Michael Bay says Thank You to the Fans page1_blog_entry509-11871890
Michael Bay has posted a message on Shoot For the Edit thanking the fans for their support on the opening day of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, for making it one of the biggest single opening days in movie history at $60 Million in the US and around $100 million worldwide.

The 400 critics around the globe spoke. Then fans around the world spoke.

Transformers made $60.6 million dollars in the United States for a total of around $100 million from the world on opening day! One of the biggest single days in movie history.

Then never seem to understand that I make movies for people to take a ride and escape.

To all the Transformer Fans - Thank You

Michael

Is it impossible to ask for an entertainment movie with a decent story and characters? I believe it isn't. Look at the likes of the rebooted Batman movies, Iron Man, the first few X Men movies. All pure entertainment but with decent stories, interesting characters, good humour etc. And these all did pretty good BO too.
Geminii:
And here I was imagining the "thanks" to be something like a pic of Bay piling up $200m in cash. And then blowing it up.
HankHill:
Everyone in this thread that is "Bay-bashing" needs to calm down. Michael Bay did not write the movie. He directed it. So shut up.

Directors rarely slavishly follow what the writers have put in the script. And some barely follow it at all. It's not like Bay has the script given to him and told he has to film that exactly and nothing else. I doubt someone like Bay would be happy being told that. If that was the case then we likely wouldn't have directorial styles. Directors probably have far more input and ability to change and add story stuff than the writers themselves.

Besides what was just said, it's worth noting that the writers in question have proven they can do better than TF2 this very summer alone.

A very valid point. This franchise deserves better than it's gotten writing-wise.

Outnumbering? It's getting a lot of ticket sales, I grant you, but the number of people who DON'T watch a movie will ALWAYS outnumber the people who do. It's just a matter of population.

And ticket sales =/= "actually liked the movie." It only means they paid the money to see it, which for most folks, was done on the strength of the franchise alone. It has very little to do with the quality of this movie itself.

Now, if ticket sales stay high for a bit longer, I'll concede that people are watching TF2 on the merits of its own strengths.

Well, I'm not saying that I agree with the previous poster that the writing of TF2 is what is "bad" about it vs. Bay's direction. I don't think we can know for certain. Nor do I really think the success of "Star Trek" is due more to the writers than to the director (Abrams is something of a living legend these days), but if you're gonna say that TF2 is "bad" (which obviously not everyone thinks) because of the writers, it needs to be recognized that they're not just hacks.

I guess what I'm saying is that for all the stick Bay gets for the film from some camps, the majority of where the rub seems to be is in the film's writing. Of which Orci/Kurtzman have proven can do better than they have with Transformers 1 and 2.

I think TF3 would be well served with a different writing team. Not so sure Bay is at the heart of the problem.

It's possible. I'm just not at all sure who's at fault for what, and so don't think I can agree with that statement with any confidence.

I don't want to defend the writers too strongly, but looking at Bay's other movies, I do want a new director.

I guess as long as that new director doesn't have the last name of Schumacher and have the next film be titled, Transformers: Forever, I wouldn't be against the idea at all.

What would be awesome would be to get Ridley Scott.
Spirawobble:
Definitely.

Scott or James Cameron ( he could write it as well ) would be great but unfortunately it will never happen!
