 | | | Michael Bay Discusses Revenge of the Fallen's Devastator in IMAX, Mikaela's Re-Introduction, More | | Posted on 04-07-2009 at 07:57 AM by Tim Formas | | Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen director Michael Bay has sat down with MTV to discuss some new details regarding the sequel. The director reveals that the scenes featuring Devstator were filmed with IMAX cameras and thus movie-goers watching the film at the IMAX theatres will see those scenes in full IMAX glory. Michael also seems to suggest that one of the first scenes of the movie feature Megan Fox's Mikaela Banes doing something similar to "hood-opening" scene in the first movie. He also states that the sequel will feature no pure car chases scenes.

wow wtf is wrong with the video

If you were to say that "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" was the most-anticipated film of 2009, you likely wouldn't get much of an argument.
| Ha ha, I'm glad MTV has no media bias. Either that or the lack of a big hit for the network in some time shows they have lost touch.
frenzy_rumble:
wow that video is about .0001 seconds long. I slowed it down and was able to see all the secrets.
Crescent-31:
No car chases? that sucks >_>
And.. the video isnt really working *sigh*
ORIO:
Never been a big fan of car chases. I have to admit though, Bad Boys 2 has the best car chase I've ever seen. Bay knows how to do it.

I was hoping Sideswipe would at least get a cool transforming on the fly car chase scene.
Prowl:
Wasn't the quick scene in the trailer with Sideways and the cycle girls pretty much a mini car chase?
Tim Formas:
I think the "no car chase" thing is just Bay's way of saying that no battle is going to be solved by one car running another car off the road or anything like that.
I can see it playing out like this.....robots fight, one tries to flee by transforming to vehicle mode, chase ensues with no contact, tranform back to robot mode, fight finishes.
The Walmart video has shown the Arcee bikes chasing Sideways, all in vehicle mode. So, there are chases...the chase just likely doesn't decide the outcome of the battle.

That said, I'm not sure there are too many movies in 2009 that are more anticipated...

Mega-con:
I love when IMAX scenes in The Dark Knight expand on my PRO-151, so this is very good news to me.
Crescent-31:
Oh well, I wont judge the movie before i see it Alienbot:
I'm not surprised by Bay's statement, since on the DVD he said he had become bored of freeway chases and the Optimus-Bonecrusher scene would be his final say on the subject.

I agree with you though. Chases, but the chase doesn't determine the outcome.
primal-convoy:
Sigh, the video at the link doesnt work again. Could someone net savvy post a youtube link to it please?

im going to be ticked off if they only show devastatro on the imax screen & not on the other screen just what i always wanted to see a movie where the screen is 3 times as big as the normal version the bigger screen big whoop only thign differnt on imax is the screen itself & smaller room, the room itself is still dark & picture quality does not change that much on theater screen dvd perhaps but not thearter no matter how big the screen is i seen one imax film i ddint notice no differnce except the screen size itself.
ill take normal over imax any day tehy better show devastotr in normal version
ChErikS:
Surprised no one is curious about the Mikaela shot... I've seen it... she's straddling a motorcycle and in my opinion it is much raunchier than the hood scene in the first one... I'm pretty sure she's wearing even skimpier clothes during it.

The Dark Knight was the same way. The scenes shot with the IMAX camera are at a different aspect ratio. If you have the blueray, you will noticed the absencse of the black bars in some scenes. You will still see the same thing in both films, uless there are some IMAX exclusive footage
bruticus_prime:
alright for one my city i dont think comes with a imax theatre so i might never see devastator.and i could careless about car chases.

They are better quality, and they are bigger and fit the entire IMAX screen. Normal releases of the movie will have these scenes, they will just be slightly less impressive, and slightly cropped. But they will remain the same quality as the rest of the movie when watching in a normal theater. You won't notice when there is an IMAX filmed scene when watching in a normal theater. It's the same movie in IMAX, just a couple of scenes are better quality.

The scenes with Devastator are filmed with IMAX cameras, so on an IMAX screen, they look more impressive, but they can still be shown on a regular screen, but you won't notice any difference. He's in the normal version, still.

That said, I'm not sure there are too many movies in 2009 that are more anticipated... | I think it all depends on where you asked the question since there are lots of big movies for 2009. With the summer movie schedule full of big event movies each year I'm not sure how anyone could measure which one was the most anticipated.
So if you asked a Transformers fan it would be Transformers 2.
Ask the Trekkies and Trekkers it would be Star Trek.
Ask the Marvel Maniacs it would be Wolverine.
Ask the Potter Heads it would be last Harry Potter film.
GI Joe fans would say it's the Joe movie.
There is a Terminator movie out this summer, Johnny Depp and Christian Bale together in Public Enemies. Even though it didn't bust the box office Watchmen fans were crazy with anticipation over the film they said couldn't be made. Plus we haven't even gone into the comedies or the serious dramatic stuff.
Just looks like there is such a big plate of films on tap for this year covering such a range of topics that "most anticipated" seems like a marketing slogan. My anticipation is that I'm going to be spending a lot of time at the movie theater this year.

Sorta like a longer sequence of Starscream when he attacked the jets in the first film, but with TF cars instead. I was really hoping the freeway clash between Optimus and Bonecrusher in the first movie was going to be like that, but it was over before it barely got started.
TigerClaw:
Video not working for me either.
Solrac333:
So is Devastator REALLY Devastator?
Surge:
Does this mean that the Devastor scenes will be exlusive to IMAX theaters only? If so, I will be super pissed.
knoted:
Bay probably means 'no car chases' as the sole/core element of the action scene at hand. In a way he implies variety of action (using the potential of transformations ) with more robot interaction with the environment as well. (already highlighted in recent ILM interview)
I would agree with Bay on that because I'm getting pretty sick n tired of cliche car chases in movies.
If you want to see more cars chasing/racing or wtf ever, go see the new fast & furious or something.

GI Joe fans would say it's the Joe movie. | While I am a fairly big Star Trek fan, I am not an old school fan so I am looking forward to and am excited about the new Star Trek. BUT, quite a significant number of fans, particularly the old farts, consider this to not be canon, and they've been insulted by comments by Abrams that his Star Trek is not aimed at the long-time fans at all, and (like many franchise reboots such as Transformers) is aimed at the general audience. I've seen some old farts insult this as the 90210 version of Star Trek.
From my observation of the Joe forums I visit, they're split on the movie. A portion are okay with it, but not exactly EXCITED about it, the others out and out hate it. I myself question Stephen Sommers directing the movie - Bay would have been better for it, and would have kept it less "Super Hero Squad".
I think it's fair to say Revenge is (one of) the most anticipated movies of the year, given the 2007 appeared to be a "surprise success" when it was able to fend off significant competition from established franchises such as Spidey 3, Pirates 3, Shrek 3 and Harry Potter Whatever.

Your either dealing with it or you hate it right now. Almost nothing is making joe fans ex tactic. (Other than the movie destro toy with his suit from the 80's episode"cobra claws are coming." The majority dig that toy.)
Revenge is coming. You'd be shocked how many non transformer hardcore collector/fans are hyped for it. We just had a discussion in the toy forum about a parent from toys r us that would not buy a animated figure because they know the movie toys are coming in two months. ( time is here again )

Many of the Trekkies will see the new star trek... and then they'll watch Transformers
Many of the Marvel Maniacs will watch Wolverine... and then see transformers
The GI joe fans will probably anticipate transformers
and many Terminator fans anticipate more robot movies.
comic book geeks and regular people around the world have some form of anticipation for ROTF, even if it isn't their top priority. But it's OUR top priority. And so If it's #1 for one large group of people, and #2 for everyone else, logically it's still a more anticipated film than all the others, which will really only appeal to their respective fan bases.
