Michael Bay Comments on Josh Nizzi's Long Haul Concept user1678_pic267_1211545128
Posting on the Shoot for the Edit Forums, Michael Bay has commented on the Transformers Movie-style Long Haul concept art drawn by Josh Nizzi, who is doing design work on Transformers 2. Michael Bay's response to the artwork was:

Cool, maybe for Transformers 3.

Exactly what this means is uncertain. Does Michael Bay mean he is considering this particular design for the third film, the Constructicons as a group, or this artist's personal take on the Movie aesthetic? We will provide you with more news and updates as they become available.

DecepticonsRule:
Michael Bay has responded to a comment on his Shoot For the Edit forums in response to a question if Josh Nizzi had been hired for Transformers 2. Included was a picture of Josh Nizzi's Long Haul, to which Bay said:

"Cool, maybe for Transformers 3."

Does this mean there is no Long Haul (and by extent, Constructicons) in Transformers 2? Or is it misinformation? View the thread here: http://www.shootfortheedit.com/forum...2979#post32979
Optimus747:
I'm pretty sure there won't be any Constructicons in TF2, what with Devastator being just misinformation and all.
Poho:
i wouldn't be sad if there were no combiners in any of them
Dropshot:
This doesn't mean the contructicons won't be in the movie. As a matter of fact, with the cgi models being so expensive to build, I would expect devastator being formed by three robots, no more than that because it would raise the budget on characters that would receive no characterization and minimal screen time, so it's not worth it.
Spartan Prime:
Really, his comment doesn't really confirm, deny, or acknowledge anything in any shape of form. It lacks any kind of subject, so he could be talking about the character, the designer, the concept, etc.
Omegus Prime:
I take the lack of the word "awesome" in his post to mean he doesn't actually like it.
KA:
no long haul?!! oh my god™ TF2 is ruined!!!
Omnius:
OMG no Long Haul then I will NOT see this movie! Bay is screwing fans, waaaah waaaah! [/NoiseMaze]
AutobotMarine:
He'll find a replacement character to take his place. Don't worry this isn't totally screwed up.
Johnator:
This really doesn't add or take away anything.
sixshot2K:
"Cool, maybe for Transformers 3."That sucks!
ThomasMaximus2:
holy shit this guy is fuckin HUGE
seeker311:
Looks too much like bonecrusher
Eric:
Eh. I wouldn't really care. I just wanna see Barricade show up in TF2. Maybe another brawl with him and Bumblebee, perhaps? Please, Bay, MAKE THAT HAPPEN AGAIN!
alien:
yuhoo~~ whatever...at least here we'll have constructicons...

Agreed... I honestly don't see it working in the context of these films myself... sure in the toons, a gestalt bot is bigger and stronger. But in these films I think it'd be ridiculous not to see the flaws with this concept (i.e. 5 robots forming one leads to major weakspots on bigger bot, etc)
Infosaur:
Umm, not to overlook the forest for the Trees, but did he say he hired Josh Nizzi?

Yay for another Transfan getting a job in a field they love!
primenemesis:
that drawing is the shit I think whoever the hell is designing the robots should damn straight have a look at that dawing, i don't care if there are combiners or not, that long haul alone by himself rox ass.

It's because you're looking at the combiner (like many people are doing) with the G1 glasses on. You think combiner, you think one big bot with four smaller robots sticking out.

You gotta think bigger than that. There is more than one way to combine, and I think an advanced race of alien robots could find a way to mesh together a few robots without having any flagrant weak spots. If anything a combiner could, structurally speaking, be tougher and more durable than individual robots.
Zaraxion1021:
Lol!! My name's Josh too...........I love that Long Haul design!!
Galvatron397:
Wow, I'm a little surprised at some of the posts here. I thought that combiners were one of the things most people were looking forward to in TF2.
webz:
I personally think Bruticus would be cooler looking, as far as onscreen versions would go... but I really doubt there will be a gestalt team, unless there is an "X-Men 3" style fight at the end with untold numbers of robots. My reason for that is it lacks diversity to have 3 to 6 robots of the exact same theme (i.e. construction equipment) that really lacks the wow factor for average joes. If they do have a gestalt, it will probably be a combination of various characters (90% certain to be decepticon) that were not originally part of a gestalt team in G1, but will be a team in the movieverse.

I think the gestalts will be introduced in TF3, along with the Dinobots. The two factions compliment each other very well, and would require a major dose of suspended belief for the audience to rationalize (like Venom in Spider-Man 3).

I'm thinking (and hoping) the 2nd movie will mostly focus on Starscream and his empire, and at the end, Megatron is "reborn." The Decepticons got majorly short-shafted in the first movie. Rather than make the bad guys three dimensional (personality wise) Bay wasted time with masturbation jokes, stupid hackers, and a bunch of GI Joes that no one cared about. Bay owes the Decepticons big time.

I'm sure there will be autobots in TF2, but I hope the major focus is on the Decepticons. Think of it as a Transformers version of the 1989 Batman film, where Burton spent 90% of the film on Joker, 10% on Batman.
Autovolt 127:
Damn i as hoping for Deavstator. T-T
Thundercrackah:
I don't really care if the Constructicons or indeed any combiners at all are in TF2.
I'm more interested in who the new Autobots will be.
WWMEGATRON:
I'm disappointed !! I was hoping this would be True !!
Omega Charge:
An awesome design...that guy's HUGE!!!

Whoever they put it in it, it'll be great!
Bahamut Prime:
Damn! But apart from that, an awesome design for Long Haul!
Rayzilla Prime:
To this day, G1 Devastator is the only Combiner (that I know of) made of more than five individual robots at one time. He'll probably keep holding that record for a while if Long Haul's not going to be part of Devastator in TF2.

Awesome design, though.

Although not G1 .. Liokaiser and Dinoking from Transformers Victory were each made out of 6 individuals.
encline:
If the characters are designed this well for the movie, I know it is going to be visually stunning. Letting Josh help with this proves it is going to be BIG!!!

I am not sure if anybody else has noticed, I didn't, but Josh only has shown us this one design. Which may mean this one design is what got him the job. My biggest question is......WHEN IS JOSH GOING TO BREAK HIS CONTRACT, INFORM US ALL, JUST SO HE CAN GET FIRED!!!??? Please get fired, Josh, at our expense! HAHAH.
Railguard:
That...looks...so...freakin...cool...
jorod74:
the scale for that guy looks about right. and it is friggin' massive.
if PM or PS is geek Playboy, then TF3 with this guy or a Devastator combiner would be like mad-sick geek Hentai.
so's who gonna complain?
awesome art, man.

Piranacon and Predaking were formed of six (though in Piranacon's case, one was just a weapon).
Methos:
One would think that by using the same CGI models for the returning Autobot/Decepticon cast that there would be a bit more money for the new cast.

Besides I can't see Hasbor not be willing to pump out new Construction molds for this movie.
You just know seeing a Transformer combinder in the movie will have the little kids begging for it.
Grimwing:
That long haul makes the hulk look like wheelie.

Errrm sorry, I thought Predaking was of five?
Vince:
I personally wanna see some friggin combiners and if not that, then a whole lot of Decepticon action. Like many have said, the 'cons got totally shafted in the first movie, they were relegated to nothing but a bunch of grunts. TF2 needs to be 'Empire Strikes Back-esque" where the bad guys pull off a 'win' instead.

And maybe build up towards Megatron making a return at the end
of the movie and gaining an earth mode (an excuse for Hasbro to release another toy hah).
TeamGrimlock:
I'd like to see the constructacons. I'm wondering if they'll tie-in any beast wars characters at all. It'd maybe be something if they were trying to push for a 4th movie or so. Who knows what will happen though. Got about another year of rumors and what not before we'll see any facts =)
zzyss:
Maybe the plot could involve them bringing Bonecrusher back to life, but along with a few other constructicons, so that there'll be a rematch with Optimus... "hey this time I brought a few friends" and then proceed to beat up on Prime.

The Longhaul design looks sweet, but I get the feeling that it doesn't quite fit with the aesthetic of the ones from the first movie.

Michael Bay proboably forbid him to post anymore designs, because fans might "connect the dots".
