Here is a little conundrum for you to puzzle over, friends. The next issue of IDW’s awesome Robots in Disguise ongoing was posted early on iBooks – and in one crowd scene, the eagle-eyed among us might be able to spot a familiar looking body type on one of the Decepticons. By way of Allspark user Spectre we’ve got the panel in question (left) – you can see it is a Generation 2 Dreadwing ATB styled redeco of the IDW stealth bomber Megatron.
Ordinarily, this would not be much more than a case of an artist using an existing design, tweaked, to make a new character to fill out a crowd scene. But with the recent revelation of IDW’s characters getting toys – among them, the stealth bomber Megatron – and Hasbro’s penchant for reusing molds to break even on design and production costs, and you move from a random cameo into the possibility that Dreadwing here is being planned as a future reuse of Megatron’s mold.
As always we will not know for sure until we get some official confirmation of a toy being in the works – but the evidence on the table presents a compelling argument, alongside a perfect way to recognise and commemorate Generation 2 as a part of a 30th anniversary line.

Man I hope your wrong….
Autovolt 127
I doubt we'll get Ratbat unless it's like a TRU GDO exclusive or something.
YoungPrime
I'll probably get this mold and pass on Megatron's.
And where the heck is that Ratbat figure?
We need a US release ASAP!
Kantus Prime
I'd rather get this over Megatron. Cool either way.

Crap forgot about the autobot repaints. Well that just made things harder. I have the minicon, but not those cyberjets.
Deco wise I'm kind of leaning more towards Air Raid in his universe colors. Air Raid(2004) – http://www.tfu.info/ or maybe even X-Gunner from the Robot Masters line. X-Gunner(2004) – http://www.tfu.info/ Just to keep in the spirits of bomber with fighter like the original G2 version.

I thought of this. In-fiction there's no way Dreadwing also is made of Ore-13 and has integrated space bridges etc. Either Shockwave copied the design and transformation after Dreadwing (who presumably deliberately mimicked an Earth bomber at SOME point) or Dreadwing was so impressed by the new Megatron that he had himself rebuilt into something similar.
Soundwinder
That'd take a full-on redeco… I'm lazy and just thinking about repurposing figures.
MrSoundmeister
ey' what bout sunspot? Sunspot – Transformers Wiki
Soundwinder
Skyburst – Transformers Wiki or the Jetmaster redeco seem like viable options, with a set of Reprolabels.
Or Cyberjet Air Raid. Air Raid (1995) – Autobot Warrior – http://www.tfu.info The whole pairing the B2-esque jet with the semi F-117 works really well.
NemiMonkey
Never said anyone had to use him, Just said he was going to be used as the little buddy for my Dreadwing.
Although thinking about maybe I'll try and track down one of the cyberjets instead. Hmmm
CelticMutt
I might could see Orion getting retooled as Ratchet or Ironhide. And I dearly hope that Thundercracker has new guns instead of the ones one the cover/FoC Starscream's. VARIETY.
And I agree with ZacWilliams about Arcee. Everyone should!
Yggdrasil
I don't think it's supposed to be the "ultra badass" upgrade we originaly though it was. It was more of a "Shockwave using all the shit he could find on a rock in space trying to rebuild Megatron into something that functions".
Max Rawhide
Hey, wasn't this Megatron design meant to be some super awesome superupgrade and wasn't megatron thus upgrading himself into this a completely new development in TF millenia (according to the comics).
Then why is there another one exactly like him, just different colors….?
Smasher
I think they forget only when thinking about Blackout and Grindor.
Aeronnz
Eh, I could see it happening.
Transfotaku
Ten years? Try since 1984 when the line first began! Or does everyone forget Prowl, Bluestreak, Laserbeak, Buzzsaw, Ratchet, Ironhide, Starscream and his clones, and so on?
TOO Little of a 'little buddy'.
Yeah, they might as well do Chromedome and Brainstorm and Fort Max and the Protectobots and the other Dinobots -and every other TF of importance that didn't show up only to die in a single story to propel the plot of that story-.
People that matter.

I totally see the appeal for people who want want the mold as another character buuuut I'm still getting both, if both come out. I like United Megatron and both Generations Megatrons but none of them are really quite perfect. Neither is this one but I really like the alt mode and the nifty things this body can do.
Dinobot Nuva
Even though I got the NEST repaint set for this guy, and despite the fact that I'd really rather him be a triple changer, I still am totally all about this haha. Dreadwing/Smokescreen were my Decepticons as a chiljun, so mannyyyy missiles! Besides, I liked the design, but really didn't need/want -another- Megatron.
Emperor Zarak
I'd like to have this mold as Dreadwing
BScorpinok75
Is it a guarantee that the redecoes/molds of all the Spotlight figures would indeed be Spotlight figures? Any way glad the chose Dreadwing as now I have a reason to grab the mold. Didn't really want another Megatron and was thinking about a repurposing just so I could have it.
