Get your grains of salt ready to take! Comicbookmovie.com has posted an excerpt from an interview with Cinema Blend and producer Lorenzo Di Bonaventura (Transformers and G.I.Joe films). Given the success of Marvel’s Avengers and a possible Justice League film from Warner Bros, the question was asked if the producer would be open to doing a crossover film. While he seems hesitant and seemingly wants to focus on each properties very rich histories, he does say he’d be open to it if the right story came along. Read below what he had to say on the subject:
“I guess it’s possible. I don’t know. I think I probably at this moment, I resist it. I don’t know necessarily why, but I just think there’s so much that’s so rich in the mythologies that I don’t think they need to draw from the other. I think, I didn’t rule it out for me and I think those things have somehow for me, sort of in the past, they made me feel like a little bit cynical exercises in just drawing money out of something. It’s not to say you couldn’t do it well, but both these properties have such rich mythologies with so many characters, that you could go a lot of movies before you start running out of ideas of what to do. But it’s not to say, if we found the right… I’d hate to set out to do that, but if I heard a story where we went, “Oh my God…,” I could see a story right now about machination, machination of war and that could lead you sort of intrinsically to a Transformer. I think in general, Marvel is doing it within their own universe, right? And so it doesn’t feel gimmicky in that way. I think that’s what I would really try to resist.”

I'd actually rather have a live-action Joe/Bayformers crossover than TF4, to be honest.

Several top billing characters from stand alone films merged into 1?
Sounds like a crossover to me.
Look at Who Framed Roger Rabbit.
And since when was "crossover" defined as "2 worlds colliding?" I've seen episodes of CSI and LAW and Order do crossovers from one show into another.
Hell, I remember back in the day when characters from St. Elsewhere stopped by CHEERS… and I think even Magnum PI and Simon and Simon have met.
It's not unheard of.

Lorenzo diBonaventura: 'I guess technically it could work, but there are still so many stories to tell in both franchises without the need for crossovers'
News post 'Lorenzo diBonaventura is open to Transformers/GI Joe crossover!!1'
….ok?

Movieverse Transformers meet the Movieverse Joe Team?
How about no.
and even more NO.

That's exactly what it is. I agree.

A Crossover into what. By what definition? Its not like "Two worlds Collide" in that Sense. As far as I can tell its a series of films leading up to Avengers as a United story.

How was the Avengers movie not a crossover?

The DC universe has no hope without a good Green Lantern Movie. Just my opinion.
Does Avengers Really count as a Crossover movie. Its all in the same Marvel universe anyway. People were expecting the cameos and homages when they were watching the other films. Like Captain Americas Shield in both Iron man movies.
But one of the factors that helped Avengers was the build up. Each marvel movie had pieces (usually teased after the credits rolled) to connect to the next one. Avengers was in a way the payoff of all those connections.
I don't think a reboot is neccesary, but they could try putting in homages to the Transformers in the third Gijoe film and go from there.

crossovers in comics/toys etc… is ok, but for a major film, no way. THAT is the big deal. I think anything up to and including an animated astright to DVD film would be cool. but please No major film crossover.

If it got us a reboot of the both the live action Transformers and GI Joe movies I'd be all for it since both film franchises just haven't been as cool as the various cartoons and comic books over the years.
But instead of rebooting to make things fit I think they would end up in that DC situation where they want something like The Avengers without laying the ground work of several films to set up the big crossover movie. It seems like every month there is some new rumor about how they are going to reboot Batman to fit a Justice League movie or they are going to continue with a more real world Batman because Batman is the only big hit series so far with the DC movies.

Oh yeah, guys, this means he's doing it.
It wouldn't work. We already have the backstory of each and there's no mention of either. Even G.I. Joe is in the near future and TF is in the present, yet there's no mention of the TF invasion or anything in G.I. Joe! Come on people. Logic.
If they do it it would have to be in a complete reboot of each and I don't want that for at least a decade.

Dag d***, son! Let's wait until they make a good movie first!!!

Man, that is the exact same thing my friends and I were saying they should have don that in the first place! Hell Josh Dumel could have been either Duke or Flint and Tyrese as Stalker, and the company, from Dark of the Moon, that was unknowingly working for the Decepticons could have been – Extensive Enterprises who was notoriously in bed with COBRA. They would have save themselves so much trouble if they'd went that route

It seems like a project that would work better as a direct to video animated release instead of going with a huge live action film. You would have the freedom of not having to worry about how the movie would fit into the mythologies of the GI Joe and Transformers live action movies.
I'm also not sure how they would work it over egos because who would direct and would anyone get upset if their franchise wasn't in their hands? Plus Cobra seems to get more done than the Decepticons so would the evil robots have to take a back seat to Cobra?

Good for Retaliation. Guess that makes the need for a movie crossover less at this time if both brands are doing good…at least movie wise. Joe has been in the dumper toywise for years.
While yes, technically there have been at least 2 times a GIJoe element has crossed into Transformers, there hasn't been a full blown Transformers/GIJoe crossover episode where it is stated as such. Only Human was close though.

G. I. Joe: Retaliation Opening/Easter Weekend Box Office Results – Third G. I. Joe Movie Greenlit – GI Joe News
While opening weekend isn't necessarily an indicator of how well it will do months from now, as a Joe fan who saw the movie…it's **GREAT**. Retaliation should have been Rise of Cobra, period. With Retaliation I can finally remove the stain of Rise of Cobra from my brain forever.
I'm **DOWN** for a crossover. It's already been done in the Transformers cartoon, and I'm more surprised that it hasn't been done by now.

I don't see it happening until BOTH Transformers and GI Joe movies are not doing well at the box office. While GIJoe #1 didn't do well (not sure about Retailaition yet), Transformers is bringing in the $$$. Why risk their films just to help Joe?

It might work

For me the TF movies are crossovers of TF and US army. I can't see much difference.

The opportunity for this was already missed when they didn't make Lennox and his team G.I. Joe in RotF. With more characterization and involvement in the story, N.E.S.T. could have easily been the Joes, and spun off into their own franchise afterward, coming back for crossovers and cameos later like the Marvel films.
