Thanks to site sponsor BigBadToyStore, we have new images of the recently announced rerelease MP-05 Masterpiece Megatron. This 30th Anniversary release of Megatron will have a new metallic gold chrome finish, separating itself from prior releases and reissues of the mold which showcased Megatron’s traditional silver color scheme. BBTS’ preorder page shows off the box images of this figure and it’s new finish.
Check it out after the jump and let us know what you think!

The gold looks tacky

As someone who regretted not getting MP-05 Megatron, I was excited to hear about his reissue… but the gold tone? No way.
If I'm going to invest into an MP, it better look like my most endearing memory of Megatron. I can't sit here and accept it as a 'Electrum Plated' version from 1 episode of the G1 cartoon.
I would love to know the thought process behind this color choice. Good for the people that want a duplicate MP in a different color tone. I'll pass.

I am with you. I have both versions pre-ordered and am looking forward to having more mini-Reflectors. I like the Takara mini-Reflector too though. It is metal, and heavy, and has a great look to it. I totally get why people would want to hold out for the upcoming third party offerings and I don't want to come across like I am trying to convince people to buy this thing. It was more that I was pleasantly surprised with it and thought there might be someone else out there like me that was having a hard time finding this tiny accessory for a decent price.

You're right, the auction pics are terrible and probably go a long way toward explaining people's lack of enthusiasm. Mine arrived MISB though with a perfect Decepticon symbol painted on it.

Bonus Time delayed color change feature.

Try the KFC or FansToys versions, not only do you get a mini reflector but also a proper MP reflector too.
Mirage232
It's a nice accessory, but I think most want a real Masterpiece Reflector at this point. (Which probably will never happen since Takara is so damn Decepticonphobic.)

If it looks as rough as in the auction pics, there is no way I'd pay $20 + shipping for it.

For some reason I don't fully understand, I love some of the bonus accessories that Takara and Hasbro Asia put out. Grimlock's throne was a bust, but some of the others have been great. Anyway, I had no interest in this golden Megs, but I really wanted that Reflector accessory. I was never willing to pay big bucks for it, but recently I saw an eBay ad for the little camera accessory brand new for under $20 shipped:

At first I thought it was weird that no one jumped on these at this price, especially since a few have gone up for auction recently for $10 more. Eventually I hit the buy button…and I am sure glad I did. Mine arrived today and having it in hand, I can say that this is a great little accessory. Not worth more than $20…but definitely worth picking up if you find one for a good price. Oddly, no one has purchased one from this seller since I purchased mine. It arrived well packaged and in mint condition.

awesome, thanks!

Nope. At least what I got.
BWfan86
No double tape either?

I believe TFSource does. I ordered MP-05G Gold Megatron from them and it was unmodified.
BWfan86
Did any retailers offer this figure unmodified/ without the orange cap addition?

It looks like Takara took a picture of Megatron from that angle so he wouldn't tower over Optimus

So the whole figure is gold except for the feet which probably will turn gold-ish like the original MP-05 did :')

Obviously means that gold MP10 will be next.

Maybe a sign of things to come..
One can only hope.
