TFW2005 has received confirmation from the TFW TF2 Insider that Jetfire will be an Autobot in the upcoming sequel Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen. It could be that the Decepticon symbols previously reported to be on the SR-71 Blackbird were part of Michael Bay’s misinformation campaign? Or is it a plot twist?

For added fun, remember that they had nuclear tipped rockets for interception purposes too, back when they thought the big threat was going to be a wave of bomber formations. The good old days.

Anyone have an explanation for this?

Thanks Shin. Wikipedia is always the first thing Google picks up, so it was a convenient place to quote from.
Webz, given your interest in the SR-71, I'd highly suggest picking up Skunk Works by Ben Rich. The early sections focus on the SR-71 and the rest tells the story of Have Blue and the F-117.

What about Bumblebee's assault door, and sonic window eradicator?

I just hope he's not incredibly ugly. I'd rather them have a short awesome robot than a big ugly contraption. However, i might make an exception if he owns every decepticon in the movie… but that'd be impossible.

Yay, maybe now just at least for change at least the Autobots gets at least one guy not only half the size of the Decepticons…
Shin Densetsu
Actually no, wikipedia is bullshit, but the A-12 was developed as an interceptor but then cancelled. Back then it was built to intercept Soviet bombers fast, and dispatch them quickly. This was around the 50's where a lot of planes were made for high speed interception, like the F-101 voodoo, F-102/106, et al. Missle capability was always limited, even now 8 missles on a fighter can be a full load. The SR-71 is from the same family of aircraft and was made for extremely fast high altitude recon.

Yeah, wikipedia is the end-all of legit info. (mops the dripping sarcasm)…
The SR-71 was built for only one thing… moving forward FAST. It had no evasive maneuvers and such a high price tag, that it would never be feasible to actually MAKE a fighter version (which is the one thing I actually believe from the wikipedia article). Plus, a 3 missile payload doesn't do much.
So no, Bay keeps his hook-up with the military by showing personnel and equipment in realistic and flattering way.
Also…. Anyone know if the Jetfire pic that is floating around the web is legit?
Go to your favorite web image search engine, type "jetfire" and a dude's flickr account has TONS of pics of TF2 sets, plus a render of Jetfire that looks like the leaks from the last film…

Yes, *pumps fist* I was hoping that old Jet would be an Autobot and not converted from a Decepticon. I'm eager to see how they will play out his story in the new movie.

From the beginning when I heard that Jetfire was going to be in it, I hoped for Jetfire to switch sides sometime in the sequel. Not only would it be a cool and unexpected plot twist, if done right, but it also adds a nice bit to the story.

…Alls i gotta says is…I wants a leader class Jetfire Blackbird toy!
Locke
I understand that the aircraft that will appear in the movie is clearly in the SR-71, but it is interesting that a modified version of the SR-71 was considered as an interceptor.

I could actually care less about the movie apects of Jetfire, just make sure he's cool, and that we get a really good toy outta him!
knook
That's a shame. I wanted Jetfire as a 'con but switches later on
DragonCrash
If there's any connection at all between Starscream and Jetfire, it'll be one thing less for the G1 fans to complain about.
Blackout
Autobots are going to need someone in the sky (Jetfire) to be able to somewhat take on Devastator.
