First look at Generations Red Alert

Posted on 06-02-2010 at 01:21 AM by Sol Fury under Transformers Generations Classics 3.0
Generations-Red-Alert
An auction has been listed on Taobao for Transformers Generations Red Alert, accompanied by the first publicly available picture of his alternate mode! Check out the image by clicking the thumbnail left of this story. The differences between this and the previously released Henkei Red Alert should be fairly clear - where Henkei Red Alert stuck pretty faithfully to the Generation 1 Red Alert design, this new Generations version goes for a more modern update. He also features a different lightbar compared to the Henkei version.

MECHADOOM
Nice! Really hope to get my grubby little paws on this one.
Deceptichage
Nice! I have the Henkei one, but I will want to pick this up as well.
Shelfwarmercon
Thanks S250!

I'm surprised the robot head still uses a black helmet.
hupla
A link leading to a legit new picture, but also leads to a TFCC picture? HOW DELICIOUS! Your move TFW, your move
fisch
Sooooo glad I held off dropping $60-80 on the henkei version.
guard convoy
beautiful

I'm so excited for generations, as I missed out on classics and the universe deluxes

Same thing for me. So pumped for this line.
Wheeljack_Prime
Great!

EDIT: Did we already know the windows were clear?
bellpeppers
Yet another baught-on-site figure.
Powersa
Oh yeah Generations for the Thrust and RA
E. C. R. Former
That looks cool. I'm still sticking with my Henkei one but it sure must be great for the guys who didn't want to import one from Japan.
NCStarscream
Although I have no interest in picking this figure up, I have to say it looks to be another home run for Generations.
TheBigMachine
Where's his roof motor thing?
SwindlesShop
how'd they make his roof thing on his gun :O? i cant do that with my sideswipe
Skylock
So glad I didn't jump the gun on the henkei version, but too bad I couldn't do the same for Thrust.
Valkysas
Nevermind, link removed from first post.
Abrogate
Well, it's not as sharp looking as the Henkei, but it's not bad looking either. If all I care about is the character and not the exact colors, then this will definitely suffice for $13.
Trek
Soooo glad I have this pre-ordered.

I have my Sunstreaker posed with his gun like that. You clip the engine blocks down over the widest part of the gun, but it's a little hit and miss as to whether it works.
barrelks
It is nice, and I will pick it up (probably a couple). At the same time, I am very happy to have the Henkei version. They sure have a lot of differences that seem to make them both look great. I am really digging being able to see the Autobot symbol through the window for some reason, but the "Fire Rescue" on the side looks a little cheesy IMO. Would have also liked a transparent light bar, but it will be an easy $12 spent.
[Wing_Saber-X]
Looks nice!

But IMHO, I still prefer the Henkei over this.
AMG
Awesome.

Anyone else notice the irony that, for a change in the recent trends, the US gets characters later, and give them better paint jobs?

I foresee a Reprolabels set on the horizon

This is not better than the henkei version.
miscreant
Definitely prefer the clear windows over the blue... and random chrome spoilers do little for me.

I'm sure Reprolables can come up with something more 1985-accurate.

It's not necessarily worse either, but it is substantially different.

Yep *looks at last post*
Red Alert
How dare they turn me into a common toy
Laser_Optimus
Yeah, any arguing over whether this is 'better' than the Henkei version is absolutely pointless. They're both different. It's not better and it's not worse. Honestly, depends on what version of Red you really want... Want a G1 toy accurate version? Then the Generations release is for you. Prefer your paint schemes to be show accurate? Then the Henkei release is what you're looking for.

The only thing I have negative to say about Generations Red Alert is that, while I like the design of the new light-bar, I'm not a fan of the apparent choice to make it in solid plastic. That said, it certainly wouldn't be a deal breaker for me if I didn't already have the Henkei version.
jestermon
I love this will look great beside my G1. I am also glad I have some left over Red Alert stickers, maybe they will look at home on this guy.

Honestly, I'll be glad just to have one. Henkei RA was a bit more expensive and harder to get for me, whereas this one I can [hopefully] get at retail for the deluxe price point.
Ultrawave
Seriously guys.

John Kaufmann.

He's the dirt buster.

I think that's the big reveal here.

Yeah, for some reason Henkei Red Alert shot up in price after the initial set of Preorders. I got lucky and got mine for the typical preorder price for Henkei's (I believe he was $24.99 or something), but now he's crazy expensive. I guess he just never got a second run like a lot of the others did.

Frankly, I'm rather happy to see him and Thrust become more widely available for people who couldn't get them. I say bring on Dirge and Thundercracker too!

Hopefully they didn't retool the lightbar... that sticky paint fiasco left me with a spare Prowl...
Automorpher
I'm glad it did got released after all. I'm still lacking this piece in my Classics/Universe collection & I don't want all that chrome on the Henkei version.
prowl26
We knew this would happen, it was just a matter of when. Looks great, I wish Hasbro was not trying so hard this year to make me want to sign over my paychecks to them.
Auto Morph
Man, along with Thrust, I am just so very relieved we are getting this. The prices for pretty much any Henkeis nowadays are spiralling out of control and I'd just about given up hope of owning RA, Thrust or the store exclusive seekers.
So now I'm just waiting for future waves when we can get our hands on Thundercracker and Skywarp and surely Dirge must also be in the pipeline?
Autobot Burnout
SO bought. Even though this will mark the third version of a mold that I own (already got Sunstreaker and Sideswipe), I need more emergency vehicles. Plus he'll go great with my Universe Inferno, and all my Classicsverse Autobots in general namely because he doesn't have any chrome whatsoever (which is great, because I do not like chome on toys that has to potential to chip off).
exclusacon
I understand that the henkei version may be better, but i m not shelling out 50-60$ for a deluxe size...with the patient I know hasbro will get around to it...and for about 11-12$ this is a win for me...with generations it might be their best line ever, as they will cover all the generations....
MrSoundmeister
its official: im getting that repaint if it comes out. also that black head... soooo autobot freakin' clamp down.

Me too. I keep thinking they will release it in the US eventually.
Trailbreaker77
I will be picking this up even though I already have the Henkei version.
Mechafire
Looks great. Might actually like him more than the Henkei. Don't like the chromed wheels, though.

Dirge seems to be a no-brainer. Skywarp, however, was a Target exclusive here with Ultra Magnus, and will probably not get another release. People on the board have said that Thundercracker won't be done because of the difficulty of getting the paint job to be different from Botcon Thundercracker. Personally, I think that is asinine and I think that a nice G1 style Thundercracker will be on our way before the end of the Generations line.

That being said, I'm more curious if there's a Grapple in our future. I'm not gonna hold my breath on Artfire, though.
Smokescreen
Looks nice but I think I'll pass. I'm happy with my Henkei version.

I think listings a few months ago did mention a Grapple figure.

I'll stick with Henkei Alert, might pick one of these up for a kitbash though. It already being white should allow improvement to the wheeljack customs out there.

BOUGHT!!

So does that mean we'll be seeing some comparison pics and a revival of ye olde comparison thread?

Of course as well as some new shots of Thrust as well. Speaking of which I have a lot of shooting to do.

They did. Although, IIRC, it was listed under HFTD, so there's speculation as to if its a new mold, or retool.
