In Germany, Revenge of the Fallen will be known as Transformers - Die Rückkehr (or in English, Transformers - The Return).
Does this title hold any deeper meaning, or does it merely refer to the fact that the Autobots are returning to the big screen for another summer blockbuster? Sound off on our 2005 Boards!

well the Fallen could have been on earth before the first movie, so he could still "return"
LimeWire:
Bay said, that all 3 Films could stand alone, so your tory is not logic for the people who see the film
and why should a million years old ancient transformer hide on earth?
Spiderus Prime:
I think Animated Blitzwing will happy with that tilte.

Bottom Out:
sounds like to me that the fallen are the decepticons and "the return" refers to the decepticons returning to earth. you cant "return" if you never left, and the autobots never left, only the decepticons did. You cant just call a sequel "The return" and introduce some unknown transformer that had nothing to do with the first movie as returning

It could just be that the title doesn't translate well into German...
-edit-
PS:
Mods, what's a "Revnge?"
Supremus:
Dude, where's my trailer?
Pengutron:
Congratulations, we've turned into the Japanese. Other countries are having to take our horribly long and painful movie titles and simplify them into something better.
TF@TM:
I'm still agreeing with Bottom Out on the whole "The Fallen" scenario anyway. I may be wrong, but I'll wait till the film is out.
Eric:
Rückkehr, Rache, etwas das gleiche Ding für mich.
(That's German for "Return, Revenge, somewhat the same thing for me.")

Reading too much into German titles is probably a bit of a blind alley, in all honesty; from my experience, on the occasions that the Germans to bother to translate titles and so forth, the ones they choose are often incredibly generic and simplified. Just look at the German titles of many Animated episodes, for example: "Home Is Where the Spark Is" became "Megatron's Return". "Headmaster" became "The Mad Genius". "Rise of the Constructicons" became "Bulkhead's New Friends".
My guess is the same as Sol Fury's: that the "Return" alluded to by the German title is just meant in a wholly generic way to denote that the Transformers are back, as with, say, The Mummy Returns or Batman Returns. Course, I could be wrong, but either way I'm not forming any theories based on this info...
Monkey-Hands:
Germans are stupid when it comes to translating movie titles.
Ash from Carolina:
My guess would be that the German marketing team thought the title just sounded better and told people the important bit that another movie was on the way.

The published interview was soon censored to remove all references to the Fallen.
Hell, Furman is writing both the sequel comic adaptation and The Thirteen, which likely tells the story of the first Thirteen Transformers, of which the Fallen is a member. Apparently Hasbro considers the project a big deal. A coincidence? I doubt it. Voiceroy: Quote:

I don't even see this as news. It reveals exactly nothing about the film except for a movie title in another language.
Also, correct spelling and punctuation appear to have gone the way of the dinosaurs. Does nobody use Firefox at all for their browser? It tells you the very MOMENT you've spelled something incorrectly.
General Magnus:
I´m curious to see what will be the Portuguese subtitle...
Laughing Man:
The Germans a kind, loving peaceful people. They don't have a word for 'Revenge', the do have 3 ways to say cute and furry - including 'wienerschnitzel.'
Prime Aspect:
Actually, "The Return" refers to the number of shelf-warmers in (insert name of your least-favorite toyline here so as not to offend anyone) being returned to Hasbro for burying with all those E.T. cartridges. mondo:
I read somewhere about a similar plot that is on imdb. so maybe

Wienerschnietzel is Austrian, and i'm not amused about you posting! Starscreamer95:
So maybe the Fallen isnt in it... I had my doubts... oh well, least we got the Constructicons/Devastator and Soundwave! Laughing Man: Quote:

It was either 'wienerschnietzel' or a Hogan's Heroes joke. Didn't know if we had any Colonel Klink fans in the house - plus any excuse to work 'wiener' into a post.
Back on topic though, I read the synopsis and yes I came across something similar. Certainly sounds pretty good if that is the plot.
LimeWire:
Ah okay, my bad ,sorry! Railguard:
Well that sucks, I was hoping to see the Fallen as a character in the new movie. Oh well, at least there will be Devastator!!!!! Laughing Man:
I don't know...the Fallen could still appear couldn't he? I mean, the 'Return' part could just simply refer to the 'Cons coming back for revenge. And who knows maybe somehow they get the Fallen involved.
I mean just because we know The Fallen as being trapped in Limbo, created by Primus, one of the original 13 and yadda, yadda, yadda doesn't mean that's how it will be in the movie.
We know more 'Cons show up, maybe The Fallen is imprisoned and the 'Cons spring 'em so they'll help him out. Maybe nobody liked the Fallen but the 'Cons figure he's their best chance to take out the Autobots.
But, I still think it's just a quickie translation and not that much should be read into it.
hudemx:
Well I think that Transformers Die Rückkehr isn't going to be the german Title anyway!
Normaly the german Title or ''Con''Title is first published in the Teaser or the normal Trailer for the actual Movie!
For alot of Reason I think the german Title will be Transformers 2 or that this Moviedatabase ''Filmstarts.de'' hasn't got the Full Name of the Movie yet. Maybe it will be: Transformers Die Rückkehr der(des) Gefallenen (Transformers The Return of the Fallen (sing or plur)
I'm going to contact Paramount Germany and going to ask if the Source is reliable at all! We'll see what they tell!
kjeevahh:
i prefer this title for a sequel myself GW_Freak: Quote:

Murasame:
I think there is no meaning behind that title. It's just an often used uninspired subtitle which many films here in Germany have. Films in Germany often get stupid subtitles...
I don't like the german title. Rise of the Fallen sounds better to me.

Ah... sorry, just read that you refered to something else and this did not reflect your personal thoughts...
omegagoalie:
I like the German title better. "The Return" sounds better than "Revenge Of The fallen" to me. "Transformers: The Return". Rolls nicely. Though I will admit it sounds like not much thought would have gone into that title, but still better that ROTF.
