A pair of new Transformers Rescue Bots toys have begun appearing at US retail. These are the duo of Optimus Prime and Bumblebee as dinosaurs! Optimus Prime is now a T-Rex, while Bumblebee is a raptor!
Both of these Rescue Bots are retailing for $11.49, making this a smaller “basic” release of Optimus Primal compared to the larger $35 one previously released. A big thanks to TFW2005 member Acid Wing for letting us know these have arrived in stores such as the Brooklyn Bay Parkway TRU.

I was really excited to get the larger one, but seeing him in the store, he's a little too large for comfort. If I see this smaller one I'll get him for sure!

Having had both (I returned the larger one), they are basically the same toy. The only difference is really the size, the rotating drill, auto-transformation back to robot and added electronics.
The small one is the better toy.

That is exactly what happened to ours.
That's not an easy task to relay to a 3 year old.
I may have to contact customer service, but I don't think I'll be returning it to the store since it's 40 miles from here & not worth the drive time for a $4-$5 toy.
It's really too bad, because we have a bunch of rescue bots toys & I have been really impressed with the durability of all the toys except this one. The little Blades that we got the same day is great. His original Bumblebee & Heatwave are starting to show some wear too, but they have been played with HARD! All of his other rescuebots are in great shape though considering the wear that they have gone through. I won't let one toy ruin my opinion of what has otherwise been a great line.

We have had the larger Optimus Primal for a couple of weeks now. Had to return our first one…the electronics stopped working and the Dino mode stopped aligning properly.

I've had the same issue – bought and returned 3 times so far. I keep rebuying him though because my daughter loves it.
As far as I can tell, breaking it occurs when you try to convert from robot to dino mode. If you push the hind legs up FIRST, you can easily push them past the internal spring mechanism, thus breaking it. The effect is that when you try to convert from dino to robot again, the hind legs won't come down to form Heatwave's lower half – leaving you with a sort of dino-centaur. Also, when broken the "chomp" gimmick doesn't work anymore.
If you don't want to break it, convert in exactly the opposite way as from dino to robot. That is, first push up the tail, then fold the arms up/together to form the dino head, which will bring up the hind legs automatically.
I'm really surprised this made it past QC because it is so easy to break simply by transforming him in the wrong step-order, something that five minutes in the hands of a toddler would have revealed.

These are adorable and awesome.

Oh God! That Bumblebee is so cute!

How is Heatwave breaking exactly?
tfwmongrel
Any comparison of what the small vs large Optimus do or look like? Anything to make the bigger one worth more money, besides big-ness?
Shockwave 75
I picked up the Blades and Heatwave a couple weeks back, but I have held off giving them to my son because A) I don't think they'd stand up to a 3 year old's beating, and B) I kinda like them!

Oh cool. I dig the Optimus Primal T-Rex though Bumblebee as a raptor I'm not really feeling.
I'm a little miffed that the first Bumblebee figure that turns in to a beast isn't well a Bumblebee.

I brought the Heatwave issue up with Hasbro at their booth at Botcon. The designer of the original Rescue Bots is now on the main line, but he was very concerned that there is a consistency with Heatwaves breaking (my son went through 2). He suggested calling customer service for Hasbro, so they know there is a problem. In the mean time he took some notes on what was happening with the toy as I brought it with me to specifically show them and he'll be taking that info back to Hasbro.
I was really impressed with the concern he had about the product and that reviews have been really low because of the breakage. He spent several minutes looking the figure over testing it, and taking notes.

Cool! I wish tho they'd think about making generations versions of these guys…
Acid Wing
You and OCProwl are right. I just checked, the box has him named as Optimus Prime, not Primal. Though, I'll just call him Optimus Rex unofficially.
Dover345
YAY! My 3 year old is super excited for the T-Rex Optimus. We got him the little Blades & Heatwave a month or two ago. Unfortunately, Heatwave broke after only an hour or two. Otherwise, we have really enjoyed the Rescuebots toys & it's a great way for us to play Transformers together. He also really likes the Switch N Go Dinos we have got him. Neat little toys all around.

These are from the Rescan series, Wave 02:
Transformers Rescue Bots Rescan Series 02 – Set of 2 (Optimus Prime & Bumblebee) – Transformers 2010 – 2014 Transformers Playskool Rescue Bots
Moroni Prime
The front page listed this as Optimus PRIMAL. Is that correct? I can't tell from the glare on the image.

so cute I remember how much my son loved his go-bots
Acid Wing
Yes, they're larger than the currently released Dinobots, Heatwave and Blades.
edicius
So I gather these guys are larger than the other dinos that have been released?
