Takara-Tomy's "Mr Starscream" Shogo Hasui has put out an image via Twitter of a test shot of the upcoming Masterpiece MP-12 Lambor aka Sideswipe. In his Tweet, Hasui-san says that:

"MP-12 Lambor comes up to test shot stage (the metal mold is done). The accuracy of the metal mold has been improved. Look forward to this going on sale in October."

The image shows an unpainted test shot of Sideswipe for plastic color check, meaning he is close to production and looking very sharp. We certainly will be looking forward to this one being released in October!

It looks great but seems to basically be an $85 Binaltech. Going by the current state of BT molds will we see this out of China for $15?
Tekmen
Actually~ it's a testshot for plastic color check~ a development stage pretty closed to final production.
Thenames9
Looks great. The waist looks a bit dodgy though.

Thanks for the clarification, I'll update the main post.
Batman
Looks awesome. I love that big blocky chest.

Nice find
opt1musaber
He reminds me an awful lot of BT Lambor.
KA
Oh man i got excited to see the magnus pic then realized its just g1 magnus armor bashed to mp10.

Wow, the MP line has gone from amazing to average if this is any indication. I hope this is not a result of trying to make them more mainstream because of pricing. Most MP collectors have no problem ponying up the cash for amazing G1 representations. We don't need them to cheap out on MP's to entice a purchase.
PoweredConvoy
The figure looks great.
Stepper
Metal mold?? It may mean it is fully die cast, yipee
Omnius
So far so good, they've done a great job of capturing the character's look IMO.
miscreant
It's not that i'm against having an MP Sideswipe.....but everytime l look at it......there seems to be something cost effective about it.

I think he meant mold made of metal, rather than mold for metal.

Although some small metal parts aren't out of the question.

Your kidding right?

Besides, a figure entirely made of diecast? That thing would fall under its own weight and not be play friendly at all.....cringe at the thought of a an entire transformer made of diecast. I wish they would stop with the diecast parts all together and put the budget saved toward more moving parts or more detail or heck, even a slight scale up!

Yes, it is a mold made of metal. All molds are made of metal since they need to withstand the heat of molten liquid plastic being poured into them.

I'll be waiting for Red if I do bite. The big chest better fits his character model.

I haven't laughed so much in such a long time.

Transformers fans are cheap, i'm sorry, we as a fandom, are some of the cheapest bastards you will ever see. you realize how much BITCHING there is from pricing for mp-09 and mp-10. people want a masterpiece level transformer for 10 bucks, hell look at all the folks bitching about 15 dollar deluxes.

people are STILL bitching at the price of lambor/sideswipe here, and if you compare him to other high end japanese robot toys, his price is a steal!

This fandom just makes me shake my head sometimes

In Japanese we say "金型(Kanagata - metal mold)", but actually it just means "Mold" in English.
TigerBlade
Look past the lack of detailing and it looks fucking fantastic to me. Roll on the rest of the '84 line up.
Stepper
Sorry to say but i still prefer figures come with lots of die cast parts, just like what they did to MP01,all the Binaltech figures, that is what make Masterpiece line or Binaltech line so special in the 1st place.

Still rocking the plastic wheels?

(I get that you wouldn't add rubber to a test shot but the wheel look normal and not hub sized, which would be needed to accommodate the rubber ones.)
Stepper
Hoping that it will be rubber wheels instead of plastic

So do I but a test shot with full sized plastic wheels doesn't give me much hope.

Ooh, gimme, gimme .... already got my pre-order done and paid for over at Kapow toys.
Cal
He seems to have a blackface thing going on here. Pig.

Thanks for the Japanese lesson, Ricochet. I'd love to see more of that around the threads. :-D

I am still holding out hope for rubber wheels. It's not a deal breaker, but it would be very disappointing to see them go cheap on the little details like that.
Prowl 2009
Looks so good!
LamboTwinLove
Man I am loving that Sideswipe... of course I still wish he were bigger. But whatever. Can't wait to get him and hopefully his brother comes out soon.
slugslinger2004
I hope beyond hope this has diecast and rubber wheels. If it has neither I'll skip the Takara version and go for the eventual Hasbro release.
Shockwave9227
I might bite for Red Alert when near-finished version photos are uploaded. This mold doesn't look half bad though.

How complicated does this need to be? It's an accurate version of G1 Sideswipe! He's not a very complicated guy...
Rodimus Mike
I read Metal Mold,is this gonna have diecast in it.I really hope it does to give it that extra G1 feel.I am so ready for this to come out.
Rodimus Mike
Hey KA,you do realize this is not an Ultra Magnus mold, its Sideswipe,I take it you need glasses if you can't see that.

So far they have cheaped out on the wheels, windows and size. I think these are moves meant to cut corners and make it more affordable to fans with less cash. Cutting corners defeats the purpose of calling it a masterpiece. Either it is top-notch high quality all around or it isn't. Don't put a turd in a box and call it a masterpiece. We aren't fooled.
DecepticonSpike
I like. Does anyone know if there will be a US release?
Oilspill
Looking very nice. I hope to hell there's no diecast - it adds some nice heft to a figure, but that doesn't do much for me when the paint chips off, or the weight wears on the joints or the cost could have been spent elsewhere.

Rubber wheels would be nice but I don't think there's much chance of that at this stage.

Still, looks like an excellent G1 Sideswipe!
KA
gotta concur, we ARE a bunch of cheap bastards.

"yay, they finally made a collector grade line!"
"cost THAT much?!! Fuck that, i'll wait for clearance."

I have to agree with this somewhat. Especially the size. Yeah yeah he's in scale but he's in with this NEW scale. Old scale when there really was no scale was a lot better to me because it really focused more on having a large scale bot then a line scale.

And I don't give a damn about scale. I'm not buying the whole MP line. I'm going for specific bots.

But I get that a majority out there want all of them in scale with each other to display them all together.

They are putting a delux in a box and calling it a MP...

Will it stop me from buying? NOPE! Am I disappointed? YEP. Does it matter? NOT IN THE LEAST.
vektsilver
action pose really makes him look way less rigid.

I was feeling he may be tooo blocky even for G1 but this helps.

However who is the head designer at takara cause the heads always seem wayyyyyy off on these Masterpieces. Starscream being an exception for the most part. I d love to see a more cartoon G1 face on Sideswipe.

Oddly I was a big red alert fan so I will be going that route but its hard to pass up sideswipe twice in a life time
Cloudraker
The more I see of this the more I want it. Yet, I really dont want to make room for another masterpiece figure and the price is keeping me from a purchase.
Timothy.R
i'm sorry.. but i REALLY don't want my MP sideswipe being the same size as MP10.. that'd be ridiculous looking. i think this thing is the perfect size. and yes, scale does matter.

.. and for everyone still whining about the price.. wait for the eventual hasbro release and chill out.

Well your MP Sideswipe is not the size of MP10 YAY for you.

Would only be ridiculous looking in a full collection displayed for scale and all that. If you were to say only want to display a large Sideswipe and Sunstreaker together then it would look fan-fucking-tastic.

And no. Scale does not actually matter.

People are only upset by the price because he is basically a deluxe size figure. I don't care about the price, it's Sideswipe I'd shell out whatever anyone asked for a Sideswipe. So biggie to me. I just want a large Sideswipe.

Thank you.

I just figure if Hasbro and TT don't give me what I really want I can always get a custom.

a 1:18 scale Sideswipe would be awesome in my room.
