never truly lived...

Not surprising though. I doubt anyone from the general audience will care where he went though. They might not even notice his absense.
Optimus Prime
Honestly, it's not as bad as Barricade's disappearance. Jolt, as others have mentioned, was a last-minute background character. Barricade had prominent screentime and was a fan-favorite, only to mysteriously vanish with no explanation before the movie was even over.
Scantron
Yes, what a shame that a character who had about a minute of cumulative screentime in RotF won't be coming back for TF3.
Ikkstakk
Not really a big loss. It sounds like they didn't have anything for him to do, so just throwing him into the background again would have added major bucks to the CG budget for no important reason. Better to use that money for the 87 other robots they've planned for this film. (Or however many it is, it seems more get revealed every day.)

As for a Human Alliance Jolt, Jazz and Barricade both got 'em despite not being in ROTF at all. If the line stays popular, and the fans stay insistent, Hasbro will probably go for it.
AutoBobby
Unless I'm mistaken,I'd swear I saw some video somewhere of the new filming and Jolt was in it.I thought he was a great character, the little bit we saw of him.

Because it will make the excitement sweeter when it reverses! If our expectations are low...the payoff will be spectacular.
Spin-Out
... And yet the Twins somehow manage to get back in.
Ravage_Eject
Well...at least Barricade has someone to hang out with now!!! : )

The Twins were prominent characters, Jolt was a last minute addition that served as a backround character. Need I say more?

Too bad they weren't very good characters.
Macross7
I could care less. Other than using his wips on Prime, he did nothing. Maybe he died in the Carwash of Doom.
NCStarscream
That sucks. I love the design of the character, and with the car actually getting a bit more publicity now I'd have thought they'd want to capitalize on that. Here's hoping he gets a cool death scene in a comic or something.

I don't know about that, I've seen plenty of people on here who like the twins. I like them, I think they're pretty good characters.

I Agree

I'm quite disappointed with this. I had a feeling it would come to this sadly.

Me too, I found them likable after the initial shock factor wears off. Like Jar Jar Binks, after you get over the fad of hating them, you find them decent and fun enough.

I'm really sorry for all you Jolt fans. It's a shame.

Make sense...
VaderPrime1
Who was that guy that said if Jolt wasn't in TF3 that he would accept a ban (I don't want him to be banned, btw)? I can't find the thread where he said his friend is a technician for the Volt for GM and he said that his friend was scheduled to run maintenance on the set?

That only leaves 3 explanations: 1) Nelson is misinforming, 2) That guy's friend lied, 3) The guy made up the entire thing.

I don't know the answer, but what I do know is that I'll be mad if he isn't in the movie... I wanted to see more of that sexy robot mode.
Anguirus
Wasn't expecting much, but considering that this movie has an Autobot army, would have been nice to have him.

Of course, there is no reason that this precludes giving him a CG shot or two in robot mode, but seems doubtful. At any rate, I'll miss that pretty car. Perhaps I'll buy an Electrostatic Jolt, as no way he gets a new mold after getting cut from the film.
jamjam101
probably got electrocuted or something
Chopperface
I just got very sad. Waste of a character? Yes. But he needed to be in here big time.

Damn it, Michael Bay. Go ahead, call me overdramatic, but damn it Michael Bay. After the respect I got for you from watching The Making of ROTF.

If anything, the Volt is coming out about 2011 or so, right? That'd be prime time to advertise Jolt as a Volt. With Jolt not being a last-minute addition this time, he could've had at least maybe Ironhide and Ratchet status this time around.

This really blows bigtime, Bay.

And we all know Jolt won't be mentioned at all. Just like Jazz, Arcee, the Constructicons, Grindor/Blackout, and a whole lot more people.
ectoneon
Well, there goes my dream of getting a better Jolt figure this go round.

They need more space to advertise more new characters so you will buy the new toys.

And I bet it works...
