Director Michael Bay denies the $400 Million rumor surrounding the Transformers 3 budget.
Commenting at his website; MichaelBay.Com, Director of the Transformers Movie Franchise mentioned…
“…[Lester] has no clue about much, other then to try to get internet hype. He’s been on the movie a total of 10 days the guys is just letting his ass talk. Movie is $ just above Revenge. He knows not to talk about this movie!”And that’s Showbiz, folks…

you can probably make a real transformer with that kinda money

yeah, I agree about more respect all around, regardless of whether someone's a bigshot or a nobody, but I also reckon people should be a bit more understanding and not immediately assume the worst when someone says something candid.
Awesomus Prime
Just for the record, I disagree with his argument. Respect should be demanded from all parties involved.
Bumblethumper
Okay, so we're gonna accept a double-standard because of where the power lies in the working relationship?
And yeah, who hasn't heard someone else bitching about their boss.

At one point there was a rumor circulating around that Avatar cost $400 million to make, but it turns out the rumor was false and it came in at somewhere around $237 million.
Actual numbers are hard get since they don't want people for some reason to know what films cost to make but so far the most expensive modern film seems to have been Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End at close to $300 million.
Historically Cleopatra has been seen as the biggest when you adjust for inflation because it would easily go over $300 million.
So no there isn't a film that has gone to a budget of $400 million yet. Most of your really big Hollywood films right now come in at around $200 million to make.
Revenge of the Fallen was estimated to have cost $210 million to make.

Well, the difference here would be that Bay gave the career she (Fox) never had. For her to critisize his filming style the way she did was childish and rude. On the Contrary, Mike is Fox's and Lester's boss, so for him to call them out for their stupidity wouldn't make it as bad.
For all those that work…have you ever called your boss a moron or Hitler-like? No, because you are afraid you'd get your ass fired.
Bumblethumper
True, but I think others take much the same attitude with Fox over the slightest thing.

four hundred million seems a lot to spend on a movie.
has any movie thus far spent four hundred million to make?
Awesomus Prime
Well, I'm trying to place more emphasis on the being rude to the crew aspect than the Hitler thing (which I agree wasn't a very big deal). She had to have been pretty bad if she caused them to send a formally written letter to Bay requesting that she be excluded from the third movie. All in all, Fox seems to have deserved the hatred she got. I can't say the same for Bay.
I'm not trying to bend over backwards to defend Bay, I just think that people are really blowing this whole situation out of proportion. What he said was perfectly harmless (and kinda made me chuckle). What annoys me is whenever he does the slightest thing, people are ready to sling crap at him.

Poho
i'd be honored if michael bay called me a moron. remember that guy from AICN who got to spend a day on set, and said he smiled when bay yelled at him? loles.
i wonder how Leister will react to this. no doubt he'll hear of it if he hasn't already.
Bumblethumper
I honestly don't see much difference.
Both were unprofessional comments, which shouldn't be taken too seriously. It's inconsistent to crucify Fox for her comments and at the same time bend over backwards to make excuses for Bay for also saying things that can be taken the wrong way. When she compared Bay to Hitler, it's not like she was accusing him of genocide and anti-semitism. She was contrasting his approach to film-directing with his low-key off-set persona.

Wow, this site is REALLY in a debate mood at the moment!

See I think context does matter because of how it was done.
When it's joking on the set they are in on the joke and then they know that Bay doesn't actually think that Speight is a moron. But when you put it up on your website and there is no context to know if he's joking or serious then it's another matter. You can just as easily read it as he's serious as you can that he's joking around.
Awesomus Prime
^ As long as Speight knows that Bay was joking (which he, more than likely, was), the context really doesn't matter. People on the Internet jumping to conclusions aren't going to affect the actual relationship between the actor and director, nor are they going to alter the quality of the completed movie.
Megan Fox being rude to people on set and calling Bay "Hitler" behind his back was bad form. Bay jokingly calling Speight a moron for saying that a movie based off of '80s action figures is going to have a $400 Million budget is harmless, if not a little hilarious.
Ash from Carolina
I think it all comes down to the context of where he said it.
As an inside joke just between two friends it's okay because friends pick all the time. But when you pick with your friend you don't general put it on your official website for all the world to read.
A rough day on the set it's okay because directors have a tough stressful job and sometimes they just snap and say things they normally would not say. So you might hear it if someone was filming a behind the filming segment.
Even something with a bit of context so you knew if he was joking, mad, or what the feeling was behind it.
On your public website with no context behind it, well it's just bad form. Either it's more conflict with one of your stars because we didn't get enough conflict when Megan Fox was around or it shows poor judgment to put an out of context inside joke on your website when it could be taken the wrong way. Just seems like a good place for something like the tabloid shows to pick it up and run with it.

!He Was Joking People!
When I read Speight's [Hardcore Eddie] comments about the $400 mil, I totally though he was joking to begin with. This is the guy that voiced Cole from Gears of War and he is known to be a joker so I think that Bay is just lovin' the crazy buzz that the $400 mil comment has created. Bay knows that he was just kidding around and is playing the part by calling him a moron. They are probably best buds. He probably just calls him a moron on set all the time. (In a joking way of course…)
Digilaut
A somewhat unprofessional reply…I guess Bay didn't have his day when he said that?
You don't really want actor-director fights leaking. What they do on set is their problem, but statements like this one don't really give the movie positive hype
Awesomus Prime
Well, I can certainly imagine James Cameron responding in the same manner…
But, seriously, "harsh"? He just called him a moron. Is it mildly insulting? Yes. Harsh? Far from it.
How come whenever other directors slip up it's okay, but when Bay makes the slightest of errors everyone jumps all on his case and calls him an "egotistical ass" or whatever?
Rhetorical question. I already know the answer: Because it's a by-product of all the childish Bay-Hatred. "Oh, I don't like his movies, so I guess that makes him an asshole too". It's all so juvenile and ridiculous. Stop taking movies so personally, you guys…
