Via TFND.net, we have some in-hand images of Transformers: Generations Deluxe Jhiaxus! These pics give us a nice look at the figure – Jhiaxus is a remold/redeco of Generations Starscream, with a new head, new wings, new cockpit, and new weapons. He is also very, very orange. He and the rest of his wave should be out soon, so keep an eye out!
Check out TFW’s selection of photos after the break, and view the full gallery at TFND.net!

That's not the design I was talking about. The new chest on Jhiaxus (plus the crotch piece he shares with Armada Starscream) are based on the original IDW Jhiaxus design:
The image you posted is a very recent one, and was intended to depict the new toy (although all the artist had been told was that the new Jhiaxus toy was a retool of Armada Starscream in RID colours, hence why it has Starscream's chest/jet kibble and different colour layouts).

They kinda are. The new Generations figures weigh less at every size class than the old Universe/Classics/Generations ones did, pre-FOC. (As I recall, for example, FoC Jazz has about half the mass of RTS Jazz – 2.4 oz vs. 4.4 oz or something like that.) The only way that can happen yet leave the figures staying roughly the same volume is by spreading the plastic thinner and using more empty space. You know, more hollow.
BidoofdudeofOz
They're not more hollow. They're visibly hollow. They've neglected to cover up the hollow bits you can see. Transformers have never been solid pieces of plastic with only bits to put joints in.

ummm….NO
Wood cannot be injected into mass production molds and be used to make tens of thousands of an item.
This is exactly why wood toys went away….as synthetic products and manufacturing means come online (see tin toys and plastic toys)….wood got priced out of the toy market due to cost of manufacture per unit being way too high .
SG Roadbuster
wood?
unicronic
The quality of the IDW rebooted generations line has been pretty damn good.
Plastic is a finite resource btw. If you can invent an infinitely available material to replace plastic that can become cheaper every year then you will be the savior of all toy collectors.
OriginalFire
This figure looks kinda boring. It needs more color
DarkEyes
And these are the new Deluxe, smaller and more hollow every day….How will be Transformers in the 40th anniversary? they will be make of paper?
Optimus Convoy
Doesn't seem IDW accurate compared to this pic.

I actually really like this "Jhiaxus" figure. His torso retool is just much better than Starscream's torso, with its jet nosecone dong.

I wonder if it is:
a) worth waiting for a better deco
or
b) waiting for a better (3rd party?) Jhiaxus. I realize that much of the art he was featured in was VERY nebulous as far as design elements go.
This really doesn't scratch my particular itch at all. I forget if I even have it pre ordered, and if I don't, I'm not sure I'd be all that bothered.
Starfire22
I know right?
I'm just happy to have a Jhiaxus at all. (Might give the guns to Nightbeat though)

Have to agree with you there.

I look forward to finally having a Jhiaxus toy

I never followed the G1 or G2 comics and I most certainly don't "have" a Jhiaxus, and yet I still expected him to come out in orange (which made a lot more sense to me than thinking he's peach). There's only two things the name means to me: a name drop from the G2 comic, and a character recycled and reused in the new IDW comic. I expected him to fulfill the latter a lot more than the former and the figure does a reasonable job of that.
And somehow his bot mode looks that much better than Armada Starscream.

I never realized just how much fans care so much about the G2 deco.

It's not 'merging' anything into one cohesive design. The design is clearly -as far as a retool allows, as opposed to a full new mold- G2 Jhiaxus, from the head design right down to the detailing on his canopy and the bat-wings. Nothing, other than the colors it's now sporting, suggests this mold was ever intended to homage that other Jhiaxus toy.
What you describe, a merge into one, is a lose-lose situation: a character that was finally getting a proper toy gets a color homage that homages….a nameslap nobody. This doesn't work as a homage to the toy you describe, because the mold doesn't look anything like that toy (and even the color placement is WAY off), and it doesn't work as a G2 Jhiaxus homage, because the colors are super wrong.
You talk as if G2 Jhiaxus is somehow just a single entity in a list of Jhiaxi worth making into a new toy…that's totally untrue, because again: G2 Jhiaxus is THE version of the character, with the same general looks, that has been used in the Marvel comics, IDW comics AND ReGeneration One comic. I just checked, apparently EVEN in the Universe comic that accompanied the toys orange Jhiaxus is part of, he is shortly seen in his G2 body before being reformatted.
The most orange Jhiaxus has been used is in Funpub's Wings universe, and hah, guess what? The artists added G2 Jhiaxus' side vents to his helmet to make the resemblance to the original better.
There is simply nothing worth homaging in the RID toy. Nothing. He's a nobody and a straight up repaint of another character. But I guess an orange and grey jet probably does sell better than one that's yellow and white and green and red. I bet that's the only of two possibilities why they went with this 'homage' at all (the second, as I've stated before, might be the person who came up with the colors had the RID toy and has some super strong childhood feelings about it, or something).
Why do you keep defending this? I don't think anyone is really saying it is a bad mold, or that the colors look shit (some random 1% excluded, maybe) – just that people prefer another palette. Nobody is forbidding you from liking this.
But there really is not a sillier toy to defend, and there is no exact situation in Transformers like this, where a character's toy, anticipated for years, is finally seeing release only to have this happen.
-There are other (RID/Universe) repaints, but they all have other toys in proper colors out already.
-there are other nameslap Transformers characters, but those do not share a name with an interesting and prominent comic character; i.e. nobody would reallycare.
-There are other Transformers toys that get the 'wrong' colorscheme (like ROTF Elita-1), but those are toys of characters that do not have the well-established popularity of Jhiaxus.
Probably only RID Bludgeon comes close, but I'd say the ROTF voyager captures the character and his colors well enough. He's a tank, in orange and green, with a skull head. Not a yellow Megatron.
Takara, just release Jhiaxus in the proper colorscheme. Then everything is well and we can all be friends again.

A thousand times, this.

I will be very surprised if anyone considers RID Jhiaxus "their" Jhiaxus, in the same way that almost certainly nobody considers, say, RID Bludgeon "their" Bludgeon.
