Devastator Confirmed for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen lh
TFW2005 has received confirmation that the combiner Devastator will appear in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. The confirmation includes the following details:

- Seven construction vehicles merge to form Devastator
- Devastator has lots of upper body strength, like a gorilla
- Not just green, some of the vehicles are red and yellow
- The previously seen Long Haul concept art (image to left) by Josh Nizzi is legit

But hey - who cares if we hear that? We already might hear "Terminator 3" with this Alice character.
I agree--Devastator was around long before Power Rangers, and the toy on which Devastator is based was around before Voltron, I think (I might be wrong about this last claim). But in any case, the idea of combining robots isn't unique to Transformers, Power Rangers or Voltron--still, TF has the advantage of the cool sentient-robots-from-another-planet thing, which is really way cooler than those other shows, by far.

The terminator 3 comparison struck me first, but I can see the roots in the (sigh) "pretenders" series, so it's not overt plagiarism, at least. And again, the idea of mimicry and disguise is really central to TF, and has been there all along. It would only be a matter of time before the smaller ones would try to imitate us humans.

Is anyone worried that they said Devestator will have alot of upper body strength like a gorilla....I picture him walking on his knuckles.....could be not so great......
QuantumShock:
Do want the toys, liek nao !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So, is that Motormaster Artwork by the same guy legit as well?

I doubt it's seven CONSTRUCTION vehicles.

It's probably 7 vehicles, some of which are construction vehicles. I could see some military hardware as part of Devastator.

And to be honest, I won't mind if we get some parts-forming at this scale.

Link to the Motormaster art?

Or are you thinking of that art from DM.net Jester and Jolin did?

Imagine how huge and awesome the toys would be if they were all Leader classes? Know it wouldn't happen, but I would say that would be nearly as awesome as Peter Cullen having a cameo in ROTF.

I wonder how long we've got before Hasbro sends down the Decree of Fandom Silence and makes you guys remove all pictures, lest they shall reign down from their totalitarian throne a "cease and desist all excitement for the franchise" court order.

"Here you bastards: we'll use you as a test class for our ideas by means of shitty-resolution, watermarked jpegs, then we'll rip them from your clammy, nerdy clutches before you can cry out to momma," they say with contempt. At least, this is how I imagine the requests to remove our crappy, bitty-itty pictures must go.

Oh, I HOPE they do that.

By doing that they'll be confirming that the picture is legit.
Robogeek28:
Hmmmm interesting. Can't say I'd be excited about the toys because I just don't like the movie aethestic in plastic, but if this is indeed true I'll be a happy clam watching this guy kick all sorts of tailpipe in the movie!
JCz28:
Yes! I hope we do get to see (the real)Devastator in the movie.
Lupis Convoy:
GAH!! Need more info. NOW

Ironic post coming from a dude named Simian!
T16skyhopp:
this can still be false information. right?
Orodruin:
Here's the real kicker- that's not a regular dumptruck. That's one of the massive, uber-huge ones that's about the size of a house by itself. Devastator will be the size of a small sky scraper by that scale!

Really? Because that's what I'm most excited about - it's strange, but I always picture a live-action Devestator as a giant brute with a huge upper body just running around and trashing the place à la King Kong.

Yeah, I know. It's awesome.

...would anyone object to a massive jet being part of this combiner at all?

Anyone? Come on, you know the answer to that.

military is ok for Devastator, but Audi R8....
If the "10 vs 10"is true,I think most Decepticons have to be part of Devastator.

Lucs:
Well after reading this whole thread here's my theory

7 vehicles to form one big giant Gorilla could be bad or great. I think the Gorilla thing makes sense for his stability, if he actually ressembles a gorilla

7 construction vehicles has got to be a mix of smaller, maybe scout class to voyager ie dumptruck size, to be marketable.

If he actually stood up taller than say Unicron there might be safety hazards to deal with in the toy version (Hence more gorilla stance reinforcement).

Final thoughts - at first I was very skeptical but now it seems somewhat possible
Easterling Capt:
I doubt he will be that big. I say as some other poster it will be the smaller dump trucks. and other vechiels.

Other way is that only Long Haul is this gigantic and the arms and legs and head are smaller bots.

I hope bonecrusher is dead ..they can just as well use Demolisher.-

and ther eis a 7 Constructicon. E-hobby Haulers (green grapple) bio istates he is the 7th Constructicon but he did not want to go the way the other 6 did.

The Devastator from the first Classics was packaged in combiner mode as well as the G1 giftsets.

Hopefully Hasbro won't disappoint.
However, I can't see the individual Constructions being any bigger then deluxe size. So I can't be too excited. Meaning Devastator will probably be barely a leader size when fully assembled.
Hasbro did so well with scale for the last film toys, this one is just too much of a challenge for price points.
But a supreme scale fully assembled Devastator would be true justice.
Well, movie Starscream and Blackout were way off scale (voyagers). I wouldn't be surprised at all if the Devastator was also scaled down some.

This thread is still good news though
Splendic:
Not a HUGE deal, but why is this frontpaged without a spoiler warning?
Dropshot:
This is the best news so far for the movie, but seven robots? and why haven't we seen any? Do they only appear in one scene as the leaked treatment suggested?

This might be misinformation, although it's a cruel joke to play to the fans.
MrRoy:
All of this gorilla talk. It is stated that he just has a lot of upper body strength like a gorilla, says nothing about physical resemblance.
jtuarus:
i think LH is the main body like in g1 and we have seen shots of other construction equipment from other sources id love for him to be uber huge like Fort max huge and the safety tessts have to be on the individual toys right not the combined?
CDBROWN48:
FREAKIN' SWEET!!!! I just put this pic on my screensaver........here's to Devastator the first and still best Transformer combiner in my opinion!!!! Come on 2009 and get here already.......2008 is done in my book!!!
Zero Prime:
And to think, the last Transformer I bought was US MP Starscream and I said I would buy no more after that. Looks like I have to break my word if this comes out as a toy.
vektsilver:
Not that im complaining at all but I get the feeling the combiner for this is only going to be 7 construction vehicles that combine to devastator. Thats one character.

I would be highly impressed if all 7 were individual Transformers as well. Either way its a big effing win.

It would be REALLY REALLY HARD for them to screw up such a great concept. Just the fact its a combiner is great enough and we pretty much know longhaul will be an individual robot ........man this topic has me all over the place.

THIS IS AWESOME. I just hope Devastator doesnt get killed in the first one he is definately a 2 movie character.
WWMEGATRON:
Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhh !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Trailbreaker77:
What about the names Devastator & Bonecrusher used in the first movie? Are these the fallen that the title is talking about?
BlitzFire:
so this freaking sweet news.

i love transformers...but i could care less about the names of the bots themselves. I don't want them to use the names from the first movie as they are reportedly dead.

This isn't, afterall, G1. Its a whole different storyline.

The gorilla thing doesn't bother me. Think:

i though this lil guy looked absolutly wicked.

We've had plenty of Constructicons in the past few years that aren't Bonecrusher, so that'll be fine. It is, for all intents and purposes, probably not going to be 1 for 1 when it comes to G1.

Devastator, any way you roll it is really Brawl, so I wouldn't worry about that.

Golden Age:
its cool that they are using the giant type of construction vehicles...I think that is my first positive comment about the movie franchise.
Soundwave84:
This is fucking awesome!!!
Prowl:
All of this is great news. I just want them all to talk, English. Autobots and Decepticons, talking trash to eachother. These characters look amazing, I just want a personality to go with them. That's what makes transformers different from any other robot show, except for Gobots, who had personalities, but they were all bad.
Cloudraker:
Whoa! Long Haul is a badass. I am really anticipating this movie and it can't come soon enough. Who could he fight? Dinobots? Aerialbots?

The first time I see him combine to form Devastator I am going to get all happy in the pants. I am stating this now, I'll more than likely see this movie three times at the theater which is three more times than I saw the first movie. If things keep moving in this direction this could very well be my new favorite movie OF ALL TIME.

Good point there. Even if the indevidual vehicles don't have bot-modes, or we just don't see them, I think the toy versions will. Kinda like Scorponok from the first movie, the toy had a bot-mode, but we never did see it on-screen. The more I think about this, the more I hope it's true.

That and if my memory is correct, Orci basically confirmed that they weren't going with the whole 10:10 rule for the new bots.

I hope the S-R71 blows the shit out of him. Somethings gotta blow the shit out of him, and it sure ain't a hummer. I don't think the autobots stand a chance.

"The previously leaked Long Haul concept art (image to left) by Josh Nizzi is legit"

Don't they mean "previously posted for everyone to see on Deviantart last year?"

Awesome news though! But it's weird that they are adopting old fanart into the mix (even if he is working for Bay now).
Doug:
This is something I will look forward to. The toy version, I hope the seven characters will come in one package, instead of selling them separately.
G1Wheeljack:
Awesome, I wonder what size class the Constructicons will be. Probably either all deluxe, or a combo of deluxe & voyager(I'd love to see them in a giftset) Not too fond of the red & yellow idea, but we haven't seen how he looks yet. I wonder if the 7th Construction will be Hightower from the Classics Devestator & what they plan to do about Bonecrusher.
DecepticonsRule:
Awesome.
