With a wingspan only 9 feet shorter than the average F-15 (roughly 42 ft.). I'd say if you took a chainsaw to one, you could get a couple hundred Frenzies out of it.

Why can't we be both? Besides, I'd call TFW a general fan site before I'd call it a movie site. There is so much coverage across the entire span of Transformers past and present that it strikes me as a little obtuse to call us a Movie site.

Swoop is a pteranodon. The body of a Pteranodon is roughly human size, but VERY thin, with very little body mass like a bat, so to get enough body mass to create a robot, would make a small robot, when compared to any of the other 'bots.

The wings are extremely thin, so they wouldn't make any robot body part, but probably just be wings or a "cape" in robot mode.

Quetzalcoatalus is significantly larger, but again, very frail build, so not alot of places to store the kibble needed for 'bot mode.

TSK, TSK, TSK... you assume that since they hold all the power, they're infallible... they can be wrong, just like anybody else... Not saying that they are, but I can't say that they're 100% right, either...

Yep - me too - seems a good way to get the Devastator name into the film...

...however how do they explain it in the film without a long winded speech - could Soundwave, or Megatron 'give' Devastator this title?

Or could he shout out as he states pummelling the Autobots "I am the NEW Devastator!"

Wouldn't it be easier to have one of the Autobots/Deceptions to explain to Sam, or whoever, that like humans, Cybertronians share names, too? Surely this is a concept even the smallest of viewers would understand. Beast Wars all ready established that Transformers share names or have variations of them; one need not look furhter than Optimus Primal or Megatron.

Who else thinks they're just going to not call Devestator by name in the movie? Brawl was called...Brawl in the toy-line so I think Hasbro could get away with using the name for the toy.

The Autobots will probably put their feet upi and let the humans kill the Decepticons - seeing as the humans destroyed almost all the other Decepticons in the first film, the Autobots can kick back and have a few beers and watch TV.

Devestator will be a piece of cake for the humans - you watch - they'll get a few pistols and fire a couple of rounds and bang - down he goes, all broken.

Then the Autobots will walk in and say "Yep, thats them sorted", with the humans walking round, half dazed and not knowing whats hit em.

yes in G1 he is. The movie is not G1. It they want Dev as a 7 robot combiner then the will.

ppl should stop comparing the movie with G1 and realize that a bot from G1 does not have to look like he did in the 80s. Grimlock does not need to be a metallic T-rex for example.

Funny. The RID Landfill repaint into Universe Devastator (four man Devastator) is one of my (and others) favorite Devastator figures ever made. Maybe people should learn the difference between fact and opinion.

I wouldn't call the toy bios canon. If you're going to go by THAT, than Bonecrusher, Brawl, and Jazz are still alive.

I also love the RID/Universe Devastator. The Energon (Constructicon Maximus) one looked pretty evil, too.

The original Devastator looked awesome on the cartoon, but as a 6 yr old boy, I hated the toy, since the pieces kept falling apart while trying to play with it. The only Gen1 toy I hated more than Devastator was Megatron, since my Megatron toy (purchased in the toy section of a Smitty's Grocery store) had a falty foot that refused to allow Megs to stand up (that, and I was forbidden by my parents to transform Megs into gun mode).

I would LOVE an Ultra class Devastator packaged toy in ANY series, of 5 deluxe sized appendage bots and a voyager sized torso. THAT Would rock.

PS, on my desk at home, I have the little mini KB Toys exclusive Devastator. He is ferocious! He falls off my computer all the time, trying to attack me!

I find this explanation to be actually rather cute. I can picture Starscream trying to explain it: "It's not the same guy, Devastator's just a really popular name these days. Like last year, bots were naming all the new protoforms Britney, or Dakota, or Skullcruncher."

Ya know, I don't like...well, pretty much anything about the whole movie series (unless it does turn out that that treatment is what they're going with, that I did like) but when I read this news and then someone waaaay back at the beginning of this thread suggested the idea of a combiner with all Voyager vehicles...sven if he turns out to look like some giant robot Swamp Thing...

I'd really love to see the real Devastator on screen and crushing small Autobots under his foot.
But considering this is the Bayformers universe, I'd be a little fearful that they'd find a way to screw it up. I mean if they can't even do Megatron and StarScream right then Devastator might be a little out of there league.
But then again I believe this is still just a rumor.
So we'll see.

I'm basing it on the simpler idea of amusement park animatronics coming to life. Then it would be based on a replica, regardless of skin. Like Dispensor and the cell phone bot, the Dinobots would reformat the existing metal and electronics of the animatronic robot to create their robot body.

Besides, aside from the pivoting head, and shape of tail/claws, Skorpinok was a fairly faithful metallic replica of a scorpion, matching many of the joints in a real scorpion.

Quetzalcoatalus doesn't have enough body mass to make a robot much bigger than Shaq. It's all neck and head. The body itself is quite small and thin, unless they do another skinny Frenzy bot.

Doesn't matter anyway, since A) Dinobots won't be in this movie, and 2) Swoop is a minor character in ANY continuity, so he matters very little whether he is a pteranodon, a quetzalcoatalus, dimorphodon, rhamphorhynchus, or any other fluttering extinct beastie...

Back to giant pissed off combiners knocking down buildings and causing chaos in the streets of a major metropolitan area!

Eh, I can still see it as a possibility, though probably not with the amusement park backstory (if it's a Quetz.). Most people are more familiar with pteranodons anyway.

Looking at the size of Longhaul against the siloette of the human near his foot, Devastator is going to be HUGE!

Do you think - however sacraligious it may be to us fans - that Bay might 'combine' some of the Autobots to take him on?

Could we see an Optimus body, with 'Twins' legs, and Ironhide and Bumblebee arms?

The talk is the new 'silver' car (very cool) is Wheeljack - if this is true, and the scientist wiz that he is, could he pull this 'Combiner' out of his hat to fight back against the big greeny - with a hint of yellow and red :-)

Also - I hope Devastator is an Autobot kill - to bring do something this huge by humans.... it won't seem right - we need Prime or maybe the sacrifice of one of the other Autobots to bring Devastator down.

Historically, Prime would transform into truck mode and ram the gestalt in the face at speed.

I'm not saying it's a bad thing-- particularly in Bonecrusher's case-- but it's hardly something to viably expect the movie to accept.

I guess it would depend on how the script explains it away (assuming they are returning). At this point, it's up in the air.

They gotta be careful though, to makes sure it doesn't look like a cheap Voltron or Power Ranger knockoff.

The merging should look "painful" and dramatic. I think "Devastator" should be at least 200ft tall, and push a skyscraper building down on autobots.

I also would love a gestalt toy that also locks into place, so the arms and legs don't fall off when kids play with it!

Since there was a hint upgrades will play a part in the movie, i would assume optimus gets his trailer and transforms into optimus prime super mode during a battle with devastator. he will do something that destabilizes devastator so that he cant retain his combined form and then the autobots and humans take out each of the 7 pieces (divide and conquer) preventing them from being able to recombine. Thats how i see the autobots winning this fight.

Nope, nobody has forgotten. Personally, I think that it doesn't really matter. How many people beyond us fans is going to remember one little subscript (or whatever that's called) from the first movie about a bot that died? That and I wouldn't doubt more than one bot sharing the same name. It's not like there are that many, if any, completely unique names out there anyways.

Personally, I really don't care what they call him, or the bots that make up him. Just saying that I wouldn't be surprised if they went with the name Devastator. In the end I could always call them whatever I want to when I get the toys of them.

And honestly, what's in a name? I don't see why we, of all people, should bother getting riled up over the use (or reuse) of Devastator. Hasbro's been doing this since Beast Wars, you'd think it wouldn't even register anymore.

I dunno, maybe it's that "First Combiner" love. You know, the cologne in that gawky bottle next to the rose-colored shot glasses (you see G1 your way, I'll see it my way).

Prime merging with his trailer has been a staple in TF lore since Powermaster O.P., so I wouldn't be surprised. I hope they don't pull the combiner crap from Energon, since Prime would look VERY silly with "Bumblebee pants"

My idea, tho, is something like RID. I want Ultra Magnus (as a military vehicle similar to his TFA form) to be introduced and Prime and Magnus combine to create "Optimus Magnus" looking like Optimus Prime wearing Marvel's Warmachine armor.
