 | | | Michael Bay says Thank You to the Fans | | Posted on 06-26-2009 at 06:58 PM by Sol Fury | Michael Bay has posted a message on Shoot For the Edit thanking the fans for their support on the opening day of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, for making it one of the biggest single opening days in movie history at $60 Million in the US and around $100 million worldwide. The 400 critics around the globe spoke. Then fans around the world spoke.
Transformers made $60.6 million dollars in the United States for a total of around $100 million from the world on opening day! One of the biggest single days in movie history.
Then never seem to understand that I make movies for people to take a ride and escape.
To all the Transformer Fans - Thank You
Michael | | | Views: 2,731 | | Tommybg2003:
sure first the thanks us then he will BLOW US UP!
blaine71274:
I don't know.......It looks to me he is giving everyone the bird in that pic. When you accept a prize, you don't usually hold it like that. But I understand the reasoning. Movie was awesome.
transformerbot:
Michael you should use some of that money to make a big cuz thats what your good at right?
figsdad:
okies thanks mr bay now in the next movie get more dailalogue with the robots towards each other less of sam parents and im happy,..

Boy Blunder:
You're welcome, Bay! Sure, it wasn't the best movie out there, and it was pretty disjointed... but so were the G1 cartoons, so it's all good. A little more robot-focus, and a little less 'alien invasion'-feel, and we'll be golden!
Thanks for the roller coaster, man! Worth my $10, for sure! StarSaber79:
Thank YOU Michael! I haven't seen Revenge yet but I know it will be awesome!!!
tampa:
you rocky bay!! loved the ride Digilaut:
Thank you too, Michael. How about next time you make a movie that is at least up to par with movie 1, instead of defending that you 'did it for the fans'?
But hey, I enjoyed one out of the two so far, so that's half positive! So thanks!
mentat_emre:
thanks to you tooo Mr. bay. Actions scenes war truely epic. they were really piece of art in their own way. For the next movie please more robot personalities and less human stuff.
Goaliebot:
Thank YOU, Mr. Bay! Both movies were awesome sauce with extra helpings of kick-ass. Waverider:
Your welcome Michael Bay...
It seems that some of the haters on this thread didn't see the movie or just went to see the movie just to hate it. I wonder why they say "Can I have my money back Mr Bay" when they already made up their mind to hate it? That's a waist of money that could be used for a new figure or something.
DarthP00P00:
I love you Bay, your the best!
G.B. Blackrock:
Of course, we fans would have gone to see the movie in almost any event. How much better would it have been if it was actually a good movie, that critics AND fans enjoyed?
vektsilver:
Can no one understand what pandering is ?
He has to play nice to us and all fans otherwise it hurts movie sales. The man sending a web thanks is about as meaningful as Paris Hilton writing a book on space time theory. Im sorry, I see him saying "shit my film didnt get alot of good reviews but if I kiss the asses of the fans they ll probably go see it a couple more times than they would have normally".
Also he is pitting you versus the critic so it looks like as bad as the reviews are you should see the movie that many more times.
Its just a game because if he actually wanted to do the fans a service he would have changed alot of things in the movie and not done things like the SoundWave being all of two seconds with Dr.Claws voice. Didnt they hype the shit out of Sound wave only to cut it down to an insignificant character with no screen time.
The man does not thank you for being fans he is thanking you for making him money, end of story.
Faust:
Thanks to you!
Loved both movies and I plan on seeing TF2 again and again.
Nerdicon:
You are so welcome Mr. Bay. Now I'm off to see the movie. Here's hoping it fits my super secret totally authentic movie script that I have. (see my previous posts)Har!
420bot:
Thank for being smart enough to tell the studio no to shooting both sequels at once and thank u for taking a year off and telling them 2012 and not 2011.
At least the thrid one can have alot more time to be developed and won't be affected by strikes hopefully.
Let's hope it has a 300 million dollar budget.
BAY SPLOSION!
Autovolt 127:
Thank you Micheal Bay....it was one kickass flick.
Hope to see you aboard in TF3.....
P.S NO MORE SEX JOKES!........ ErbFan28:
Your very welcome Mr. Bay. Hope you're back for the third one.
TigerClaw:
Thank you Michael Bay for doing another fantastic movie, You really outdone yourself, I hope you stay for TF3.
Omega Supreme-1:
Michael, I give you an A for effort...but i'll let someone else grade your final turn in...
Usagi-Prime:
You're welcome Mr. Bay, and thank you for keeping Peter Cullen as the Prime (I know he's on contract for all three movies but still, it's the thought that counts. I wish though he got opening credits like all the other live action actors did, he deserves it). I've gotta say, I was happy with it overall but I was disappointed with the movie when it came to levels such as characterization, plot, and character motivation, especially since Animated was canceled for it (And I felt it just didn't deliver that amount of creativity) But, it was a nice movie that I'm hoping to have on DVD one day.
By the way, Mrs. Witwicky getting high was funny. Extremely random, but it was funny And thank you for including the Matrix of Leadership, it was a pleasant homage! Yes it's purpose wasn't purist-accurate, but I was happy it was in it at all
But a word of advice, please don't make another movie that's "The adventures of Kicker and his girlfriend Misha that does nothing but run around with her lovely features". Gawd, I hated Energon enough, I didn't want to experience it in a movie. I expected more out of the characters. Even random Naruto poster dude did more than our bad-ass Mikaela. And I wanted more autobot characterization out of this film, the twins really weren't all that entertaining with their stereotypes. Then again, I won't make my post a mini-review, I've already written it up somewhere XD

The man does not thank you for being fans he is thanking you for making him money, end of story. | And your point is? Pandering or no, subversive reasons or no, it's still a thank you for the support, be it actual 'I loved this movie!!!~1!' or just for taking the time and money to go see it, even if you didn't like it. Whether you liked the movie or not, if you went to go see it, if you participated in discussion about it, you supported it in some fashion or another, and he's thanking you for that. Even negative feedback means that someone cares enough to give feedback.
Get off your high horse and let the man pander if he likes. It's not like he's making some personal affront to you, is he? No. Unless he killed your puppy... then you have a case. And my condolences.
Laserbot:
Yor welcome Mr. Bay and thank you for taking us on a journey well never forget! Ruthie:
I think TF1 was better, and many of the criticisms of ROTF are deserved, but I will never knock the amount of effort that went into making this movie, especially given all of the additional challenges Bay had to juggle. So for this I say a hearty "You're welcome."
Now, how feasible would it be to take a few million of the bazillion dollars this movie will make and create a family friendly "Director's cut" for DVD; complete with re-edits (deleting or re-voicing the bawdy elements), smoother animation, and 1 or 2 additional scenes to tie it all together? On the other hand Dark Knight big opening weekend and by and large people still love it. Ironman big opening weekend and people still seem to love it. So big opening weekend can mean a movie people still love later.
Declaring everyone loved the movie and all the critics were wrong when opening weekend isn't even finished is like taking the ratings from the first 5 minutes of the Super Bowl to say everyone loved the game. Lets give the public some time to see if they keep coming back and if they tell their friends to go see the movie or not first. | Call me crazy, but I wouldn't be at all surprised to see a 67-73% drop for next weekend.

After all, the best leaders are those who are peacemakers, but can fight when necessary (and kick ass in doing so).
B)u wouldnt want to be able to give a violent death to one who killed ur family (this is evidence that ROTF does have a plot too), think about it, the title, Revenge of the Fallen, refers to more than one fallen: Megatron(fallen as in killed)-kills prime , Fallen-returns to destroy Earth , and, ironically but most importantly Optimus(falls but is revived)-Kills the Fallen, who betrayed the Primes, his family. The fallen primes get their revenge through their final ancestor, hence the plot.

This is my problem with Bay. He doesn't realize that a movie can be received well by critics AND have a monster box office take. Star Trek proved that.
Bay, next time worry about what the critics might think of the movie, the fans will clearly show up no matter what.

Michael Bay is the man rotf was amazing. I seen it last night and could'nt fall asleep because i was so excited. Its so cool that he thanks the fans. He should definety be back for tf3. It would'nt be the same. I had goosebumps when the movie started. I'm going to see it again. Again thanks so much Mr.Bay.

Bay, next time worry about what the critics might think of the movie, the fans will clearly show up no matter what. | It's not like he went out of his way to make a movie critics would hate. If you remember, the first one did actually get decent reviews for the most part. I'm betting he was somewhat surprised and dissapointed at the universal panning it's been getting. But at the same time good critical reception does not a great movie make, either. And in the end, moviegoer money and word of mouth speaks just as loud if not louder.

Bay, next time worry about what the critics might think of the movie, the fans will clearly show up no matter what. | There's no point in trying to please the critics. They're already jaded and biased before they even see the flicks. And remember these are the same people that prefered The Golden Compass's CGI polar bear superimposed over a mechanical bull to the first TF movie.

I gladly accept the thanks and send it twice back in return. Not only did I enjoy the chance to have over 2 1/2 hours of escapism but it was in something that was Transformers unlike every other Transformers experience.
It also opened the door for thousands of TF fans to display their arrogance, selfishness and astounding degree of ignorance (You jokers KNEW this was nothing like G1 or any other incarnation of Transformers goin into this, Bay never hid that fact, and STILL you pissed and moaned about it. Seriously, what were you expecting?? C'mon, guys you are pissed because your fantasy isn't all you wanted it to be. Get a grip)
Without this movie I would not be so priveleged as to have the hours of entertainment I have had at the expense of the whiners and the nay-sayers and the insecure little people who cannot handle that they didn't get what they want and can't wrap their minds around the conmcept that EVERYONE was a target demographic for this movie and not just them. Keep up the good work, Michael. We'll see you again in 2012 for TF3. Drpee: Quote:

They're going because it's a Transformers movie (and on the basis of the first movie, which apparently even critics liked pretty well, with the caveat that neither we nor they expected it to be anything more than a typical summer explod-o-fest).
We'll see how this movie does next week.... Quote: |

Perhaps we just don't like Bay's style? I, for one, could do without the gutter-level humor, just to name one criticism off the top of my head.

FRAK the critics, none of em understand, they all want shakespeare.

THANK YOU MR. BAY!!!! | I know that wasn't necessarily directed just (or even, necessarily, at all) at me, but I find this amusing, given how much of Shakespeare's work (and especially his humor) was considered "gutter-level" at the time, yet is considered great work.
Even so, I can't help but feel that Shakespeare appealed to the masses intelligently, whereas Bay (perhaps not just him, to be sure) goes straight for the juvenile.
But at the end of the day, it's just not my thing. To say that critics don't like (or "understand") this movie is one thing. Who knows their reasons? This movie's clearly not for them, and that's okay. But I don't think it's fair to assert that critics dislike it because "they want Shakespeare."

And in the end, moviegoer money and word of mouth speaks just as loud if not louder. | The problem is that Bay has always been panned by the critics (slight exception to TF1, which is his best movie thus far), and yet he doesn't change how he does things. Are critics the "be all, end all"? Of course not, but they're a relatively reliable way of judging the overall quality of a film. Bay's movies will never be loved by critics, but they could at least be tolerated (like TF1 was) instead of panned (like RotF).
I liked RotF, but it wasn't nearly as good as TF1, and there were clear ways that RotF could have been made a lot better. I'm not sure who to blame in the whole mess. Maybe the writers are more to blame. Maybe the writer's strike had an effect on the whole thing. Maybe Bay got a big head after his success with TF1. I don't know. But I definitely don't like Bay acting like RotF is such a great movie just because the box office is good. He needs to pay at least SOME attention to what movie critics think. To discredit their complaints is just silly.

Ignore the problems with RotF if you wish, but personally I want Bay to do better next time.

autobotguy:
I'd like to say the same back to Bay, except replace the "Thank" in "Thank You" with another word. This movie should have the same kinda humor that the movie "The Rock" had, not the stereotypical juvenile poopy jokes that this movie had. I seriously hope that TF3 gets picked up by a different director, or at least the Bay's sense of humor evolves beyond that of a 12 year old.
When I left the midnight viewing of the movie I stuck around the theater and listened to the comments of alot of the teen / late teen viewers (which was the majority of people seeing this viewing) and almost all of them said the action was awesome, but the humor was lame. Alot of folks at the theater wanted to know ALOT more about Sideswipe and wanted to see alot more of him. I feel that the desert battle really limited SideSwipe's efforts since he couldn't perform his acrobatic moves in the sand. I guess thats the downside of wheels for feet.
Spirawobble:
Michael Bay owes the fans more than just thanks for making a movie this poor. I think if he really wants to thank the fans then he should step down and let another director with a different vision ( a different writer ) have a go at the third movie.
Less juvenile humour, more robot interaction, more plot!

Less juvenile humour, more robot interaction, more plot! | Interesting declaration you made. I would like to see how you would have done it differently. If your vision can top Bay's I am all ears.
Seriously, it is suppose to be a Big Freaking robot movie with popcorn toppings.
As echoed endlessly, even if I find that film critics offer good and insightful views of a movie, they (among all people) should distinguish between an entertainment flick and a deep thought/provoking show. Trying to pan down and bury the movie (in this case ROTF) with their 'insightful' views goes to show how bias they are towards different genres of entertainment. They world does not revolve around you, mr. film critic, sir.
