After more than 3 months of silence from the web, Director Michael Bay talked a bit more about his upcoming movie; Transformers 4. For those who usually stay away even from the tiniest spoilers, this news post contains what he mentioned about the plot… you are warned.

“It’s not a reboot," Bay said, reiterating that the new film will have an all-new cast. "That’s maybe the wrong word. I don’t want to say 'reboot' because then people will think we’re doing a 'Spider-Man' and starting from the beginning. We’re not. We’re taking the story that you’ve seen — the story we’ve told in three movies already — and we’re taking it in a new direction. But we’re leaving those three as the history. It all still counts... We’re moving on to something different.”

Director Bay mentioned a bit about the plot as well...
"That feels like the way to go, doesn’t it?" says Bay. "I want to go a little off [the planet] but I don’t want to go too sci-fi. I still want to keep it grounded."

And the budget is less than what was allocated for Transformers: Dark of the Moon. This time it’s a relatively small (in terms of movies like this) budget of $165 million.

More interesting is that it's only a reboot in tone/content, while keeping the other 3 movies canon.

Interesting move. Let's hope that it brings some fresh ideas into the franchise.

oh interesting

Now expecting an orgy of unrecognizable alt modes.

Space sound's interesting.

Lower budget, hopefully that means less explosions, and more story.

As the Space Core would say.....

Fuuu... good point.
Sinnertwin
Very interesting.

Uh, I actually think "keep it grounded" is code for "yes it will be largely set on Earth."

However, lower budget, mostly different cast, sticking with the same canon, and "more sci-fi" all sound pretty good to me.

In space?... interesting

Cosmos or GTFO

Bullshit, there's no US Army in space anymore.

Well seeing as all the big name cons were killed... I'm thinking we might be seeing Unicron. At the least maybe Galvatron if they go the way of IDW.

It could be interesting. Then again I've loved all the movies so far and as long as he keeps Sideswipe in it and gives him a little bit more to do I'll be happy.

Nolan North must voice him no matter the cost.

I'm feeling Patrick Warburton on that one.

TRANSFORMERS 4 News from Michael Bay

I read here that it may have more space, but that Bay wants to keep it grounded and accessible. He was very vague about it.

Time travel to save Cybertron.

Probably. Or attempt to travel back in time to save Cybertron, something goes wonky, and a bunch of Autobots & Decepticons end up in an alternate reality/timeline on Earth. Boom, new robot designs & human cast 'explained'.

Well he does play idiots well but Nolan North's Space Case would be like the space core from Portal 2.

SpaceCase is an idiot.

I support Warburton as SpaceCase.
UltraAlanMagnus
I dont Want a Space Case in the Movies. He needs to be in Prime.
Autobot Burnout
This concerns me. Every single time Transformers have gone BACK into space for extended periods of time, things do not end well for the current series. Namely; the fact that being in space makes the whole point of transforming a completely moot point. G1 ended up being lazy with the alt. modes and didn't make them look at all like earth vehicles after a while in S3, Energon just had cars, etc. randomly driving through space for no reason, at least Cyberton gave them multiple planets to land on so transforming still had some purpose left.

The fact it may be more heavily focused in space also reeks of the possibility they are in fact going to use Unicron, and we all know how badly that could end.

Oh fuck yes. This would be amazing.

Space Case, dumb as he is, doesn't belong in Prime. He's too good to be wasted for no real reason.
Omega Charge
Sounds interesting. Also, hearing Jablonsky's returning makes me happy.

Transformers coming to Space-Australia? Ok, I'll bite. XD
Cyber-Scream
Space, huh? Perhaps there is hope.

Also space t-rex plz?

That would go well with the unrecognizable robot modes.

This sounds kind of interesting, but it still has Michael Bay, so I'm not spending money on it.
Not a Michael Bay hater, I just don't like any of his movies. (with one or two early exceptions)

Sounds interesting hope we get astrotrain in this one.
Why the lower budget? The last one made over a billion dollars.
doomboy536
Transformers is about sentient transforming robots from the other side of the galaxy, so when the person in charge of bringing them to the big screen says things like

it makes me a little bit sad. Still, good that we are getting some news about TF4.
Spiderus Prime
So it's Transformers 4: The Final Fortifier.

Yes just Yes.

Nucleon is essientially a Space Australia.

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Fool me a third time? Then I should be giving someone else Power of Attorney over me.

I will not sit through another Michael Bay Transformers movie, I don't care who is in it or what it is about.
Kostya
Wait a minute...space likely means there won't be many humans if there are any at all. This implies it will be all bot action all the time. That would probably drive the costs up yet they have a smaller budget? I foresee this movie being an even larger train-wreck than ROTF.
TFtoycollector
All good news except the news about the budget. Why no bigger budget than DOTM?

We appear to have reached that phase in the franchise's lifecycle when the executives begin slashing the budget and riding on the success of previous entries to maximize profits. The model is inherently unstable so I think the franchise will limp along for another two or three installments before it bombs and is put out of its misery.

Of course five years later there will be a reboot but it's likely a talented director will be behind this so I have no complaints.
grimlock1972
well so much for my hope of an entirely new aesthetic for the new movie.

So tired and over the current movie look.
kaijuguy19
Hmm this is intresting indeed.

Curious to see what type of story it'll have in space.
Red vs Blue fan
I've honestly given up any hope of a good Bay TF movie. I don't think I'm going to see it.
Plus, I don't see "lower budget" and "in space" mixing very well (though the latter part might be more of Bay's "misinformation")
Bumblebee765
I'm still hoping they bring the Wreckers back (or at least that they get toys in the inevitable toyline), but I'm starting to see that this is becoming less likely. Even if it's not a reboot, they weren't really important enough to come back...
Stardust262
I'd say inb4Unicron but with a lowered budget that's probably not the case
