Entertainment News Website Canoe has posted an interview with director Michael Bay regarding his upcoming movie Transformers 4. There isn’t much detail, however the director revealed that Transformers 4 will be shorter than the previous Transformers movies with a run time of 2 hours and 7 minutes.
The original article is in french but 2005 Boards Member TylerMirage translated the quote with Google Translate:
“Two hours 7 minutes, which I think is a good formula, which gives enough room to maneuver.” Shooting begins in five weeks in Hong Kong and will continue to other places in China, Detroit and Chicago. What do you think of this decision? Good Or Bad? Share your thought with fellow members on the thread associated with this news post.

It won't really matter since the end result will be the same as the other 3, just shorter.

Protip: You are contributing to the trashing, and do so on a consistent basis. If you can't stand the fact that people are commenting on a discussion forum, maybe you shouldn't venture past the front page.
I think that shorter films may force Bay and Co. to up their game in terms of editing and narrative, and that could definitely result in a stronger, if not less meandering film. Frankly, I think clocking in at over 2 hours isn't enough of a difference, but maybe that'll be enough.

I watched Avengers for the first time today and even though it was a very good movie it did still feel kinda overlong at around two hours and twenty minutes. So when I think even a good movie should perhaps run a little shorter it's no surprise I'd like a shorter runtime on BayFormers too. The difference is that Avengers didn't really have a lot that could've been cut much without a loss of worthwhile story or character elements.
I dunno if I'd say it has anything to do with short attention spans, it's just that after a couple of hours I get fidgety. I'd probably get that way after sitting through two hours of most anything.

Mostly animated films, comedies, some horror etc… But most MAJOR effects movies I've seen always run @ the 2 hour mark. Going beyond 2 hours however has become more commonplace I'll admit. I enjoy every minute of it, but I guess it must be something with the new generation, short attention spans I dunno….

Expected as much. With the film being pretty much a rehash of the first (introducing us to the human cast and an almost entirely new set of autobots)
I wouldn't be surprised if the pacing is similar to the first film. For example;
History about Cybertron
Flashback to DOTM
Introduction to human lead female at 'college'
Introduce father figure
Meet the potential love interest
Potential love interest is caught up in attack at race car track
Etc…

I agree; I think that was the intended meaning. Unfortunately, what Paarthurnax said was "I don't think replies from members should be allowed in the movie forum anymore." Literally, all forum members, irrespective of their position on the movies, should not be allowed to post in the movie forum. As the TFW2005 forums do not allow for anonymous commenting, this would essentially constitute a permanent shut down of the movie forum.
Alas, I have come to expect this sort of lack of logical coherence on the part of those that defend Michael Bay's efforts uncritically.

Being a member of a Transformers site doesn't mean you have to love everything to do with it regardless. I'll be sure to keep an eye out for when you say anything negative about anything to do with Transformers. Or does it only apply to other people saying bad things about Michael Bay and BayFormers?
And they say the 'hatorz' are the intolerant ones. So much negativity and hate I see in you.
Even some people that enjoy BayFormers admit the movies will benefit from being a bit shorter. Are you going to rant against them too?
Obviously it's only for Bay fanzies to sit and agree with each other without being exposed to anything negative that might offend their delicate sensibilities.

I'm fully on board with this trajectory and look forward to zero-length Bayformers movies.

Then who would post in the forum?

Because run time can be a factor in if people perceive a film to be good or not. Take Peter Jackson's King Kong. As a shorter film it might have been a good movie, but critics seemed to agree that a big fault of the film was that it was too long and tried to put in too much that the movie really didn't need.
Even your favorite films could be ruined if they were made too long. I love Blazing Saddles but if it was stretched out into a 3 hour film it wouldn't be as fun or as funny. Like books some stories work as big sweeping epics while others work better as short stories.

I'm perfectly okay with this as long as it means less human screen time. If it means less robot time…..

I wonder if anybody trashes Transformers as much as the Transformers fans!?!? I mean, you come to a site where people are supposed to love Transformers but all you see is negativity & hate.
I don't think replies from members should be allowed in the movie forum anymore. I like reading the news but the replies just piss me off. Nothin good to say but they still refuse to STFU.

Well that was completely unnecessary.
Cyber Star
I would love to know how they got to that number. Seems they have a lot planned already.

Don't even think it matters, as long as it is a good film. Why the running time is even worth a discussion is beyond me.
Megatron1
I want Megatron to come back as Galvatron. As long as that happens, I'll be happy.

I'm sure what we'll be loosing out of this short run time will be either the plot or a decent conclusion to the final battle.

Cool.
