Generation 2 Laser Optimus Prime, Trailbreaker to be released in Generations / 2010 Main Line

All of whom we have previously seen (well, except for Wreck-Gar's motorcycle mode).
However, the TFCC magazine also shows off a couple of brand new, never before seen toys - the first is a Legends Class toy named Trailcutter, who is an update of Generation 1 Trailbreaker with a lawyer-friendly name change. Yes he might only be a Legend, but at long last, Trailbreaker gets some modern line love!
Then comes the really left-field reveal. Yesterday we reported that a Walmart computer listing had a Deluxe Class Optimus Prime among the other toys listed. Well, that mystery has now been solved - coming soon is a new Deluxe Class rendition of Generation 2 Laser Optimus Prime. It's described as looking just like the original (pictured left) but without the cheat on the chest windows, and naturally comes with a sword. No pictures are available just yet but once they become available through official channels we'll update you here on the TFW frontpage.
Also revealed in this issue, and it's ironic that he's the footnote in an awesome news story given that he's pretty awesome in his own right, is that Masterpiece Rodimus Prime will be seeing a US release - without his trailer. He'll be a store exclusive and might come with some new accessories to balance out not having the trailer. Even so, US owners who cannot import the Japanese release - or who never cared for the trailer to begin with - can own this excellent update of Hot Rod and his Matrix enhanced alter-ego.

Well that is sure encouraging! Here's to hoping deluxe "Trailcutter" is on the horizon as well.
In Universe 2.0 we got a Legends Jazz, and now there is a deluxe upcoming. Maybe they are using the Legends class as a "Preview" class.
Or just a means to secure a name trademark, maybe.

The flames also say "movie Prime". In truck mode anyway. 'Bot is 100% Laser Prime. I also love that the truck is sort of "rounded" in a way that fits in with the rounded look of the first Classics Prime. And thank God, the back of the truck looks like a back of a truck instead of robot legs.

Also, they doubled up on the rear tires, like you often see on a real truck, so he's got four tires on each leg. It's an awesome touch.

Anyone else happy about the no rodimus trailer?
This works for me for several reasons.
1.) The bot mode can still go rodimus prime.
2.) Additional accessories are always good! Hope he has his own Matrix and Fishing rod.
3.) I was going to end up leaving the trailer in the box anyway, much like the FP excess canons, I have no need or want to display the canons or empty trailer, the bot modes suffice enough.
4.) God hasbro, you're made of so much freaking win lately, but seriously... Where's Kup and Arcee dammit!
My only gripe? Well really none. The Laser Prime looks awesome, and will be awesome as a nemesis/scourge recolor, but until he's released as that, my wallet can BREATHE! So thank you hasbro, thank you thank you thank you! I won't have to break the bank this time around just to keep up with the releases. A good spacing is very welcomed.

Deluxe, it's all deluxe in generations. Unless marked as legends. If it's voyager, it's slotted into the movie lines for now.

Epic, epic win there Hasbro. I'll definitely be buying the new Prime and it's hopefully inevitable Scourge repaint (if it doesn't get that treatment, I'll just buy a second one to kitbash). This is by far the best bit of news for a good while now.
Also nice to know that Trailbreaker is finally getting a homage. Hopefully he gets a Deluxe at some point.
Can't say I'm surprised by Rodimus, but it's still nice to get confirmation he's on the way. Probably won't get him, but I'll wait and see what extra's Hasbro gives him.

Im thinking on canning one of my pre-orders for Takara's Roddy and buy one Hasbro for play and the other MISB. Or fuck it, keep all three. That why I can have one as Roddy, one as Hot Rod and one MISB.

LaserPrime is totally unexpected, but an interesting choice.
I would've gone with Powermaster Prime myself, but that would require a larger size class, and may conflict with plans for TF3.
I'm definitely interested to see more, but I can't get over the feeling that he looks like some variety of movie Optimus KO.
On another note, Wreck-Gar's bike mode is all kinds of win.

The G2 Prime is... a maybe. He'd make good use as a companion piece to the 2006 green tank Megatron, at least. Not really super feeling it. I prefer the original Laser Rod. Can't yet put my finger on why.

Okay, I'll admit that I was less than thrilled when it was seemingly evident that Prime would be Deluxe. I honestly thought it was going to be that Two-pack Prime everybody hates.
But G2 Laser Rod Optimus Prime? That changes everything! I must have him, and of course the garenteed Scourge repaint (if Hasbro doesn't do it, FunPub would instead with a RID set).
God, what a great week to be a Generations fan. Such awesome toys, and on a slightly different note this puts a WHOLE lot of new potential into future Botcon exclusives that aren't Unicron Trilogy repaints.

Trail breaking, you break off the beaten trail path.
Trail cutting, you cut your own path.
In essence they are the same. You still go offroad. Just one happens to be free to use.

Can't wait to get the Mag. This line is starting to get HUGE. I can't beleive all the stuff that is planned over the next year. Can't wait to see the pics of Rodimus Prime, but it still won't stop me from ordering the FP upgrade.

Cut, break, blast, doesn't bother me. Trailbreaker is BACK! That's awesome in itself. Even if he is a Legend now, that happened with Jazz in Universe, and look at him - Deluxe Special Ops Jazz is right around the corner. Trailcutter might one day follow suit. Until then I'll be happy with the Legend.
New Optimus sounds awesome, I'll look forward to my magazine to check him out. I might wait for a Scourge recolor, or I might get both - see how I feel about the mold. I know a couple of Black Convoy fans who'll love a Scourge recolor though.

While Rodimus won't have the trailer, Hasbro said they will give him some accessories and he will be an exclusive. Not sure which store yet, though.

I'm impressed with G2 Laser Prime, though I almost wish it wasn't quite so accurate in using the 'classic' black/red/with a gray chest. The new transformation with the old colors make the vehicle mode come off a bit strange to me. Looking forward to a RiD Scourge repaint (probably 'Nemesis Prime'

Love that they found a name they could use to do A new Trailbreaker. But REALLY bummed it is a Legends. I LIKE LEgends but only for appropriate characters who SHOULD BE SMALL. Trailbreaker was the tallest bot on the ARK and I've been dying for an update forever. Legends size just wont satisfy.

Watching my mailbox now... I don't suppose Laser Prime has any LED tech, does he? That would really put the figure over the top for me. As for Trailcutter, I can't wait to see the pics, but I'd always hoped he'd get called Trailblazer if he absolutely couldn't be Trailbreaker. He was actually called Trailblazer in an early episode, wasn't he?

There's something a bit off-putting about it alright.
The original used fake windows, and while I'm not a fan of that kind of transformation cheat, using the truck windows instead gives the generations update a different feel. It kinda reminds me of ROTF Legends Optimus like that with the slant of the windows, and the smallness of the rest of the torso.
The proportions on his legs don't seem as good either, and the big wheels bring a certain clunkiness to it.
I also don't like how they streamline the truck. I dunno what it is, but it seems to give it less presence.
