Jonah Hill in Talks for Transformers 2! PDF Print E-mail
Written by Stephanie Sanchez
Tuesday, 29 April 2008
Word on the street is Jonah Hill, that's right the highly talented thesp from masterpieces like Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Superbad, is in talks to star opposite Shia LaBeouf in Michael Bay's Transformers 2.
EW.com had the rumor posted today. They say Hill is in negotiations to play LaBeouf's college roommate. Looking back at the casting sheet we have for the film, the college roommate reads as follows,
[CHUCK] 19-25 yrs., Sam's roommate at Princeton. He runs a conspiracy theory website. Funny in an irreverent, edgy way, he is shocked to see his conspiracy theories come to life. (2nd Lead)
If this goes through expect an announcement to be forthcoming from the trades! Transformers 2 is expected to start shooting this summer! |
Is it true? Or is it
A LIE BY MICHAEL BAY?
Dinobot Nuva:
Jonah FTW, though I'd laugh to see them try and filter him behind the scenes. His mouth puts Shia's to shame.
DN
Bumble Prime:
i didnt know judd apatow was producing TF2
I love this guy, and he would be perfect roommate material and comedic relief
Pauly T:
Just when I thought there was no possible way for Bay to make a WORSE TF movie...
Jonah Hill is a blight on humanity.
The single most unfunny creature to stain the world with his presence.

Your avatar makes me uncomfortable, but I cannot for the world figure out why.
The Asp: Who?
*googles*
"Funny in an irreverent, edgy way."
This does not bode well.
Optimus747:
Yeah...as much as I liked Superbad and such, I really don't want to see this kid in TF2.

You know Swindle's always working another angle...
Ktulu:
Yeah, let's make it another edgy comedy! THIS AINT NO CARTOON
Switchblade:
I'm having a hard time buying this one. This isn't Hill's kind of movie. Only way I could see him doing it is if he was a big fan of the toys as a kid.
Torque:
him in it would be so cool! people actually tell me all the time that i look like him, but with different hair color-damn, wish i had tried out and was 2 years older. ARGH!
llamatron:
Oh God yes please make this so.

Hyperbolic rhetoric aside...eh. I can't say I'd be thrilled with this, but I didn't really dig the cast of the first film either.

What if there was a HUGE FREAKING PAYCHECK?
ekocher:
i can see this happening....
Soundwave84:
so i have mixed feelings about this one because i love jonah hill but seeing him in TF2 i dont know if that would work. yet then again i can see it working! So id have to see it to believe it then i would have to see it to see if it would fit and that is my opinion and i am sticking to it.

Although it was probably just a prop given to him by the producers/director, Jonah was playing with FAB Claw Slash Ramjet during a skit he did on Saturday Night Live this last year. If that was indeed his idea to use a Transformers figure, he could very well be a Transformers fan.
Dark_Convoy:
So, I guess he's gonna be this "Sam's roommate" character we have been hearing about.

He better be. This could go either horribly right, or horribly wrong. I've seen this guy be both hilarious and stupid as hell. Here's hoping he's hilarious. (which he should be, considering it's Transformers)
Kaijumaster:
UHGG.... Last year I complained that there's never a film out anymore that doesn't have Shai, now I need to switch my complaint to this guy...and neither I find funny or talented.
Ace96:
Are you guys serious? Give the guy a break. Besides we do not even know if this is true.
robvega214:
i dunno ...havin this dude jump on board....would prolly mean LESS BOT TIME on screen. Seein as how he is an up and comin young star.
mordecai6:
I love Jonah hill but seriously? I can't stand bay's or the writer's type of humor from the last one and I was under the impression there would be more robot with this caliber of an actor and the huge casting call it seems that might not happen.
Lord Chumley:
looks like the leaked scriptswere true, robot battles=cool loads of humans=baaaaaaaaaaad
why bay why
PunkyBrew:
Jonah Hill should be undone by God.
Socialvegetable:
Ugh, I hope this isn't the case. Little Chris Farley should stick to slapstick films and Judd Apatow tripe.
iheartarcee:
I wonder which transformer he's going to get high with
Tell_Story:
Wasn't this kid in the first movie - Wasn't he the, "Run, OMG this is better than Armagedon!" kid?
Pass. I don't mind TF being funny, but I want a real good story too, not just another 'dumb summer movie' that's fun to watch.
Satomiblood:
I don't care either way. But what I'd like to know, and let's say this turns out to be true, why the hell is Sam going to Princeton...unless saving the world from Megatron got him a scholarship or grant there.
seeker311:
Hell no!!! why do I want to see a pedo in the making?
nkelsch:
Sounds like a bit part... who cares?
This is like the Dane Cook rumor last year.
meh_cd:
Jesus I hope he isn't in the movie at all. They plug this guy into all of those "hip" comedies that have come out recently and he isn't that funny. Just stop!
on_a_warpath:
When i first saw this, I thought it was gonna be the guy who play Sock from Reaper, which if they were going for a comic releif role, would have been awesome, BUT NO they HAD to put in someone from one of the worst movies on the planet! on a lighter nnote, it looks like his role will be a lot like miles'.
smkspy:
Ugh, no just no. I can tolerate the guy as an actor, but the comedy in TF needs to stop. Its already bad enough Shia thinks hes funnier than he actually really is, but do we really need more plucky comedy relief.
Common Bay Hot chick>comedy relief any day.
TRANS+CRAZY:
Why do we need this guy in TF2? And why does the roommate have to be some funny-guy conspiracy theorist? The conspiracy theorist guy was okay in the Infiltration comic, but for live-action TFs? No...
Noisemaze:
Jeez! I gotta start avoiding the boards this early on? They're already trying to spoil the damn sequel. Every little tidbit of news has to be posted on the front page. It would be nice if all the movie news was posted in the movie forum,I can easily avoid that, but this front page crap is the worst!
It's gonna be impossible to find out exactly when the new Wal-Mart & Target exclusives hit stores while avoiding movie spoilers.
Mega-con:
I wouldn't mind him in it.
aey103:
I was a bit worried about the first movie when it was leaked that Bernie Mac was cast to star in it. That turned out fine because I think Bernie Mac was cast pretty well for the part he played. Jonah Hill being casted for the sequel equally makes me worry but I am sure it will turn out fine and Jonah Hill will fit in well for the part he was casted for.
Gingerchris:
I smell another scene about eating donuts.

Ain't that the truth. Seriously, Jonah's better off in a comedy movie than in an action movie like Transformers 2.

Wow - and that's saying a lot... I'm glad Shia finally cleaned up for interviews at least.
Dropshot:
Why are the producers casting this type of character when Shia delivers a good comic performance?
It seems totally unnecesary, and honestly, I would like somebody else casted in the role.
VAwitch:
Perhaps if they let him improvise/ad lib, as it's been reported Shia did a fair bit especially w/ his parents & Bernie Mac - then it may work out OK. for comedy, let comedians do their thing. I just hope they don't over-play the "OMG - there really IS a govt consp" thing, like they did Glenn's over-eating/sugar buzz.
Deefuzz:
All this hate is hilarious.
If the role is true the role Jonah would be playing would suit him well enough, and we do not even know if Jonah is going to be in the movie or not.
How about we wait until we see a little bit more, or the actual movie, before we all flip out?
Dropshot:
This is true, no actor would let himself be part of just a misinformation campaign. The question is if he was already casted or if they rejected him.

Agreed. I fear this may be the first in a long line of useless characters...
Elvin Pena:
Love Johan Hill, but don't think he's quite the right fit for this movie. Still, as Deefuzz said, let's get an official word on this before we sound off.
bradinmo:
I'm going to go ahead and flip out now. They browsed the boards to get fan feedback for the last movie so I'm hoping they do the same for this one. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, DO NOT PUT THAT ASS IN THE MOVIE!!!
Tenebrouser:
Where did the Jonah Hill hate come from? Geez, people, calm down your fanboy nonsense.
I hope he gets in now for spite.
Grimlock_13:
Jonah = win.
Though John Turturro is usually win and Michael Bay made him suck total ass in the first one...but I'll remain cautiously optimistic if Jonah is indeed in the sequel.
crimbot:
Wow. After All this hate I dunno if I should say that I really like him. I figured anybody who cameo'd in 40 year old virgin, about a guy with a massive toy collection might be okay in all our books. He's okay in mine. I like his style in 40yov, superbad, and knocked up. So Jonah, do you wanna party or no?
