Takara-Tomy Announces their next Masterpiece - Movie Starscream!

I hope that toy picture isn't the final product.

As tiny as the picture is, it seems to have LESS detailing in terms of tattoos than the Hasbro version.

How do you know that it's going to be a leader class repackaged?

it looks just like the leader class and if you look at the box art that IS the leaderclass, the text makes it seem like a new mold, but images say otherwise, but i would gladly welcome a new mold, cause that would be cool

Pointless direction in which to take the Masterpiece line. Utterly pointless.

I'll consider it if it has a great paintjob..although I'd like it if they'd remove the tattoos - from the figure it looks like he hasn't got them, but on the box he has them.

Double price seems a bit much though, so unless it's really stellar, I'll probably pick up the regular one.

Does it really matter what's it called though? What matters is that it's pretty much a Premium repaint.

I saw your question. It would suck if it is a repaint with MP packaging. I see it as lazy marketing if it is a repaint.

Well, considering ROTF Leader Optimus Prime is largely considered to practically be a Masterpiece design sold at the mass market mainline price point, and considering Leader Starscream has a very, very nice robot mode*, I don't think it's too far fetched to potentially consider them to be MPs.

Just REALLY unexpected, though.

*Like MP Convoy, Leader Starscream was designed to be robot-centric, so his vehicle mode suffers in comparison.

It's been argued by some that Leader Prime and Starscream are pushing an MP level of engineering.... the difference however is that they're intended to be more widely available toys, and the lower price point may perhaps be explained by greater economies of scale.

My first instinct is that this smacks of cynicism on the part of Takara. I'm extremely sceptical about any new parts being included, and i have doubts about how much of an improvement the paintwork will be.

On the bright side it doesn't look like this mentions 2010 so this isn't one of the 2 new or re-release MPs from that campaign.

I'm thinking about preordering one myself. But it is the price that is making me to think.

Not impressed at the least I'll think I will pass on this one. Bring on either Rodimus or my favorite Cyclonus (wishing but not expecting it)

Remember how TakaraTomy charged extra for Buster Optimus Prime over the regular version? I figure this is the same deal, especially if they're too full up with product lines to do the HFTD/Hasbro TF 2010 line.

And there's still the gold paint issue. If it happens the figures break after a few months, it's FAR from being a masterpiece figure in terms of quality.

Easy pass for me. Hate the movie character asthetic so this 'masterpiece' will not be finding a home in my collection.

Well that was unexpected, this has nothing to do with the 2010 campaign though so I'm not fussed.

Leader Starscream is the first leader of the HftD line, they'll be plenty of stock, no one needs to even consider buying this one.

Am I the only person who really cant stand the movie starscream. Legends, deluxe, leader, who cares? I thought the point of the masterpiece line was to take the LOOK and style of the original franchise and recreate them using updated technology. This seems like money grubbing to me and a degradation of the masterpiece line.

Why is everyone so bothered by this? it's essentially the japanese release for leader starscream. We get HFTD and they've put it under masterpiece. so what? If they were releasing this in addition to HFTD it'd be silly.

The japanese toylines are NOT a supplement to the US ones. People should stop acting like their owed something.

we say masterpiece because starscream is more or less a masterpiece in transformation and looks but takara have took it the wrong way

And now people who are colecting the Masterpiece line and are trying to get them all have to buy a figure that was never intended FOR the line. it's a dangerous development for such collectors.

I think its a really nice concept to make masterpiece toys of characters outside the G1 universe once in a while BUT this definitely isn't the way to do it.

This is just a waste of a slot in the materpiece line. I have always hated the look of the movie version of starscream myself and now to waste a slot in the masterpiece line for it? I dont own the leader class version is there any metal on it? If so then how is the masterpiece really going to be different besides paint. At least if the MP version was diecast metal I could somewhat see the draw for people to pick this up. I REALLY hope this doesnt take up one of the last 2 slots of the Takara campaign they have going on if so then I will be pissed.... Im hoping for a MP Hot Rod, Soundwave or maybe even a Galvatron. This is an utter waste to me and EASY pass for the price! If they wanted to go a new direction then make MP version of the War For Cybertron figures!!!! NOW THAT WOULD BE A WIN!!!!

It isn't going to interfere with anyone's numbering.

There have been rumours, at least so I've heard, of the first movie's protoform Starscream suffering from the GPS. Last I saw mine, it was okay, but like I said, I've heard rumours of it happening.

It would be most infuriating though to shell out the money for a Leader-class figure only to have it fall apart in your hands within a year, so I can see how there would be worry over the new HtfD figures with the gold plastic eventually succumbing to the GPS.

Anyway, moot point for me as I'm not collecting new Movie-verse toys.

Meh, go ahead and release it. I'll just be back here waiting for Shockwave, Rodimus, and maybe an MP Magnus trailer/armor that looks good.

In my opinion the MP line has always been reserved for the greatest characters/figures in the history of Transformers. How does ROTF Starscream qualify as that? HE DOESNT. To me you could release the ENTIRE G1 series of figures/characters and I would grab them ALL. Could you imagine all the Dinobots as MP's? So many others you could do Jazz, Wheeljack JETFIRE. This is a WASTE!
