 | | | Bernie Mac Dead at Age 50 | | Posted on 08-09-2008 at 08:31 AM by Tony_Bacala | Actor Comedian Bernie Mac passed away early Saturday morning in Chicago at the age of 50. His death is most likely attributed to pneumonia he was suffering from, he was recently hospitalized for the illness.
Bernie Mac has a long record of achievements, however, he is known to us at TFW2005.com for his recent role in the live action Transformers Movie from 2007, playing the role of Bobby Boliva, the used car salesman who sold Sam and his father Bumblebee during a key scene in the film.
We at TFW2005.com and on behalf of the Transformers fandom would like to give his friends family and fans our best wishes. RIP Bernie Mac. A driver don't pick the car, car pick the driver. If I had a rock I'd bust your head b***h | | Credit: Karl Hartman of the 2005 Boards! | Views: 1,704 |

What a shocker, i was not expecting this when i signed on to TFW this morning. RIP Uncle Bobby B!
I'm a big fan of his work, and I loved his role in TF.
Another one of my favorite bits was his negotiating in Bad Santa.
I want half.
"how about 10%?"
Half.
"mmm.. 25%?"
HALF!
"(rolls eyes) ok, a third."
(blows a smoke ring) Hoff...
and so on and so on. It was actually a technique i used when getting my G1 Swoop - they were selling it for $50, and i told them $40. Everytime they came back with 47, 45, 42, i just kept saying $40. (i had just seen it like a month prior to that). It worked there too, lol.
I think one of the greatest ways to honor a comedian's passing is to bring up favorite bits of his that made you laugh. Does anyone else have any favorite bits they'd like to bring up? NemesisBruticus:
Somebody just figure out if he's dead? I hope its a rumor. Edit.: I guess its true. Condolences to his family. Is someone targeting actors? Shia, Morgan Freeman, now Bernie. But the other two got lucky.

Actually, the Chicago Sun Times is a major newspaper in Chicago. It is not what I assume you are refering to as a supermarket "tabloid".
Gears:
They said he was getting better on the radio yesterday. This sucks. RIP Bernie Mac.

Deadpool1283:
Wow, that was fairly shocking to hear. I didn't even know he was sick. I think it is fairly safe to say that seeing "Bernie Mac Dead" was the last thing I expected to see coming to TFW this morning. I thought he was damn funny in Transformers and Ocean's 11. He'll be missed, that's for sure.
I'll also echo the RIP Uncle Bobby B. that others have said.
transmetal2dinobot:

Predaking: Bernie Mac dies at age 50 - Celebrities - MSNBC.com Quote:
CHICAGO - Bernie Mac, the Emmy- and Golden Globe-nominated actor and comedian who worked his way to Hollywood success from an impoverished upbringing on Chicago’s South Side, died Saturday at age 50.
“Actor/comedian Bernie Mac passed away this morning from complications due to pneumonia in a Chicago area hospital,” his publicist, Danica Smith, said in a statement from Los Angeles.
She said no other details were available and asked that his family’s privacy be respected.
The comedian suffered from sarcoidosis, an inflammatory lung disease that produces tiny lumps of cells in the body’s organs, but had said the condition went into remission in 2005. He recently was hospitalized and treated for pneumonia, which his publicist said was not related to the disease.
Recently, Mac’s brand of comedy caught him flack when he was heckled during a surprise appearance at a July fundraiser for Democratic presidential candidate and fellow Chicagoan Barack Obama.
Toward the end of a 10-minute standup routine, Mac joked about menopause, sexual infidelity and promiscuity, and used occasional crude language. The performance earned him a rebuke from Obama’s campaign.
Always a performer
But despite controversy or difficulties, in his words, Mac was always a performer.
“Wherever I am, I have to play,” he said in 2002. “I have to put on a good show.”
Mac started his comedy career at age 8, with a standup performance at a church dinner. In 1977, at age 20, he took that act to comedy clubs in Chicago.
His film career started with a small role as a club doorman in the Damon Wayans movie “Mo’ Money” in 1992. Mac went on to star in the “Ocean’s Eleven” franchise with Brad Pitt and George Clooney and his turn with Ashton Kutcher in 2005’s “Guess Who?” — a remake of the Spencer Tracy and Katharine Hepburn 1967 classic “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner?” — topped the box office.
Mac also had starring roles in “Bad Santa,” “Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle” and “Transformers.”
The comedian drew critical and popular acclaim with his Fox television series “The Bernie Mac Show,” which aired more than 100 episodes from 2001 to 2006.
The series about a man’s adventures raising his sister’s three children won a Peabody Award in 2002. At the time, judges wrote they chose the sitcom for transcending “race and class while lifting viewers with laughter, compassion — and cool.”
The show garnered Golden Globe and Emmy nominations for Mac. He also was nominated for a Grammy award for best comedy album in 2001 along with his “The Original Kings of Comedy” co-stars, Steve Harvey, D.L. Hughley and Cedric The Entertainer.
Planned to retire soon
In 2007, Mac told David Letterman on CBS’s “Late Show” that he planned to retire soon.
“I’m going to still do my producing, my films, but I want to enjoy my life a little bit,” Mac told Letterman. “I missed a lot of things, you know. I was a street performer for two years. I went into clubs in 1977.”
Mac was born Bernard Jeffrey McCullough on Oct. 5, 1957, in Chicago. He grew up on the city’s South Side, living with his mother and grandparents. His grandfather was the deacon of a Baptist church.
In his 2004 memoir, “Maybe You Never Cry Again,” Mac wrote about having a poor childhood — eating bologna for dinner — and a strict, no-nonsense upbringing.
Mac’s mother died of cancer when he was 16. In his book, Mac said she was a support for him and told him he would surprise everyone when he grew up.
“Woman believed in me,” he wrote. “She believed in me long before I believed.”

dang. he's so young. it's a shame seeing famous people die to illness. Other celebritys die due to neglect and abuse, and ironically, those are the ones who make bigger headlines and hang out in the spotlight.
Akumaxv:
Wow. Terrible news. He was a hysterical comedian. I've liked him since way before Transformers. Caught him several times on Def Comedy Jam, back in the day when Martin was hosting. The OG days. The Bernie Mac show is funny too and like him in the Ocean movies as well.
He will be missed. RIP B Mac.

He had been suffering with this for quite some time (just came out in the news about a year, maybe two, ago.) An immune system deficiency disorder; it can cause shortness of breath among other symptoms. My guess is that that happened, coupled with the Pneumonia, and it was just too much for his weakened body to handle.
What a horrible way to go.
Rest in peace sir, may you suffer no more.
NeoGutsman:
Rest in peace, Bernie. I loved "The Bernie Mac Show" - lots of humor, heart and love wrapped in his trademark comedy and some really tough situations. You'll not be forgotten!
Also, OP, the character's name in the Transformer movie was "Bobby Bolivia" - "like the country, but without the runs".
Boulder:
Just saw it on television as I was channel surfing. Sorry to see that we've lost another talented individual too early. Condolences to his friends, family, and colleagues.

This is rather... surprising. Almost kinda impossible to think it actually happened. I heard he was sick as well, but I thought he'd get over it (until I read through this topic and its link(s)). This sad news indeed. God Rest his soul.
