Megatron a Major Player in Transformers 2

So, with all the things floating around the internet recently, along with some deductive reasoning from Toy Fair this weekend, we here at TFW2005 are going out on a limb and saying that Megatron will have a role in Transformers Revenge of the Fallen, and most likely have more than a cameo or end-of-movie type appearance. Rather, a full on real deal role.

Many hardcore fans already know, or have deducted this by now from various sources, for various reasons. We know, we aren't trying to say we saw footage and got a signed letter from Michael Bay or anything, or that we are smarter than you. Trying to round things up for the casual fans too, ya know So, check out these things from today:

Megatron was seen as an 8 foot tall high-resolution promotional image at Toy Fair today. His full body CGI render was movie quality, not the adjusted lower level version seen on the Activision site in earlier weeks. This CGI render was not an adjusted version of his old form, but rather his all new form - a Tank. There are multiple toys in multiple size classes of him turning into a tank (leaked from China for like 2 years now), with matching hand drawn concept sketches.

Also seen today was an outline of a "New Character" in keychain form, which when looked at closely is an exact match of the outline to the CGI of Megatron seen in large poster form. That CGI features his tank tread feet, altered shoulder, and adjusted "pointy-er" head.

So, why would the folks at the various companies, third party licenses, and studios spend time rendering movie quality high res images, and use them to promote a toy line to fans, kids, and potential retail buyers of their product for the coming year, if it was a secondary or minor-screen time character?

Because they aren't trying to give away already leaked major characters and need something recognizable to push? Secret characters like the ones that will be seen in various promo footage being shown to retailers and industry people this week? Or rather, because he is a major player, will be in the movie via a significant role, and they are just trying to keep a lid on things. And maybe spin us super smart(ass) fans around for a while? You be the judge. Some pretty images are attached to see some of the things I am talking about.

Enjoy, bitch, moan, yell at us, etc by hitting discuss.

DUUUUDE, and you thought Galvatron was nuts in G1? Imagine that...Megs' body with Scorpy driving...sheer carnage! I'm game if they're going that way, like Scorpy shorts out Megs' spark, they merge and he turns (more) insane!

I'm not usually one for speculation or making my own plot-lines, but that would rock.

Both work for me. One makes Ratchet not such a worthless hack, since he couldn't save Jazz or does Ratchet add anything to the movie, the other explaination maintains a continuity.
Well the official explanation makes sense as in that last scene where BB talks Ratchet is still blasting him with his healing gun, which why would he do if BB already had his voice back?
Wraithier:
Haven't completely read this thread so if this is something someone has already stated my apologies.

Anyway has anyone discussed the new look of Megatron? Specifically that he is a tank, I mean he was dropped to the bottom of the ocean with Brawl (devestator), and Blackout. Perhaps Soundwave comes to earth and "cannabilizes" parts from those Transformers to revive megatron. I mean he definitely has some aspects of Brawl in his new design. Brawl was a tank, Megatron is a tank. Possibly he has some elements of Blackout (nothing I really notice though). So Brawl + Blackout + Scorponok's spark = revive Megatron?
NOCV:
His ROTF head has no more a crown than his head did in the first movie.

He will return as Megatron. All of the leaked packaging so far has only supported this theory. If the leaked designs and toys of him had shown him with an altered color scheme, I'd be open to the Galvatron idea.

Bay saying he wasn't in the movie was just misinformation. How better to piss fans off than to say that Megatron won't be in it?

ok I'm on board saying with it being Galvatron
Lament:
Definately megatron imo and the more screen time he gets the better especialy since he was basicaly a special guest in the first movie.
Megs is back complete with (updated) fusion cannon and a serious case of badassness!!

My money's on Galvatron. I'm broke, so I'm not sure that means much.

Interesting enough, I looked up "galvanize" and other than it being
a process by which you coat a metal with zinc, it also means,

"to startle into sudden activity; stimulate."

"Medicine/Medical. to stimulate or treat (muscles or nerves) with induced direct current."

... maybe similar to the process that revives him. Just my fuzzy logic.

Where did he say this? I've seen people talk about this but have not produced the interview where he said this.

It is in the video forum the thread is entitled "and you make us sick"

Bay gives me the feeling he's making Transformers movies cause it brings in money.

As far as the Transformer concept goes he hates it.
dragon:
all ready knew about that toy companies wouldnt just make figures of characters that are not in the film befroe its release date concept art, figures or anything else like that.

toy companies only make new figures after the film is released but only as repaints only or as scout class members if they did it before the film then its only official that character is in the film for sure as camero, or major role nothing more than that.

if you think about it you can predict whos in the movie sometimes with out concpet art just buy looking at leaked toys floating around the net as long there not labled scout class.

hasbro wouldnt just make a figure about megatron unless they know for sure hes in out before the films release date
shroobmaster:
IMO Megatron's new design is badass in person, my favorite Megatron design in a long time, so the lack of him in the movie WOULD hurt it for me.

Rubbish, many people dislike the old cartoon and love the new film and vice versa. Bay made the concept believable and interesting to him and a general audience. For the record, he stated in Entertainment Weekly he chose to stop watching the G1 movie.

Actually, I could care less if Megatron is in the film.
We'll get some fantastic action, fantastic visual effects, Prime losing half of his face, a couple goofy looking autobots, a dissapointing Devastator with an even worse toy, an awesome Fallen and a Jetfire who may or may not need a cane, and a sh1t load of robots in multiple locations around the world.

Megatron is irrelevant.
Anditte:
Megatron is the only Transformer we know from the movie apart from Frenzy with antenna-like hands. We saw Antenna-like hands pinning Spike, sorry Sam, down during the scene inter-cut with scenes of Sam and Starscream. But Starsceam's hands aren't antenna-like. This could be Megatron.

This.

I'll wind up purchasing the new tank form toy because it looks really neat, but I think there's so much stuff going into this movie that I'm OK with Megatron either in the movie or not. There looks to be plenty of awesomeness already.

That is my take on it as well. Megatron would be icing on the cake. I'll enjoy having his toy more too.

Yes, he does hate it, and he hated it from the gate. I think at best, he's tolerating it, because it brings him some $$$$$, and I'd even go so far to say that maybe even Bay is satirizing the whole Transformers concept: I mean why else would we have those FUGLY Autobots known as Skids and Mudflap, the flames on Prime, making all the Decepticons look ugly as hell because they're evil (which is one-dimensionalizing them, becuase not everything that is ugly is evil and vice-versa) and all the other radical departures from the source material? I'll never forget Bay saying in an interview, "I don't want to do some TOY movie!".

Yes, I know it's Bay's movie, and he can do what he wants, but at the same time, in my opinion, when you do something in a film, especially one based on previous material, and then you say in interviews, "I did that because I wanted to", that becomes a tired justification that gets redundant and lame really fast. Something must have a reason besides, "I want to", and "it looks cool". Just my two cents. Regardless, I'll be watching TFROTF, but as always I'm cautiously optimistic.

has any1 heard anything about the autobots and decepticons teaming up in the end to beat the fallen?

Why not? The original cartoon was mediocre at best. Far better cartoons existed in the 80's. Michael Bay is allowed to state his opinions on it. Even Talentless Hacks are allowed free speech.

Since Tony told me to 'yell at him,' I am doing so in a rational and logical fashion. Funny when anyone has an opposing point a view (even when said view is explained calmly and logically), all forums go from a democratic discussion to a totalitarian dictatorship and an oppression of free speech.
shroobmaster:
I'm pretty sure that Bay loves the concept.

He just dislikes the G1 take on it.
Alienbot:
Exactly, I enjoy Adam West's take on Batman as a spoof, some people hate it even more than Schumacher!

Oh, and these "fugly" robot designs are beautiful. You heard me! Starscream's more of a heartthrob than the original!
seeker311:
the most predictable scenario for me, would be Megatron showing up to put the Fallen in his place.

Please no! As if that theme hasn't been overkilled to the extreme (and highly typical of multiple sequel movies...the 3 TF movies could end up being a carbon copy of the X-Men movie trilogy).

One possible thing working against that idea is that it seems the final battle will indeed be in Egypt but involving a fight against the combined Devastator (and if the autobots are fighting along side him instead of against them that would be uber lame, and just doesn't seem right given the menace they're making Devi be).

It doesn't surprise me that Megatron is still alive. People I know keep thinking Megatron is deader than a door nail, and they're wrong. It's MEGATRON. He's pure evil, and pure evil cannot be defeated, much less destroyed, so easily.

But he's definitely in the movie for sure, because we saw his hand pinning Sam to the ground, as well as seeing his leg in the background.
topnotch97:
is there gonna be a third movie? =)
Scourgatron:
And in the real world, why would the feared Emperor of Destruction, change his name to fucking Galvatron?

I like G1 Galvatron but this incarnation of Megatron holds himself in higher regard than his other counterparts, well maybe not Animated.

Except that Movie Megatron was more of a bumbling idiot than his G1 counterpart. First he crashes on Earth and gets entombed in ice, then he gets captured by a bunch of humans with some coolent, then after being 'resurrected' for about 1/2 hour, he gets his ass handed to him by a teenage kid.

Worst. Movie. Villain. Ever.

I'm afraid between Bay's editing style and the amount of new bots, all this movie is going to be is a series of jump cuts, with a lot of of course...

I think this concept is carried out by Prime and Jetfire combining, not both factions as a whole.

Who does Micheal Bay think he's fooling he was in the trailer

Bay says he'll lie about the movie.

Bay says Megatron isn't in the movie.

Megatron has a ridiculous amount of production work dedicated to him and here's the kicker, he's shown in the trailer. And yet, some people are still convinced that either Megatron won't be in the movie or he'll be called Galvatron instead.

Folks, you're giving Bay way too much credit.

The article makes a compelling case, and I've always thought "The Fallen" had a double meaning anyway (both "The Fallen" and "the fallen"), so it makes sense. Bring on Megatron!

I don't think it can reasonably be disputed that Megatron is in the movie. I don't think the TFW staff needed to make a thread declaring such. That's unnecessary and not what I think the role of the staff here aught to be.
StarscreamKills:
As the title says, I'm not picky about the name of the guy. I would, however, like to see a tank again. I'm new to all of this, TFW2005, etc., but I really liked the Armada Megatron/Galvatron (esp. the shiv up his sleeve!) b/c he was a tank. Yes, lots of corniness & cheese, but hey I like the tank angle!

Then again, for the movie, him being a tank could be bad as how's he gonna get around so much? Maybe he'll need his pimp ride Unicron-redeco Cyclonus back!
Darkspeed:
I'm firmly in the camp of "Galvatron for TF2" right now. I mean, no one has (To my knowledge anyway...) officially announced the name Megatron appearing the film or the toyline. It's not the first time in any continuity he's changed name, so why break the habit of a lifetime? And hell, for all we know as of right now it might not even be the same bot! Who's to say this isn't a new character who's come to Earth?

But hey, we can't say anythnig for certain because we don't know anything for certain. And I'm quite happy to wait for the release to find out the truth. But just for the sake of arguing... Galvatron. ^^
shroobmaster:
Actualy, the FAB toy got the name "Megatron" on it.
