By way of Planet Iacon on Facebook and ACToys we have a look at the Hasbro version of the new Masterpiece Optimus Prime compared to the Takara-Tomy MP-10 Convoy Version 2. Hasbro's release comes with much lighter colors especially noticeable on the blue sections and features more paint on Spike (such as on his eyes and sleeves). Compared to the Japanese release which featured a gray Roller, the US release gets a blue Roller.

Blitz.
I was so happy to notice that the changes are near non-existent its really just the blue thats different and Roller having a switch oh and spikes smaller changes.

so far I can see....
Spike similar but different in the face and arms
Roller is blue
lighter blue replaces the darker blue
painted yellow rights on the cab
eyes seem lighter
rxlthunder
While I prefer the darker blue, painted light thingys above the windows are nicer.
SwerveGears
Am I dense... or is the American version better than the Japanese version?
Bountyan
I like the Hasbro one better. Painted eyes and lights ftw.
G1Wheeljack
I like the Hasbro Roller and Spike better, but I think I prefer the blue on Takara, at least based on these pictures and the lighting. A minor thing though given Hasbro's will be easier to get and cost less.
exclusacon
Please be 100$....

Takara's blue accurately matches the animation model.

It depends what you're looking for.
Ribieconvoy
That blue on the Hasbro version looks terrible, although the shots at Botcon and SDCC looked better, so I'm assuming it's just lighting. While I do admittedly prefer the blue on the Takara version regardless (more accurate to the movie than Hasbro's vibrant blue, which is odd since Hasbro said they were trying to match the appearance of Prime in the movie), I'm sure I'll prefer the pricetag on the Hasbro version more, whenever it's officially revealed
Bot Marley
They both look fantastic!
primetime77
need better photos to see the actual colors/finish etc. the pictures from sdcc did look better. As for what is more "accurate", it would depend ont eh episode and "lighting" during the scene. Certainly fans of g1 TOY optimus wil note takaras is faithful to the toy as well as the animation whil the hasbro one is accuarte to certain episodes as well as teh marvel comic blue. spike is obviously better in the hasbro version. blue roller is better too (like the g1 toy!). i have a takara and i'm geting one of these too (at least 1), though i prefer the takara (as of right now but that may change). one thing is the takara one's finish is remarkable.

I like that his eyes are painted and he doesn't look dead like Takara's but you know the rule if he aint gray he's a okay.

Overall differances I see from the Takara Version

Eyes are painted light blue
All of the Red seems slightly brighter
All of the blue is lighter including the truck windows
Painted Lights above the trucks cab
The Yellow on his waist is slightly darker
The inside of the trailer doesn't have silver sides.
Rollor is blue
Spike has some vary minor paint changes

Also, Hasbro's version lacks the silver detailing along the wheel wells in truck mode.

Hmmmm not bad....not bad at all.

I thought so too but a different angled shot made it seem there just really faint.

That's just a little bit of paint showing from the pieces that become the silver stripes on his torso in robot mode. At some angles, the portion that becomes part of the torso in robot mode is revealed. The actual molded detail for the area around his wheel wells in vehicle mode isn't painted on this like it is on the Takara version though. Not really a flaw, just another difference worth noting.

Works wonders for me. Easily a 9.5 out of 10, and I will be happy to take that home and place on my shelf, booting Battle Damage Hasbro MP01 out the door and on his way to ebay.

Don't forget the Trailor interior is grey unpainted plastic.

I've been debating if I should get the Takara version or the Hasbro one. I definitely like the Hasbro version 10 times more better. So I'm getting it.
leov36
There could never be a replacement for the epicness of mp01.
These pics make me like the Takara version better. But the pics from the conventions made me like the us version better. I think these pics are not very good and don't do the us version justice
Incepticon
Looks good for a super bright cartoony budget version of the figure. Next to the Takara version, though, it just looks like a miscolored KO.

In some ways it definitely is.

Although overall I think they're pretty close...considering the significant price difference.
madman1366
Don't care if the blue is dark or not, it still looks great! Coming on word that this might be a wide release also bodes well for seeing a good price on it. Now instead of $100 I'm seeing a potential for $80-$90, even if that means waiting for it to go on sale somewhere.
Vinjax01
I want this so bad!! Put me down for 2!!!!
SPLIT LIP
Wow Hasbro's is better. That light blue is nice!
Jonny Napalm
Yeah, that's a must buy Like the bold colour scheme, love the painted eyes. I can live with the interior of the trailer not being painted. I might even spray it myself.
xterry
I`ll put my vote at Takara, I hate that light blue...sorry....

and I believe this will really being a regular release instand of TRU only...
strangeguy32000
My "Battle Damaged" MP-01 Will always be Optimus Prime in my collection. I intend on getting Hasbro's MP-10 as an upgrade for Convoy, my Vintage Powermaster Optimus Prime.

There's a lot I like about MP-10, including his flexibility and Dearth of accessories (Trailer FTW) But MP-01 is still taller, heavier, has individual finger articulation, is less streamlined than his successor, and mine has the shorter smokestacks. Makes MP-01 a much better upgrade body for my Reissue Generation 1 Optimus Prime. MP-10 is the upgrade body for Convoy, my vintage Powermaster Optimus Prime, because He's smaller, lighter, more flexible, more streamlined, and more Japanese-looking than his predecessor (when I first got Powermaster Optimus Prime, my first comment was "wow, this guy looks SO Japanese" since he reminded me of the Robot Santa from The Simpsons)
(yes, I realize the "Japanese Version" of Powermaster Optimus Prime is Super God Ginrai, but I work with what I have and I don't have Super God Ginrai, and he's more expensive)
He also has the longer smokestacks like my vintage Powermaster Optimus Prime.

So basically the overall color scheme for the Takara version is darker. The trailers look the same.
Xzbit
so did they mention how they got the us mp-10?I still prefer the takara one but at the moment i will settle for a US one.
Knightsword
Hey cool its a G2 Prime, save for the trailer
StayingInTheBox
I can't wait to hopefully snag this. I have the Takara version, but I really like the lighter colors of the US one.
Liege Prime
The Hasbro version's blue really reminds me of the cartoon, and I'm fine with that. I like both, I don't think one really beats the other.
Snake_eyes1975
I.....Honestly like the Hasbro better. I am very happy about that!

We've got a Hasbro customer service rep saying wide release so far, but their information isn't always 100% accurate.

That's the first thing I thought also.
Cyclonus79
IMO it looks as cheap as the price there gonna give it. Ill stick with my Takara version. It's more collector friendly. That includes the packaging as well.
crazygalvatron
Looks good! Think I like the darker blue on the Takara version better. Wish the Takara version had it's eyes painted blue and it would be perfect.

Ah, ok. Thanks for the clarification.

If that and the trailer interior is all we lose than I'm totally good with that.
Angelwave
I'm thinking the camera's flash is giving a bit of false impression there in regards to the colors' proper hues.......

Personally the significant price diff (assuming there is one) makes them not close at all. I do get the opportunity to get it early is worth something though, but for someone considering which to get today I think it it isn't close at all.
hoosierdaddy04
I prefer the Takara dark blue as well... Since I have a much deeper connection to the G1 toys than I do the cartoon. However, due to the (hopeful) price difference I will buy Hasbro's w\o batting an eye. After my "hobby" funds have a chance to rebuild I may go after the Takara one. It's all going to depend on how fast Takara is going to pump out newer MP's\Soundwaves cassettes.
butz
Looks nice. Glad they didn't stamp a bunch of totally unnecessary decals all over it.
cappeca
I like Hasbro's better.
JoeHavok
It's not even close, the Takara version is by far the best.

Even tho I already owned the Taktomy version, I might get the Hasbro one too.
doctajones428
The light blue eyes makes him look so much more animated and lively. The yellow lights definitely improves the look too.

Can't wait to get this guy!
hrothgars
Takara is cool, Hasbro def. has a G1 cartoon look, but I still prefer MP-01 & MP-04 to either of these.
justamaze
I think if you haven't purchased the figure yet, this Hasbro version will please you very much. Looks very impressive.
The painted lights on the roof is the best upgrade over the Takara version. I love this version (mold) of Prime, the trailer is pure win.
