Transformers Generations to be released in Japan as Transformers United

Posted on 09-20-2010 at 02:02 PM by Sol Fury under Transformers Generations Classics 3.0
Robot-28
Some great news from Red leader of our sponsor Kapow Toys. He reports that the popular Transformers Henkei line, the series that the Classics and Universe 2.0 toys were released under in Japan, will be returning in December. Renamed Transformers United, the line will see the Transformers Generations line get a Japanese release. Ten releases are known so far, and the information we have received from Red leader suggests that they will also have metallic paint jobs. Whether this is in the style of the chrome on the past Henkei releases, or something more like the Takara-Tomy Transformers Animated releases remains to be seen.

The ten toys that have been listed so far are:

1) UN01 - Optimus Prime Cybertron Mode
2) UN02 - Bumblebee Cybertron Mode
3) UN03 - Cliffjumper Cybertron Mode
4) UN04 - Megatron Cybertron Mode
5) UN05 - Soundwave Cybertron Mode
6) UN06 - Optimus Prime
7) UN07 - Bumblebee
8) UN08 - Autobot Drift
9) UN09 - Megatron
10) UN10 - United Straxus

Join in the discussion and the speculation on what this could potentially mean on our 2005 Boards by hitting the discuss button.

Awesome news!

Very interesting. I'm curious as well about the OP and Megatron, I didnt get any of the previous versions of the Classics/Henkei OP and Megatron and I've been eyeing them up lately. Cant wait for some pics.
Triggerhappy
Oooooh Aaaaah : )

Just as I was considering Darkmount, I'll think I'll wait and check out United Straxus before I do!
The touch79
I would feel like such a fool if they released an ultra magnus.
guard convoy
oh hell yes! can't wait to see

please be a more comic accurate colorsceme for straxus
Waverider
Thank you for the good news.
Venksta
Thanks for the news Red Leader. Looking forward to what the non WFC Prime, Megatron, and Bumblebee are. As well as the paint jobs.
catz

a re-release of henkei or hidden confirmation of a new mold?

I don't see how. Japan never got the Marvel comics, and additionally, Straxus appeared in two different colour schemes in his two appearances in the Marvel US comic.

The colour scheme for the Generations toy is based on Straxus' appearance on the cover of the fan publication "The Obscure Omnibus", which Monzo gave the Hasbro team for reference. Cover colours by David Willis are an amalgamation of Straxus' two different colour schemes.

Will the Hasbro version be out by then?

I think we can expect a mixed bag, at best, w/regard to color schemes.

I also suspect that they may shoe-horn some future non-Generations Hasbro releases into the line.

HTFD Seaspray in G1 colors would of been perfect for TF United.
ORIO
Great news!

Wonder if they'll have chrome.

Only downside, that stupid acronym gets another letter. So it'll be CHUUG or U-CHUG or something equally unappealing.
ORIO
Double CHUUG post.
Red leader
lol @ U=CHUG

You do know you just coined the phrase ?
Optimus Convoy
Takara is re-releasing Henkei Optimus Prime and Megatron right? I hope its in different colors. Probably slightly different colors on Prime like his hands. There's some black on it when it should be all blue.
Vangelus
Transformers United is a damn awesome line name.

The whole CHUUG/U 2.9128 Ver-3 thing remains physically shoved off my radar.

Hell no! I blame the original acronym on Thundershot

That additional letter was gonna be shoehorned in there one way or another!

Aren't all of those figures going to be released under the yellow box line in Japan anyway? We've already seen Brighter Colours Seaspray and the other movie guys, modified for Japan's market.
Skywave
So now we'll have a CHUGU line, nice! Maybe the non-WFC figure are just re-release of the normal henkei version since they could have been popular (they where often restocked, at least Prime/Megatron).

so far from this list nothing "interest" me without picture (be damned temping new deco), wich is nice since so many high-price stuff are comming out!

but Straxus had a different colourscheme every time he appeared.

the listing of another optimus, megatron and bumblebee intrigues me. Megatron and optimus may turn out to be the old classics 2 pack figures. (they never saw JP release as far as I recall) but bumblebee is a mystery. maybe the classic camaro from the movie line with a new head to represent the new IDW Bee.

I refuse to use the CHUG acronym, they're all classics universe to me. (and thats coming from someone who owns figures from all 4 lines.
Chris McFeely
I'm hoping for a manga that picks up where the old Henkei series left off.
Fort Max
Quite a different line up to Hasbro's, I wonder what's going on.
evil ivotron
looking forward to them

Everyone knows it's "Classiverserations Henknited" anyway.

So, these Japanese listings actually follow the Movie/Animated lead and say "Optimus Prime" instead of "Convoy"? Are there price-points attached to the listings?

Wondering if the Op and Megs listed are re-dos of the Deluxe Classics molds, as I don't think those have had much play in Japan (there was the clear "Sons of Cybertron" version though)
Fort Max
My guess would be that the unknown Prime, Megatron and Bumblebee are repaints of the old classics figures with the new metallic paint look.
BraveMax
Drift is an interesting choice. Correct me if I'm wrong... But he's never had supporting fiction in Japan, right?

Has Straxus? And why is it "Autobot Drift" and "United Straxus"? Since when has Japan had naming issues like the US?
PoweredConvoy
I laugh at any of the silly posters who thought that Drift and Straxus were not going to be released in Japan.

This is excellent news!

Randy
Houndvoice
Great news, looking forward to pics!

But really, Transformers United??? Sounds like a real kinky fotball team.
There, I've ruined that name for everybody, right?
Scythe
Is Cliffjumper Cybertron Mode just WFC BB in red?
Angelwave
What I wanna know is this......

If Generations Thunderwing will be repainted and remolded into Black Shadow.
G1Wheeljack
Nce to see this returning, I hope we see some pics soon.

It'll probably be Gentei, or whatever they decide to call the exclusives for the line.
Deceptigtar
so japan does henkei.

then us tries to incorporate some of those and new ones into the generations line.

now, japan takes those in generations not released in japan, and makes a new henkei line.

awesome.
PoweredConvoy
Red leader, any word on a release date for these? Thanks!

nemisispringer
How about changing th acronym to GUUCH OR C U HUG

or even CUUG-H get it like cougar
Deceptigtar
from chug to guuch. lol.
TRANS+CRAZY
Interesting... Henkei is now Transformers United.

And just when I was getting used to using the CHUG acronym.
Omnius
Very welcome news! Can't wait to see the differences from the Hasbro releases - will they still have random chrome?
Trailbreaker77
I can not wait to see what they do with Tracks and Jazz, and hoping for another reissue of Hot Rod.
Auto Morph
Not bothered about the Henkei/United versions of WFC figures, and I can't see how Drift can be massively improved upon by the Japanese.
Will wait to see about Darkmount as I already have the Hasbro version.

I wonder if they'll release United Thrust!

I believe most Western TF comic-original characters have never appeared in Japanese fiction.

As for trademark issues, TakaraTomy have had modified trademarks since Henkei, I believe. They've even had modified trademarks on ROTF toys where Hasbro didn't need to modify them.

B-Fox
Calling it now. Drift's sword will be chromed.

I don't think any of the WFC guys will have drastic changes made to their paint schemes. The only two I can see even having a slightly different deco are Megatron (grey instead of white) and Bumblebee (red "pika-cheeks"). I also doubt Straxus will look any different from the Generations version.

No clue what molds are being used for UN07, UN06, and UN09. Maybe these are new figures and the listed Megatron is a G2 tank update? Oooooor they're the Henkai figures done up in Movie-inspired decos?

And when they get to Scourge, I wonder if he'll look different enough to warrant treating him as the real deal and troop-built Generation Scourges as the Sweeps.
Laser_Optimus
Curious. I'm interested to see what the BB, Megs and Prime listings are for... rereleases or new molds? Could go either way... and... I can't see this being a release of the upcoming Legends figures as the last time Henkei released Legends they did them in two two-packs of three figures each... can't see them doing separate releases this time around.
Sepultron
Dammit. Knew I should've waited.
Wollstone
Hooray for pointless and random chrome.
Sammael
I'm cautiously optimistic.
