We’re back with another gallery of the Robots in Disguise Warrior class figures, belatedly finishing up our photos of wave 1! Here for your enjoyment is Grimlock!
Grimlock is a Dinobot, so he transforms into a tyrannosaur, just like the original Grimlock. The transformation is pretty neatly executed though the dino arms just sort of hang off the back. The way the design is done gives Grimlock some size and presence. In the show, he’s a bruiser who thinks with his fists, and the toy gives him an appropriately bulky robot mode. That said, Grimlock lacks an accessory for some reason, and his articulation is a little restricted.
We then come on to the two biggest flaws on this figure. The lesser of the two is that this Grimlock is actually quite a small toy. I’m not normally a stickler for scale, but to have the character who is “the big guy” on the show come out smaller than Bumblebee or Strongarm is a little jarring. Second are the elbow joints. They use a weird pseudo-ratchet with a little plastic block pushing against teeth in the arm. The plastic on the forearms is thin, though, and if the block gets caught the wrong way on the teeth, it will tear right through the forearms. It’s a really bad design choice, one I’ve personally experienced as you’re actually looking at my second Grimlock in this gallery – my first broke within about a week of opening him.
Owing to all the flaws, I have a hard time recommending this one. It’s a pity because it is a decent looking design, and would otherwise be okay, were it not just for those elbows. Check out the gallery to see this toy and decide if the looks make up for the noted flaws.

I hope so too. Though I'm holding out hope for a Voyager Grimlock down the line.
Can you post a tutorial of what you need to do?
OCProwl
I hope Hasbro makes a running change to this elbow design flaw. I'd like to pick this guy up, he looks cool to me, but not if he's going to break.

I've heard the 3 step is poop compared to the Warrior. All the Warrior needs is a small bit of sanding and you're good.

Thanks for the heads up folks.
I had been wanting to order the Warrior class for a bit but after hearing about the small size and fragility, I will probably end up with the 3Step.

Sheesh, it's almost like I'm the only person that has a Grimlock without broken arms or something.

Fake pictures. Where is the broken right arm?!?!?
Seriously though it's a decent figure, 'hardly dollar store garbage' (with an excellent hatch for Lego minifigures) but the design of those elbow ratchets is shocking.
PredaConvoy
He has a great transformation, and if he were upscaled the plastic would be thicker and less fragile. Damn you Hasbro for not making a tiny one step and decent Voyager instead. He makes me want to buy a three step and an old TFA Grimly and frankenstein me a decent hybrid.. But that's more custom than I can handle. Cheetimus…?

This guy broke on me within minutes of opening him up. The ball joint on the left arm is on VERY thin plastic that ripped on me immediately.

I have that same exploding part too! I liked the way the figure looks that I bought another one (still in package). To "fix" the loose arm I basically dipped that arm into future floor polish and now it's stiff. I also pose Grimlock with the puny dino arms as his real arms and the big bruiser arms as "exo-suit" attachment arms on his shoulder. It's great!
DutyBeforeAll
One of the Elbow joints was already messed up before I even got it out of the package.
I actually like the look but the design kills it for me, and I'm not shelling out another 15 Dollars for another one.
My advise is look in the package before you buy him and really check out the elbow joints, if one looks messed up don't buy it.

Glad you like it! That was the exact vibe I was going for when I decided to do that particular shot – it's also what inspired me to use FoC Grimlock (well, that, and he was nearest)

That photo of RID2 Grimlock with his G1 and RID1 counterparts, gives off a "family photo" vibe. It's like he's the offspring of them both designwise I love it.
All in all, I think Grimlock has a fairly good design. His dino arms are a little awkward since they tend to stick out of his robot mode, and I think he deserves to smile since he's not really a grim character. But otherwise he looks great.

This is the first I'm hearing how fragile the figure is. Damn I was kind of looking forward to picking up this guy.
Maybe next year we'll get Voyager RID figures?
Chaos Incarnate
I touched my best friend's Grimlock, like, LITERALLY JUST A TOUCH, and the arm broke. There has to have been a better way to do that.
Sol Fury
I can snap a quick phone pic later on – it is pretty dreadful, zero tension in the arm joint and the lower arm is torn right open. I've seen pics from others who have stress marks on the part or even have had it to them, so I do not think it's just that I was phenomenally unlucky.
EDIT: added pics
Saurocon
Gah! Should've read that more carefully–no wonder I'm not recognizing damage! What did the first one look like? Any pics of that possible?
Ultrawave
I think he's saying it breaks so bad that there is no functionality left.
Saurocon
I'm not recognizing the damage you mentioned, Sol Fury. Did you do some repair work or clean up the break at all? Does the breakage affect functionality?

Kinda sucks this line does not have a Voyager class. Considering we will have all these bots showing up as early as the first few episodes it is disappointing that we can't have a decent scale for them. Are we going to really have a tiny Underbite that looks like Steeljaw's pet dog?

Wimpy looking Grimlock, AOE is way more intimidating.
