Toys R Us Canada also revealed a second Platinum Edition Chinese New Year Transformer. The second Year of the Horse Transformer is a Year of the Horse Optimus Prime. The page on Toys R Us Canada was here, but has since started redirecting to the site's index. However, 2005 Boards member mapatel got a copy of the product description, which reads as follows:

The leader of the Autobots is back and more unstoppable than ever! Everyone will know that this mighty Year of the Horse Optimus Prime figure is the ultimate Autobot, because the Matrix of Leadership fits in his chest. He'll shred his Decepticon enemies with his Energon axe in robot mode, and flatten them in truck mode! Convert his trailer to a battle station with a maintenance dock, where you can store his ion cannon and Energon axe. Your Transformers adventures will be off the hook with this Optimus Prime figure!

What this suggests about this Optimus Prime is that:
  • He has a Matrix that fits in his chest.
  • He has the Energon Axe and an Ion Cannon
  • He comes with a trailer which turns into a battle station and maintenance dock, and the trailer can also store the weapons.

With these facts in mind, there are very few existing Optimus Prime toys that fit this bill - leaving by process of elimination the most likely potential candidate for this release as a special Chinese New Year edition Masterpiece Optimus Prime 2.0.

As before no pictures are available, so this is speculation on our part, however once more news becomes available we shall share it with you here.

... Cybertron Optimus, maybe?

... a Mach Kick repaint in Optimus Prime colors?
Snake_eyes1975
Armada rocks. im interested
Hot Shot.
Not gonna lie: I came into this thread expecting an equine Optimus Prime in the same vein as the Evangelion horse:

Evangelion horse.
FoC Grimlock
mp10?
netkid
Sounds like MP 10 with a stylish Horse graphic painted on the trailer. I take it that now China's an consumer powerhouse, we'll be seeing something like this every year.
seeker311
I have heard of mp 10 being reissued
Anguirus
^That's what it sounds like to me.
Atomatron
hoping for an MP-10 re-release, with some random patterened (with a horse) trailer.
Quantum
The description reads like it's going to be MP 10. Interested to see what the trailer looks like.
Ra88
If it's MP-10 I might be in. The horse will be a shame but hell, it'll be the only chance to get this for a decent price.
Scrapper6
Nope, sorry, you are factually wrong.

Fact #1 Armada Optimus Prime does not include a trailer that can hold an ion gun or his energy axe, because Armada Optimus Prime did not include an energy axe or an ion gun.

Fact #2 Aramda Optimus Prime does not include a removeable Matrix of Leadership, it was just a molded in chest detail.

Fact #3 Armada Optimus Prime's trailer does not convert into a battle station with a maintenance dock, it just converted into a big ass battle station that Mini-Cons could use.

Fact #4 There is no mentioning of Armada Optimus Prime's combination capabilities.

Therefore I presume that this is, in fact, a re-release of the MP-10 mold. Going off the description it fits, as that one has a trailer while the other MP mold did not. At least not a converting trailer, it was cardboard.

Also... Come on Hasbro! It's the Year of the Horse and you aren't even trying to get Mach Kick from Beast Wars Neo made available in Platinum form? That's just, completely a no brainer.
worldsgreatest
Very interesting.
FoC Grimlock
Let's hope for the best. The Chinese New Year YOTS packaging is really sharp looking. I'd love to have one on display.

I was thinking Mach Kick with an Optimus Prime head slapped on.

Tbh I was actually going with the pattern hasbro seems to be following with unicron trilogy rereleases. Never had armada optimus so have no idea what it comes with.

Does anything in the "additional info" box match mp10? I don't have it, so if be interested to find out. Dimensions look about right for it.
FoC Grimlock
I'm getting the MP10 feeling from this but I'm always full of optimism and naive childishness.
dmc2008
LOL, the listings have already been pulled, and the old MP SW & AS pages are back up... It's become a shit show already, and we're not even sure what's being released!

EDIT: NVRMND. I'm foolish, and did not notice that was the Canadian version of TRU.com. Nothing has changed, they're all still up. Very intriguing!

The packaging is very nice, BUT I really don't like the Snake decor they stamped on the toys in place of normal Autobot symbols.

"Batteries:
2 AA batteries are required (not included)"

which prime took AA batteries?
FoC Grimlock
Batteries! awwww man
jimmynguyen41
Dimensions are ~17x~12x~8
And requires AA batteries.

Hmm sounds like energon prime or cyberton prime. Be nice it was rotf leader lol
gawddammit
At first I thought it was Cybertron Prime. May bite if it is, indeed, MP10.
FoC Grimlock
The batteries bit really kicks this thing in the stomach.
General Tekno
It's worth bringing up that the Year of the Horse colors are brown, yellow, and purple. While Year of the Snake was red, yellow, and black (which they did keep to pretty well)
BigMetalUnit
it is Mp 10
BigMetalUnit
"energon axe, matrix in his chest ....trailer converts to battlestation" just by the description alone ...it can not be anything but mp10 or mp01 with trailer ....anc i highly doubt its mp01
BenjaminXavier
And as a side note: all the previous "platinum" releases have been shared with Amazon/BBTS in the states, right? That means this should be fairly easy to get, eh?

Armada. When you transformed prime into supermode. His trailer would change into the legs automaticly.I would love an updated Armada Prime.
amd098
for that price id guess mp10 reissue
ex dtw2003
Definitely sounds like MP-10, except with a jacked price.

Edit: Batteries???
Matty
Shit, I think it'd be cool to see another MP-10!
Anguirus
^ Could it be an MP-10 cab with a new electronic trailer?

The axe really seems to narrow it down
LeoPrime
Product Weight:0.8 lbs
Product Dimensions: (in inches)17.9 x 11.5 x 7.5

MP-10 weighs 5+ pounds, so unless that's an error...
ex dtw2003
Ths-02?
ahro23
Yeah I was gonna say that it sounded like an MP-10 repaint but where the hell would the batteries go? Unless they're just reusing a listing for a different toy...
Arkitect76
guys, this would be a first to see a masterpiece mold on a platinum series line....IF it is an MP10
SPLIT LIP
I'm honestly more excited that MP Soundwave is up for preorder.

But this has me quite curious.
GaussGunner
Deluxe for 139$, XD, maybe MP repaint.

He also needed three(?) alkaline batteries to trigger the LED or whatever it was that sent the signal to the trailer, which required the batteries.

Hmmm, either this is Armada Prime, with a wrong description for MP-10 or we're looking at a re-re-release of the old MP-01 or something... But that didn't have batteries either. Color me confused.
Hot Shot.

Not Armada, actually. I think the trailer took four batteries, not two.

EDIT: Yep. http://tfwiki.net/~fortmax/instructi...eSuperbase.jpg

If and hit is a HUGE IF, Toys r us has their description correct this sounds like that 80 dollar pink G1 we got a few years back with the autobot logo box that talked.

If they just threw a MP10 in a plat box with some kind of battery accessory I'd be surprised at 140. We can only hope.

But lets run down the rest of the possible primes

Above mentioned G1 reissue,
Powermaster/god ginrai- No Axe no batteries no matrix in chest
Star Convoy reissue- Unlikely no axe
G2 Prime- Has a battery box possible with the recent g2 bruticus love but unlikely due to niche market
Machine wars prime- No matrix no axe
RID- No axe no matrix no
Armada- No axe no matrix chest and I think I remember it needing 4 AA
Energon-Already got plat
Cybertron- No axe no batteries
Classics- No trailer no matrix no axe no batteries
Animated- No trailers for any. no matrix chests on any
Prime- No trailers no matrix chests
Hybrid Prime- Way Small no batteries

Movie Primes- Possibly one of these but I only remember a voyager having a matrix but I don't remember it having a trailer.

All the rest of the primes I can think about are never going to hit the 140 after platinum treatment mark so I left them out.
FoC Grimlock
That product weight is definitely wrong for a Prime plus Trailer.

Someone mentioned that the Prime which uses Double A batteries is Armada Prime. God, I hope it is not that one. It's ugly as shit. But Armada is in that price range, too.

I'm going to remain hopeful that this might be an MP10 reissue. It'd be sweet to get a truly nice box.
FoC Grimlock
Also, that product weight is REALLY light for any Prime plus trailer. Especially if it takes batteries on top of that. I think the product info is way off.
Lazerwave
Year of the Horse?

Wonder what that could be.
WhiteMocha
I would love if it's MP-10... still regret not picking up the first US run of that mold. And hey, I'm even Year of the Horse myself (although... way back in 1978).

From the description it sure seems to suggest MP-10. Since someone took to time to write up the blurb I'd trust that over the "AA batteries" thing, which could just be an automated thing or a mistake. Or maybe that's just wishful thinking on my part.

Lol a transformer easy to get ....only if its name is mudflap
Lt. Faceless
I forgot about all the batteries Armada does take.Cybertron prime doesn't take any batteries. They wouldn't re-release energon prime again, would they? Maybe a US release?
