HASBRO DONATES TRUCKLOAD OF TOYS AND GAMES TO HURRICANE CHARLEY DISASTER RELIEF EFFORTS

PAWTUCKET, R.I., AUGUST 24, 2004 – Hasbro announced today that it is donating a truckload of toys and games to benefit children affected by Hurricane Charley.

Toy and game donations will be distributed to American Red Cross emergency shelters primarily in the Punta Gorda area, one of the hardest hit regions in Florida. Preliminary damage assessments by the Red Cross indicate that at least 31,114 homes were destroyed or suffered major damage as a result of the storm making them uninhabitable and displacing thousands of families with children. Donations also will reach victims through emergency aid stations and other outreach efforts set up by the Red Cross.



“We have learned over the last several years that the use of toys following a disaster can be comforting and raise children’s hopes,� said Susan Hamilton, Disaster Mental Health Services for the American Red Cross. “We are so grateful to Hasbro for their quick response and their generosity.�



“Our hearts go out to all those whose lives were impacted by the devastation that Hurricane Charley caused,� said Karen Davis, vice president of community relations for Hasbro. “We provided toys that we hope would bring comfort to the children and games to help those still in shelters pass the time. We especially want to thank the Red Cross for their efforts in helping the thousands who were affected by this disaster. �
