Megatron in particular is quite different to the original concept designs seen some time ago - he is significantly more bulky and dangerous looking.
The Live Action Movie Blogs' source also reports that returning characters Optimus Prime, Ironhide, Bumblebee and Starscream are largely unchanged from their appearances in the first movie.

Perhaps Bay was paying homage to the original G1 toy soundwave34:
Truely Megatron is transformed. The movie is doing better now than the movie
in 2007.
Mastergeorge:
Freakin sweet.
pscoop:
Yup, I can get behind that. Ravage especially, looks so freakin' mean.
BB Shockwave:
Yuk. What's that, Scorponok and Megs merged into Scorpotron? Still no fusion cannon - another epic fail.
100% sure bet that Ravage won't transform, OR talk.
Also, mr. Giger just called, he wants his designs back...
Rumble02:
that is soooo cool
Fit For natalie:
The cannon is in his right claw.

Arthropods (or informally, "bugs" if you will) are pretty bizarre in general, and come in so many wacky shapes, they provide an easy model for "alien" traits... or at least what we perceive as "alien".
In the case of Ravage, my comment was more attuned to the fact that he's fairly deliberately panther-like, but with a bunch of superficial "alien" buglike aspects stuck on top. It doesn't feel like a very distinctive design... though all things considered, I should be happy that he looks vaguely catlike at all. Look what happened to poor Frenzy! His inspiration seemed to be a Gremlin mixed with a cutlery drawer.

Silent_Magnus:
Yeah, I understand the "arthropod"-like comments for a few of the movie designs.
I'm just not seeing it for ravage.
process:
Hm.. Megatron and Ravage appear to be the only two movie transformers with similar colors, silver and gold. Perhaps Ravage is Megatron's gimp arm? Or maybe Megatron's just going for the crab look.
kenm2474:
I have to wait and see. Megs looks pretty much the same ravage on the other hand looks all sorts of Wicked.

also... it DOES look like ravage has binocular vision... above on what could be considered the "helmet" it seems that up and on either side of the orange.... nose? there are roundish black spots... eyes? artiepants:
i'm not a movie hater, but i am a Movie Megatron/Frenzy Hater ~ the style of those designs never worked for me (the shredded metal with virtually no definition look). so these are fail by me.
Ravage especially looks ridiculously generic and could be from almost any sci-fi movie.
kylash327:
its nice to see megatron has more large, smooth panels, not so many tiny pieces and broken looking bits everywhere. GHis legs and arms are alot simplified over TF1.
RodimusZero:
SOOOOO shi**y. I'll be the hater here, I'm really not pleased with cyclops ravage (though the head is my biggest problem with it) and Megatron just looks really thrown together. I much preferred his first incarnation to this, it just looks clumsy with tree trunk legs, a super-tiny waist, and then a ton of random panels and uneven arms for his torso. Granted I was hoping for a fusion cannon on his right arm, but the crab arm isn't much of a consolation prize
Fort Max:
Ravage looks a lot less Geigery and more unique, I approve.
Megs also looks good, I liked the earlier tank mode leaked pic and hope that's what they go with.
Vangelus:
Loving Megatron's MURDERARM. XD
Kaijumaster:
Well Megatron looks... "Better" Ravage looks like Slag, total Bayformer, I thought the first image actually looked Feline, sigh....
Astrotrain52:
Liking these.
Ravage looks like a mechanical version of a Howler from the Resistance series (but with one eye, not 4)
Megatron looks cool, and I'm now okay with him returning, so long as he doesn't have a retarded revival story. Is it just me, or does his right hand look like an eagle talon?

But now I'm wondering if Santa is going to ask him to lead his slay.
blitzwingfan94:
My god, Ravage looks demonic.
Puppetdisaster:
and the crap, just gets crappier , yuck on both
shroobmaster:
Oh GOD.
VERY happy that I didn't get any Megatron toy from the first movie.
Omnius:
Colour me impressed!
Megatron - the design seems just as intricate but 'cleaner' than TF1 Megs, with larger plate sections covering the torso. Is his arm cannon surrounded by a pincer of sorts?
Ravage - hoo boy! I can't wait to see this thing in action. Getting a strong Scorponok vibe, but more agile. I wonder if the tail houses a weapon of some sort? It seems to be there for more than balance, given the object on the end.
Getting more pumped for RotF, and looking forward to seeing how these guys turn out in toy form. samtastic: Quote:

Ravage is awesome. I'm at a loss of words for Megatron on the other hand... Pathetic.

I'm just not seeing it for ravage. | It's not that he's all that arthropod-ish fundamentally. He's essentially feline, but with all this extra buglike kibble attached to the design solely to make him look more "monstrous" and "alien". In other words, I think it's a cheap design approach. He's just a robot cat with spikey weird stuff stuck all over him.
Maybe I'm being pretentious though. Superficial design cues can make or break a character... it just happens in this case that I don't like the look of it.

Mr. Sinister:
WOOOOOOOOOOOOO. I gotta go change now.
dr.b:
I have never liked Megatron's hands.his fingers look like windshield wipers and just about as easy to break. His right arm is more solid, but I wish they would redo the fingers on his left hand.
Prometheum5:
They're both gross, but at least they're a little smoother and less balled-up tinfoil looking.
Kimmer: Quote:

Blackout:
Awesome pics, Ravage is going to be badass in the film. Hope they make decent toys out of these.
BTW, does Ravage not only see out of his eye, but can transmit video from his eye to the circle in Soundwave's chest?? Chimeran: Quote:

zmog | None of Ravage's spikes strike me as especially arthropod like. He has a spiky spine. Vertebrates have those. Frankly, his pointy decorations remind me more of a fish than anything. Vertebrates are just as prone to pointy decorations as arthropods, and overall, in Ravage's case they look more fish-like than bug-like to me.
Ironmonk:
Is it me or does Ravage looks like a repaired version of Scropionox! Look at the tale!
Soundwave84:
Wow they are both very sick!!! I love ravage looks nasty something that the follower of the Fallen would be! And megs is crazy looking!
Optimus747:
Megatron owns.
I don't really like Ravage yet, though.

Perhaps it's for no other reason than the fact that he has legs instead of flippers, and that he so clearly owes a debt to Giger's Alien, but he remains in my eyes a robot cat infected with insect styling simply to look creepy-crawly and bizarre. As an aside, I'll point out that Scorponok got to look like a more or less proper scorpion, but Ravage has to be de-mammalized to increase his fright index... much like most of the Decepticon Bayformers for that matter.

Lazerwave:
Ravage looks great! I hope there is a toy of him. if they already made a soundwave toy how are they going to make Ravage.
ease:
Best new info since the Soundwave toy! I think Megs looks better than before. The Ravage design is just ok for now,but it may grow on me later. Good stuff!
Hiro Prime:
Megatron is an improvement from the last movie, but I don't like the orange eye smack in Ravage's forehead. If it's not his eyes and the black spaces on the side of his head are, then I'd like to know why his nose lights up and not his eyes like every other movie TF.
I also hope they didn't take away his hip launchers (as seen in the first pic leaked of him) in favor of that tail spear/blade/whatever.
Batman:
These two are going to f@#k the Autobots up bad. Can't wait to see them in action.
protostar8:
I still have no clue who I'm looking at. Very Generic looking. Horrible designs to be called Transformers. Bayformers = EPIC Failure...

Gozer-Bot:
I will never be happy unless I see this jointless abomination transferred unaltered into CGI.
I hate this movie for its inspiring and intricate designs and its mind-boggling transformation sequences. I hate it because I hate myself.
a person:
If that is Megatron's finalized robot design, then I'm going to be led to disappointment.
It looks to me as if Megatron's eaten a few to many chocolate bars during the break between the first and second movie. His new design lacks originality and it lacks any consistency. This design is in no way an improvement over the first Movie Megatron.
Judging by the way Megatron's completely flawed design clashes with itself, it looks as though Tony Stark could build a much better robot, in a cave with scraps. I'd much rather see the first Movie Megatron's design reused instead of this.
AMG:
Ravage looks pretty vicious. I'm looking forward to seeing that cat in action.
aussieprime:
I'm luving the new Megs design...although not 100% sure on the crab arm atm.
Ravage however......im liking the body, but the head and tail just don't do it for me. The teeth are way too long and don't get me started on that 'eye'.
I like how his looks are based on Scorponok but his tail doesn't need to be.
Scorponok had a wicked tail because he was a Scorpion, Ravage is a Panther....no need for it, Id rather see the hip mounted jets/cannons.
I also hope he doesnt talk and think it would be cool if the spines shown in the pic stand up like hair when he gets angry.
hupla:
If we get a ravage toy that transforms a cheetor repaint would be the most hilarious thing ever.
NothingHead:
They're looking better. I think the production team is beginning to understand that eight million tiny moving parts make for a great deal of visual confusion. Megatron is a lot more solid, and it makes what I'm looking at much clearer to understand. More humanoid hands would create better reference points, but even those are an improvement over the six-fingered shrapnel he had in the first flick.
Ravage looks bizarre, but very threatening. I actually really dig his design. I guess he turns into a truck and stores in Soundwave's torso? not a bad idea..

I hate this movie for its inspiring and intricate designs and its mind-boggling transformation sequences. I hate it because I hate myself. | Sarcasm painted in broad strokes misses the obvious... that there are myriad possibilities between the awkward artistry of G1 masterpieces like the original Ravage, and the overwrought Giger-biting abomination that has been designed for TF2.
The true challenge would have been intricate designs and mind-boggling transformations, without cheap design choices that drift too far from what might be considered the elegant simplicity and familiarity of the original inspiration.
In other words, would Ravage suddenly suck if he didn't look like a cyclopean fishbone monster? Is it inconceivable that one might design a sophisticated and compelling Ravage that holds truer to the feline grace of the source figure, without superfluous frightshow gimmicks?
All of this is sort of beside the point, as I have been asking the same question of all the movie designs since they were leaked before the first movie. I realize that Bay has established a distinct design aesthetic, and that Ravage is more or less consistent with it... but I have to disagree when someone implies that there was no "friendlier" option for a more "traditional" aesthetic.
